To feel sad it's now getting dark early

Just another reminder that we are losing our Summer with the nights now drawing in?
Why does it have to fly by so fast?

Nights always seem longer when it's dark.

I feel dread and the long cold darkonrhs ahead. Always a struggle. Hate losing the light so badly, it weighs on my soul

Same. I can already feel the misery of dark days washing over me.

CruCru · 02/09/2022 23:55

This is quite a weird thread. September is my favourite month - still warm and light enough, a new school year starts.

Those who say they enjoy autumn do not wish misery on those who can’t afford to put the heating on. Similarly those who enjoy summer don’t plot to have all the lawns die.

Saying that you are looking forward to autumn / winter doesn’t bring it on any faster or harder. The seasons change. Some enjoy it, others find it a hardship.

TheOrigRights · 03/09/2022 00:06

I think because it's still so warm it seems odd for the nights to be drawing in.
I am a runner, and normally at this time of year if I'm running in the dark it would be cool enough for long sleeves, but for the past couple of years I've worn t.shirts. This makes wearing my reflective arm bands tricky because they're uncomfortable on bare skin.
It just seems odd to be running in the dark with shorts and t.shirt.

Apart from the stupidly hot days it's been a glorious summer. I love just leaving the house and going for a walk w/o worrying about cardigans and 'practical shoes' (I walk across the fields).

EmeraldShamrock1 · 03/09/2022 00:14

I'm happy with the change.

It's been a long summer stretching myself between two extremely different children.

One with no friends who hides in her room.

The 2nd who wants to be everyone's friend without the social skills to respect or maintain friendship groups without controlling them.

He requires supervision.

I've been a yo.yo for so long.

By the time I'm missing bright night's it'll be Spring.

Sometimes I pop on the autumn lovers threads to try and find something to look forward to since i hate the autumn and winter but always end up leaving after the first page thinking all the posters are twats 😂 Its irrational I know. I blame the lack of sunlight. I so wish I could embrace it.

I actually prefer being cosy of a nighttime with a film and a hot drink a lot better and find Halloween, Bon fire night and Christmas feels the time where as there's no real structure around Summer where I just feel too hot

Grin I saw someone post that they can't wait to start wearing thick tights again and no offence to them but WTF?

Winter V Summer?
Guess it makes a nice change from breast V bottle or SAHM V WoHM Grin

Oh yes! 😅

bloodyplanes · 03/09/2022 00:44

I love this time of year up until Christmas. Its nice during the days and I don't even mind dark evenings. I absolutely detest January and February because its just grey, dreary, dark and freezing cold.

Thank goodness, a calm voice of reason on a thread where a few posters are getting very, um... angry...

OhWelllWhatever · 03/09/2022 00:57

@JaneJeffer Wrong'uns. The lot of them.

katesbushh · 03/09/2022 01:15

Autumn is my favourite season

It does seem to be happening earlier though.

Sunnytwobridges · 03/09/2022 01:17

I actually love it! I’m a night owl. 😊

Same. I can already feel the misery of dark days washing over me.

Are you building this up in your head? It’s literally still light for longer than it’s dark. I would recommend a SAD lamp as well.

allinatizzy · 03/09/2022 01:56

Lots of hostility toward anyone who fares better in the cooler seasons! I don't imagine anyone here wants to see people suffering in the winter to come, but since we can't control the weather anyway, there's no point in pretending we wish it would stay summer longer. I don't! I hate summer and love autumn and winter. Saying so won't increase anyone else's unhappiness, any more than it made me less comfortable in the heat to hear that some people were basking in it.

tobee · 03/09/2022 02:25

People who were going on about how summer is now inseparable from terrible heat so they not remember last summer (in name only)?

Love spring and summer and long light days. The best that can be said for this coming autumn is that a least we had a summer and I'm not waiting for it still! Also I can't remember the last time we had a crisp autumn. And winter is usually warmish and wet and dark. Might be a good thing this year if it's mild.

And Christmas usually means too much spending money 😬

Roselilly36 · 03/09/2022 05:47

Yes I have recently noticed that it’s getting darker earlier too, I don’t like it at all.

itsgettingweird · 03/09/2022 05:52

whatsthestory123 · 02/09/2022 21:15

yep i cant believe how quick over the last 2 weeks how dark its gone

Agree.

It's not sickness much they get darker earlier it's the speed at which the evenings seem shorter over a short space of time.

Ds and I don't get home until 7.30/8 most evenings and when it's lighter we get home before the day already seems over!

itsgettingweird · 03/09/2022 05:54

DrunkenKoala · 02/09/2022 21:28

I go to bed at 9 and am up at 5 so the darker evenings are easier for me to fall asleep to but I’m missing the lighter mornings and having my morning coffee in the garden.

Same here. Except I'm up at 4 and out house at 4.45.

But agree it's easier to fall asleep when it's darker at 9.

I'd quite like it still to be light until 8.30 though Grin

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/09/2022 05:56

i get used to being able to take my dog for a walk at 830 in the evening
but its getting darker earlier and makes me realise that i am losing the sunset walks.

Zippedydoo123 · 03/09/2022 06:11

I find the summer drags on a bit and like somebody said lacks structure. With being post menopausal the heatwave was insufferable. It is a relief the darker evenings are here. I look forward to wearing different clothes and to cos y nights in.

THough our house enjoys l oft insulation and cavity walk insulation plus the double glazing is a year old. So we will be warm and feel fortunate.

WildFlowerBees · 03/09/2022 06:30

I love the darker mornings, I'm an early riser so enjoy a cup of tea with a candle for company before dh wakes up and the world gets noisy.

I'm getting dh a SAD lamp as he struggles with the dark mornings. Is that something that might help you op?
