Did anyone buy into the Popsy dress hype during covid.

There was a new dress release every Friday at 12:00. Fans of the dress would eagerly wait for noon and then there would be loads of whinging by people who didnt get lucky because the dresses had sold out instantly. Many people complained that the dress was in their checkout basket but got taken out/

The facebook page was fierce. Anyone that dared critise the quality of the fabric was instantly shut down.
Every week it was virtually the same two dress styles but in different fabrics.
I'd forgotten about it until my friend called around last night seeing if I wanted one of her old dresses.

No.

notacooldad · 10/12/2022 11:18

KangarooKenny
During covid it became a bit of fascination for me.
There was only so many times I could walk around the block and watch nbox sets to be entertained. This was entertainment in real time for me!
(sad but true)

Our lockdown was so harsh that we could only order food online. Eventually, they allowed us to order woolly jerseys as an essential item! It was an exciting moment. You were only allowed out to your nearest supermarket to buy food or seek medical assistance. Those are really ugly dresses though. Our merino wool jerseys were more attractive than that.

It's still a thing, have several friends who live in popsys. I've tried them and they are too pricey to me for the fabric used which I find bobbles easily. However i think that they do size 6-22 and promote body positivity is good. They still do the weekly releases too.

CheesyCrumpet · 11/01/2023 05:27

I've never heard of them. Are they like Lipsy etc?

SavoirFlair · 11/01/2023 06:02

The name alone makes my teeth grind. The lengthy list of house rules made me realise what pond life probably lurks below the surface of the “closed group”.

no thanks. Hype doesn’t do it for me.

MrsMikeHeck · 11/01/2023 06:05

95% polyester Confused sweaty!

Applecottagetree · 11/01/2023 06:09

They look like they would be worn with Irregular Choice shoes.

RicStar · 11/01/2023 06:13

They are simple dresses made in the UK by a small family company, with a good eye for social media / building a following. They are not going to be everyone's style / taste. I have a few dresses for work, I like the pockets and some of the styles. I like that they are made (at least sewn) in the UK, under fair conditions. I don't understand what there is to moan about really.

autumnboys · 11/01/2023 06:15

Only yesterday, a colleague was telling me about this Friday’s releases.

I have one of their dresses, it’s okay. I have only worn it a couple of times though.

Tamarindtree · 11/01/2023 06:20

Never heard of them but just looked at Popsy dress on google images and a load of hideous, cheap looking, dreadfully patterned, frumpy dresses appeared.

They look like they would be worn by a Lefty Geography teacher.

hoppityscotch · 11/01/2023 06:25

I don't remember this being a thing but if it gave some people joy during lockdown that can only be a good thing

GrammarTeacher · 11/01/2023 06:37

What a mean thread! The dresses are quite popular amongst teachers, they are a sensible length, have pockets and don't need ironing.
The release day hype thing is irritating but not really a big deal when I compare it to what Maxomorra release days used to be like!
They have 'sensible' prints, plain dresses and quirky. Some are totally not me and I ignore them.
The release day thing is how they built their business though. It built a buzz and it works. It does no one any harm.
The FB groups are actually quite supportive.
You'll see far, far worse on here!

No. COVID did not affect my eyesight, fortunately.

You beat me to it 😂

Quordle · 11/01/2023 06:44

I have a couple as a primary teacher. The children love them! I wouldn't wear them in most other jobs. They've also very practical. The sizing is big though and the material quality isn't great for the price, but I think we're probably used to very underpriced clothing. Their resale price surprises me though - some people go seen obsessed!

Doidontimmm · 11/01/2023 06:48

I actually like them!

olympicsrock · 11/01/2023 06:52

I’ve just had a look. I like the styles and patterns. Haven’t tried the fabrics..
Good on them for being proactive with social media presence.

Coffeecreme · 11/01/2023 06:55

look like they would be worn by a psychologist

ForfuckssakeEXHstopbeingatwat · 11/01/2023 07:02

I agree with a pp that this is a mean spirited, sneery thread. I don't own one but have similar styles from fatface etc. If you don't like them fine, just say they're not for you but all the comments about the kind of person that wears them is mn bitchiness at it's finest 😟 FWIW whenever I wear my one pair of IC shoes, everyone loves them. If there were website antics over the dresses, then yes, that's a bit bonkers but the dresses themselves are personal choice.

LaurieFairyCake · 11/01/2023 07:05

I've just had a look - there's 243 dresses!

How can they possibly be sewn in the UK when they're about £30 each Confused

TheBestUsernamesAreGone · 11/01/2023 07:06

I have some. I work in a school. As PP say I like that they're made in Britain, have pockets and are affordable.
Children like my dinosaur one best followed by the cat one.
I do wish the synthetic fabric was better though. I choose which days to wear them as weather too hot or too cold doesn't work for me.

LaurieFairyCake · 11/01/2023 07:08

There are so many perfect for teaching!

Dinosaur/pencils/trumpets for a music teacher - they're great !
