Not to like the Globe Theatre calling me a bitch?

OK, not to my face. But following the non-binary Joan of Arc play they’ve shared a ‘terfs stop being transphobic challenge’ referring to anyone who doesn’t believe in gender identity as a bitch.

It’s a shame. I’ve been to some amazing plays at the Globe. But they’ve made their position on feminists pretty clear, so I won’t be going back.

I've never got round to going. This is doing nothing to encourage me to put that right. Also, obviously I haven't seen it or read the script, but a nonbinary Joan of Arc? WTF? Where is there the slightest documentary evidence that Joan struggled to accept that she was a woman?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/10/2022 21:18

Here's the poem, btw. Hope it's legible.

It sounds to me like the highly sexist premise that if a vagina owner didn’t conform to the restrictive sex role stereotypes of the time, they can’t have been a woman.

It's already been deleted, so publicity stunt I guess.

JunebuginDecember · 05/10/2022 21:39

It's only offensive if you're the thing they're talking about. If you're truly not transphobic or trans-exclusionary then surely you wouldn't take offense...

Being FOR womens rights does not mean AGAINST trans rights. Unless the two rights clash but nobody has ever said they clash ...🤔

I’m fact, haven’t we been told there is no clash of rights, and letting males into female spaces is really good for women in vague, undefined ways no one can explain….

There's only so much foaming at the mouth you can do in one thread, so two is better 😂😂😂

Knittingmonster · 05/10/2022 21:52

That is a very shit poem.

CraigDavid · 05/10/2022 21:55

Jesus that's a shit poem.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 05/10/2022 21:59

How incredibly childish.

IrisVersicolor · 05/10/2022 21:59

Can’t spell sacrilegious.

SidewaysOtter · 05/10/2022 22:01

And that’s what happens when you hand your social media accounts over to the intern who a) generally inhabits an online fantasy world of pastel animé where no-one must ever feel unsafe and b) thinks this is an appropriate platform for their personal views.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 05/10/2022 22:22

I'm utterly delighted to be called an audacious bitch. It means I'm pissing the right people off, by the sheer fact of my existence.

Do we think The Globe will do a 'sorry if this caused offence' tweet & then turn replies off?

belleager · 05/10/2022 22:23

That is like a greeting card "poem" gone toxic.

Imagine thinking Shakespeare's theatre is the place for such sanctimonious tribalism. Worrying .

TheClitterati · 05/10/2022 22:24

wow The Globe really don't want to welcome women into that space do they?

OK - I won't be back, neither will my daughters.
I'm so over this rubbish.

KatMcBundleFace · 05/10/2022 22:27

I wish Arts Council funding wasn't going towards abusive crap like that.

Draughtycatflapreturns · 05/10/2022 22:27

They don’t like it up em.

Oh, hell no, Juno.

Do you tell black people that racial slurs are totally OK, because only a n+++++ would mind being called that? Do you tell Jewish people that k+++ is OK, and Muslims that r+++++ is fine - if you weren't one you wouldn't mind, right? What about gay people - no harm in f+++++ if you're not one, right? Or disabled people - hey, only those OTHER disabled people are c+++s right? No harm done? Everybody's "that thing", right - except for people who behave exactly how you want?

Or are you JUST a misogynist, Juno, and so you don't mind women being called a rape apologist and rape-normalising slur like TERF?

BluesDad · 05/10/2022 22:48

That is not a poem by any stretch of the imagination. I should know I’ve written lots of them and used to win poetry competitions as a child before adulthood with is concomitant stresses, responsibilities and futilities killed my Mojo and crushed my creativity.
What that diatribe is is the rantings of a very unwell unbalanced mind like most of the rantings of those who seek to deny women their private safe spaces and humans their biology so I the best thing to do is to pay it no heed then it will eventually go back to what it came from which is nothing at all.

ChandlersDad · 05/10/2022 22:55

Oh God, that poem 🤣
slightly surprised it wasn’t written by Adrian Mole
