Supposed to be going out for dinner with friends tomorrow and I really don’t want to go. I need an excuse …

Is it the friends or the leaving the house in the cold?

Ijustdontwantto · 23/11/2022 14:22

Both!

are they your friends or more his, if there is a 'his' i often swerve husbands well one in particular now
any illness that can suddenly flare up for you !!!!

RampantIvy · 23/11/2022 14:24

What is the real reason for not wanting to go?

Ijustdontwantto · 23/11/2022 14:25

It’s just women - no husbands.

Real reason - I don’t like going out, feel self conscious. Also while I like them individually as a group I don’t always enjoy it.

Come down with a cold 🥶 🤧 😩

BMW6 · 23/11/2022 14:27

Positive covid test 😉

Mummieslncorporated · 23/11/2022 14:28

A few months ago this was so easy. 'not feeling quite right, waiting for a COVID test to arrive'.

Could you not turn up, and claim you thought it was on Friday or next week?

Dox9 · 23/11/2022 14:28

"Sorry can't make dinner tomorrow"

Positive covid test 😉

This

carefulcalculator · 23/11/2022 14:30

I'd go for vague apology today - just 'really sorry but something has cropped up that I need to help someone with' - it is not like letting down one person who has no other option, the group can still go ahead.

Mummieslncorporated · 23/11/2022 14:31

Personally I wouldn't go for positive COVID test for two reasons.

  1. people are very likely to say 'oh we have all had it, you don't need to isolate any more, come anyway'
  2. if you pretend to be isolating for one night then go to work etc - it looks odd.
OriginalUsername2 · 23/11/2022 14:31

Not worth going then! Have a cosy one.

“Sorry, I’m just not feeling it tonight” is sufficient for reasonable people but if you don’t want to be talked round and have to fib: migraine, covid, poorly DP?

FatimaHatima · 23/11/2022 14:32

Don't lie. If you lie and make an excuse they will ask you again, and it seems clear you would let them down again.
You just don't want to go out with them, so don't, and say so. They're not really your friends if you don't like seeing them and spending time with them.

Hyperion100 · 23/11/2022 14:32

Got the squits

Santagiveyoursackawash · 23/11/2022 14:33

Yabu not to appreciate more you have friends!!
Imagine if they all gave feeble excuses?
Make the effort op.

I’m crap in groups too. I don’t do them anymore! One to one meet-ups only.

Oopsiedaisyy · 23/11/2022 15:01

Will it be nice food? I'm an introvert so i understand the desire to hibernate, but good food is a lure...

Fluffygreenslippers · 23/11/2022 15:03

Tell them you have the shits

Mushroo · 23/11/2022 15:05

Don’t lie - it’s always so obvious and there’s no need.

‘Hi all - just to let you know I can’t make dinner tomorrow. Sorry and have fun!’

CrystalCoco · 23/11/2022 15:05

Another vote for 'the runs', can't really argue with that and no further explanation needed 💩💩💩

Doowop1919 · 23/11/2022 15:20

Why arrange it in the first place if you don't like these things? (I know this sounds rude, but I'm genuinely curious)

I would just say you've had a long week and you're shattered / not up for going out anymore.

tulips27 · 23/11/2022 15:22

Sometimes you have to make yourself go! We can't all just hibernate under a throw with a hot chocolate till March 😃

Ijustdontwantto · 23/11/2022 15:22

It was arranged a few weeks ago, we all try to meet up once every few months. I didn’t massively enjoy the last one though.
