To feel sad it's now getting dark early

Just another reminder that we are losing our Summer with the nights now drawing in?
Why does it have to fly by so fast?

Nights always seem longer when it's dark.

Because the warmer months usually go on into Oct; to relish the cold months coming faster, and gloat about your schnuggles (wtf even is that) your log fire, your hot chocolate and warm home knowing people can’t afford to heat their homes and eat is so utterly self absorbed

and the fact you can not grasp it and have to ask makes it so much worse. do you not understand the cost of living crisis. The impact on families, and how we should all hope it stays warmer for longer to limit the pain so many will feel?

but hey if you can dp hygee who cares right?

Haha wow! Lots to unpack there.

1 Not gloating (or "screaming" or "shouting" Hmm).
2 Nobody's said "schnuggles" except you and other angry types trying to be funny
3 I don't have a log fire, am indifferent to hot chocolate and definitely don't have a warm home - I barely use the heating as it is, and definitely won't now the prices have gone nutso
4 I'm on a low-to-moderate income and DH might well be losing his job in the next six months
5 So get outta here with all those baseless assumptions, cos...
6 Some of us like the winter and like to find things to enjoy in it, sorry! Would you like everyone to be weeping and self-flagellating? I guess it'd keep us warm!

Cringing. You need to read the thread.

@Fairylightsongs what part of my not putting my heating on post is privileged.

I have done. Why are you cringing (I assume not at your own bizarre histrionics)?

I get really depressed in summer. I hate it. I am very much in the minority and I appreciate that. I adore Winter and all it brings and that’s ok! I won’t apologise for it! My mood goes up and I am much happier. I reckon I have the reverse of SAD disorder. Roll on the dark evenings!

If you enjoy being cold then that's fine. Come back in a couple of months and tell us how much you are enjoying it.

AllLopsided · 02/09/2022 23:13

I am lucky enough to have moved 700 miles SSE of Manchester (since London is not a permitted reference point) where we get an almost an extra hour of daylight in the evenings. But I still dislike the dark nights when they come.

I think the reason people are noticing the darker nights is because in the northern hemisphere the days get shorter faster in September than in any other month. And conversely get lighter faster in March. Personally I start feeling hopeful after the interminable month of January is over!

TheLostNights · 02/09/2022 23:14

@Anon50000 I didn't say they did. But for me that's one of the reasons I am much preferring this scenario to the alternative which was weeks on end of not sleeping, feeling sick and dripping with sweat

MeanderingGently · 02/09/2022 23:14

We've had the worst summer for a few years....too dry, dreadfully hot, the trees are stressed and going into early Autumn, the farmers have a depleted harvest, people have died due to heat stroke in England at least.

Thankfully it's now Autumn and the nights are drawing in, what a relief. It's still warm and we need rain, but the searing heat has finished. Darker evenings and longer nights means the temperature can't stay so high overnight, and there's some blessed cool to sleep in.

I have already got my battery-operated candles working, I love their flickering glow in the evenings. I can't use them in summer evenings, too light. I can't wait for the rain and the damp mornings, and crisp frosts, and the lovely smell of sharp clear air blown down from the north...it cleans the lungs. Summer is my worst season, I bloody hate it and rejoice when it's over. The darker evenings are my first glimmer of hope that it's finally going.....

Winter V Summer?
Guess it makes a nice change from breast V bottle or SAHM V WoHM Grin

1982mommaof4 · 02/09/2022 23:18

@Anon50000 i have never said I enjoy being cold. What I have said is I'm going to make the best of a shit situation.

What's the alternative, nothing is changing anytime soon

Nah. You're not that special. There seem to have been a constant stream of threads on MN about how much people hate summer.

BrendaLee · 02/09/2022 23:21

Sainsburys has Christmas chocolate foe sale. Made me feel quite pissed off tbh…

I can't wait to wear my chunky jumper and boots and then get home and have a snuggle under a blankie on the sofa with a hot choc and looking forward to Christmas.

😂

I cannot imagine typing this with a straight face.

Chunky, blankie and hot choc.....

Ah, those were the days. I've aged out of them and don't even open those threads any more...

Ha ha you’re gas!
Nothing special about liking Winter but the majority of people prefer sunshine. Most of the people I know anyway. They get terribly defensive when I say I am a Winter girl and hate sunshine. Go figure.

annoyedneighbour1 · 02/09/2022 23:28

I'm really sad about it.

Aintnomountainhighenough79 · 02/09/2022 23:29

Yep ! Can not see the appeal of being stuck indoors , it being dark , cold and wet . Love the long days being outdoors and the over all lifestyle that good weather brings. Even in the worst of times the good weather makes life a bit more bearable.

One of the best parts of the year.

shazzybazzy34 · 02/09/2022 23:36

It’s not actually in fairness. I miss out on a lot in the summer. I have tried embracing it. Done the sun holidays with the kids (which I hated), sitting in the garden, bbq’s etc. I just hate it. It depresses me. If I could change the way I feel I would because I feel like I waste the summer trying to avoid it. The rest of the family love the sunshine so I am like a big raincloud of doom who wants to stay home on a sunny day. I have made my peace with it over the years and given up the hope I will ever love Summer.

gardenooh · 02/09/2022 23:49

I feel dread and the long cold darkonrhs ahead. Always a struggle. Hate losing the light so badly, it weighs on my soul
