To not find my wealthy retired dad's " joke" funny?

I work nhs shifts. I am really chuffed not to be working over Christmas but when I told my dad he replied " neither are we!" He hasn't worked for 10 years. I wouldn't mind so much if I wasn't struggling with the cost of living etc.

Back story is that he's always banging on about not having to work.

He's just joking & I think when I no longer have to work I'll be delighted.

Why are you giving this headspace its just a crappy dad joke, chuckle and move on. Him making the joke or not makes no difference to the cost of living, its harmless.

Typical joke for a man of his age. Most men think they are stand up comedians. A groan or weak smile is all that is needed.

And surely he did his share of having to work before retirement.

Is the clue that you’re financially struggling and he’s Wealthy, at least in your eyes. Did he work at your age?

Is it because you were talking about YOUR life, and he immediately turned it round to THEIR life. (I have this with another relative - not my Dad). Every single conversation....
