To not feel safe in changing rooms anymore?

Another story about an inappropriate man in a woman's changing room - is this what we are going to see more of in the UK now too? Having been both flashed and sexually assaulted in a public place, this chills me to the bone. Men who get a thrill out of exposing themselves to women will use any opportunity to do so. To think that they won't abuse women's spaces is to be wilfully and dangerously naive.

YANBU - Not unreasonable to think that flashing is flashing regardless of self ID and magical feelings.

YABU - Be kind to men etc etc

YANBU. I had a man open the curtain on me in Primark a few weeks ago.

Luckily I had just got fully dressed.

He apologised and I think it was a mistake, but it’s made me apprehensively about changing rooms now.

How the fuck is that a mistake. You don't open the curtains.

Baldieheid · 15/01/2023 08:41

YANBU

Nobody gives a stuff about women and kids, or the decent men who don't want this. We all need to buy clothes at times, but I don't try them on any more in store. It's crap.

Right. Curtain closed = occupied.

WhoWants2Know · 15/01/2023 13:20

I just don't use changing rooms anymore.

Maybe he thought it was his wife.....but that's me being generous. You'd still say outside' which cubicle are you in, Sue?' surely.

Hillcrest2022 · 15/01/2023 13:34

Just the fact that we are expected to accept the idea of a 'woman's penis'....

mistahclarke · 15/01/2023 13:36

I'm a bloke and I was walking in the centre of Brighton the other week and an unkempt old guy was literally walking with his todger out in the parade of shops (it's the Laines, so wasn't busy, more of shops in an alley).

I was a bit too shocked to say anything to be honest. After a minute it sunk in that I could have had my 7 year old daughter with me and I went back the way I came and couldn't see him.

I honestly don't know what is wrong with some people.

YANBU but you forgot to enable voting.

YANBU but you didn’t enable voting!

I’ve stopped using changerooms.

I either buy online or buy one of each of two sizes and expect to have to take items back.

Imthegingerbreadwoman · 15/01/2023 13:43

Unfortunately it's only going to get worse. It's not going to go backwards but forwards in a bad way! You can't say anything otherwise it's about 10 different types of shamin🤨 I'm quite worried for our kids futures. I might sound dramatic but having daughters, I worry about them. I'm only 30 and things where different when I was a teen. Definiltey more open minded then but things seem to have taken a strange turn.

That's going to be an unpopular opinion and I will probably be called all sorts. But I don't care any more. I'm happy for others to be whoever or whatever they are but there's a limit when women's spaces are effectively eroded and people walk about with nothing on.

MattDamon · 15/01/2023 13:44

It's costing the shops more because I have a load of sizes delivered to my house so I can try on and return the ones that don't fit with free return shipping.

SidewaysOtter · 15/01/2023 13:49

YANBU. All the time that certain rights can be used as a front for men with the intention of harming women or indulging their sexual desires, women are not safe in changing rooms.

iklboo · 15/01/2023 13:53

Anyone can type four letters. Elaborate exactly why women have to 'be kind to men' and accept men into our (previously) safe spaces, exhibiting their genitals.

ChaToilLeam · 15/01/2023 13:55

YANBU. It’s a pervert’s paradise now.

SweetPetrichor · 15/01/2023 14:02

Nobody should be subjected to naked people in changing rooms, regardless of their gender. If this had been a naked woman I still think that is not appropriate around children.

Hillcrest2022 · 15/01/2023 14:02

@Limesodas what is your position? All you all for free flying penis's (or is the plural peni?) in spaces where women are undressing and vulnerable?

You clearly see nothing wrong with the intimidation and bullying of women so I'd love to hear you try to justify it

There was a recent Twitter post about a man dressed as a woman, exposing himself in House of Fraser, someone he was with took the photos! I mean wtf!

One of the images was in the lingerie department!

The Twitter post has been shared to Notts police. Hopefully he’ll be done of exposure!

I, like most of the population couldn’t give a flying fuck who is using a changing room.

Thats my position. Many on here regularly forget their anti trans views are a minority one.

Not all women feel vulnerable in a changing room, I’m used to mixed sex changing rooms and see this as a lot of hysteria

OneFrenchEgg · 15/01/2023 14:11

I feel like a Luddite but I find it kind of mad we are in a position where someone can be a man or a woman through choice. And I don't see how being sceptical about trans relates to homophobia? Which I know is the thing that gets said. Like anti trans and anti-gay are the same.

YANBU - the female anatomy does not include a penis, therefore anyone with one has no place in a female only area.
