Did anyone buy into the Popsy dress hype during covid.

There was a new dress release every Friday at 12:00. Fans of the dress would eagerly wait for noon and then there would be loads of whinging by people who didnt get lucky because the dresses had sold out instantly. Many people complained that the dress was in their checkout basket but got taken out/

The facebook page was fierce. Anyone that dared critise the quality of the fabric was instantly shut down.
Every week it was virtually the same two dress styles but in different fabrics.
I'd forgotten about it until my friend called around last night seeing if I wanted one of her old dresses.

The group is bonkers. This didn't happen, did it?

I think I’m going to boke.

I like some of them, I wear the plainer ones or the floral/ simple patterns. You can’t see up them, down them (as long as you check the style) or through them. They have pockets and can be dressed up with a blazer or down with a cardigan. But, yes, I am a left wing teacher- and happy to be described as such.
The Facebook groups don’t tear other women apart for clothing choices or living on more than one meal a day, they offer support to people with daily issues. The company seems to have better values than many others. I can live with a few dinosaur print dresses on the website in exchange for that.

I agree with a pp that this is a mean spirited, sneery thread. I don't own one but have similar styles from fatface etc. If you don't like them fine, just say they're not for you but all the comments about the kind of person that wears them is mn bitchiness at it's finest 😟 FWIW whenever I wear my one pair of IC shoes, everyone loves them. If there were website antics over the dresses, then yes, that's a bit bonkers but the dresses themselves are personal choice.

Agree.

Mn is also always sneery about polyester - the amount of it on the high street suggests most people are happy with it though..

Coffeecreme · 11/01/2023 07:16

i wouldnt wear polyester by choice
i went off M & S when so much of its stuff was polyester.

Coffeecreme · 11/01/2023 07:18

i wouldnt call myself sneery,
polyester makes people sweat - not appealing
it also shrinks in the wash.

They are cheap. And seem practical. Some of them look a bit Sea Salty to my eye. That said I wouldn't wear them. They're just not me. But I don't understand the hate

Coffeecreme · 11/01/2023 07:22

i think the hate is towards the marketing

It wasnt meant to be about the dresses ot the company but the hype that went on amongst the fans of the dressess during covid.

People lost their minds when new patterns were being released each week at 12 oclock on Frida and by a few minutes after 12 many styles has sold out. Their were complaints on fb that some had the dress in their " shipping bag" but didnt check out quick enough and it was taken out.
It happened to me twice and I gave up after that.
I was wondering if it was still 'a thing'

I’m a lefty teacher type and I have a couple. They are practical for work and have pockets. Can’t imagine Friday dress drama though. That totally passed me by.

Tamarindtree · 11/01/2023 06:21

They look like they would be worn by a Lefty Geography teacher.

Not sure if that's an insult tbh

Aprilx · 11/01/2023 07:28

I have a couple of dresses, purchased for a Disney World holiday, I wouldn’t wear them anywhere else. I didn’t know anything about a Friday new release or a Facebook group.

Why would you buy dresses just for a Disney holiday? Feels so wasteful!

thefamous5 · 11/01/2023 07:31

They've always released the dresses at 12 noon on a Friday, not just a thing through covid.

CremeEggsForBreakfast · 11/01/2023 07:31

I have quite a few but never bought into the hype. (Not limited to Lockdown. Still happens every week and particularly around special releases eg Christmas/Halloween)

I'm going off them a bit now as the FB group is slowly gaining more and more trans women who have people fawning all over them and telling them how beautiful they are and how jealous they are of their legs.

NoNewsIsGoodNews · 11/01/2023 07:33

Never heard of these. They are not my taste and seem super-frumpy. But that’s ok.

I liked cold-shoulder tops at the time. I think they suited me. I know many people truly hate them! Criticising them online etc. I don’t care. Not even a bit. That’s how fashion tastes work. It’s not personal.

Polyester and acrylic dresses for a Disney holiday? Ok

Duttercup · 11/01/2023 07:34

MN can be such a joyless place.

I will buy clothes for my holiday if I like, I didn’t realise this was an unusual thing to do. Confused

Yes I thought somebody would say that. But they are pretty loose fitting and I have never felt hot in them. I don’t like being hot, so trust me if that were an issue, I wouldn’t wear them.

Everyone went a bit bonkers in lockdown!

Same here. I find it so tedious when posters proclaim this stuff - not everyone is really sweaty

LivingDeadGirlUK · 11/01/2023 07:44

Its admittedly been a while since I looked but they did that sneaky thing of saying 'Jersey' fabric and it took several clicks to see it was actually polyester and not a cotton (which I think most people associate with the word Jersey). I cant wear polyester dresses if they have sleeves so its a no from me.

SpaceBunInstaHun · 11/01/2023 07:48

I'd never heard of them before, they're fun. Like a more affordable modcloth or more practical lindybop print. Not my aesthetic but I'd definitely branch out to some of their dresses if I fancied being a bit braver with my look. Plus, pockets.
