To feel sad it's now getting dark early

Just another reminder that we are losing our Summer with the nights now drawing in?
Why does it have to fly by so fast?

Nights always seem longer when it's dark.

I hear you. I hate the dark evenings and always feel a sense of sadness at this time of year.

KassandraOfSparta · 02/09/2022 21:09

YANBU. But expect this thread to soon full up with people wittering on about snuggling under blankies on the sofa and "hot choc".

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 02/09/2022 21:09

I know.

I detest cold weather. It messes with my head.

And people start harping on about Christmas which makes me feel uncomfortable and claustrophobic.

I love spring and summer.

Anon50000 · 02/09/2022 21:10

The chunky jumper and boots lot will be along shortly.

KnickerlessParsons · 02/09/2022 21:11

I don't mind cold weather but I hate the long nights and the dampness.

UrsulaPandress · 02/09/2022 21:12

I do love seasons but the dark nights seem to have rushed in this year.

I’m sure when I was a lass August/September days were much longer.

So what? People don't have to like the same things.

I actually can't wait for summer to be over.

There, I said it.

Knittynanna · 02/09/2022 21:14

I love the changing seasons and finding ways to mark them, but this year I am worried more than ever about what the cold months will bring, especially when I see how many people are on the street and how many are really struggling for money already. The dark closing in as we head into a winter of discontent is enough to put me right off my pumpkin spiced consumables and chunky knitted clothes.

byzeus · 02/09/2022 21:14

I feel you. I start feeling a bit blue as soon as we reach the solstice in June. Strangely find the winter one more hopeful - when we have “turned the year”!

You and a million other mumsnetters. Your blanket is calling.

00100001 · 02/09/2022 21:15

I can't wait to wear my chunky jumper and boots and then get home and have a snuggle under a blankie on the sofa with a hot choc and looking forward to Christmas.

Floydthebarber · 02/09/2022 21:15

Yanbu. I love Autumn and cold weather but since having dc I've started to love the summer more, especially being able to give them dinner in the garden or letting them play until bedtime. I also loved being able to come down after putting them to bed and sitting in the garden myself!

Blankets and hot chocolate are losing their appeal as they will most likely be how I keep warm rather than a lovely cosy treat.

whatsthestory123 · 02/09/2022 21:15

yep i cant believe how quick over the last 2 weeks how dark its gone

Mindymomo · 02/09/2022 21:16

It just seems to go from light evenings to dark really quick. We are on a uk holiday in 3 weeks and although we only go out daytime, it’s in the countryside and it’s going to be really dark at night.

Arnaquer · 02/09/2022 21:18

It seems to have come earlier this year. We've had a gorgeous Summer I didn't want it to end. I hate Winter. Getting up in the dark, driving home in the dark. So bloody miserable

chillidoritto · 02/09/2022 21:19

I hear you completely OP! I love the summer so much, and the spring. I can just about cope up until Bonfire night, then it spirals. I suffer from SAD so I actually turn a corner on 21st December.

Anyone who comes on here wanking on about hot chocolate and boots and blankets can fuck off.

TiredButAlive · 02/09/2022 21:19

I love the long light days but detest the heat. They're no longer inseparable it seems. I probably need to move to Iceland for the summer ... but obviously head south for the winter

Hbh17 · 02/09/2022 21:20

I'm not too bothered that it gets cooler, but I hate the lack of light. Which is why December is absolutely the worst month of the year. At least by January the days are pulling out again.

PuppyMonkey · 02/09/2022 21:23

I don’t mind the September darker nights but I know it means the big spiders too and that’s the worst for me.Sad

Big Fear.

MagsR2356 · 02/09/2022 21:24

Me too! I love the light nights and my evenings walks! Sad here too

Anon50000 · 02/09/2022 21:25

'Anyone who comes on here wanking on about hot chocolate and boots and blankets can fuck off'

Amen to that

Me too. Hasn’t summer lasted long enough this year?!

Rosebuud · 02/09/2022 21:28

Im with you. It’s come so fast this year. I’ve just packed away the patio rugs and started putting the outside cushions away at night, they’ve been out for months endlessly . It’s only sept and it feels like autumn is coming now.

DrunkenKoala · 02/09/2022 21:28

I go to bed at 9 and am up at 5 so the darker evenings are easier for me to fall asleep to but I’m missing the lighter mornings and having my morning coffee in the garden.

I hear you. And snuggly jumpers to hide fatness. Like we should all want to hide away because of it.
