To feel sad it's now getting dark early

Just another reminder that we are losing our Summer with the nights now drawing in?
Why does it have to fly by so fast?

Nights always seem longer when it's dark.

I love getting home from work and having hours of daylight left. The day seems over so fast even now.

It seems to have come earlier this year. We've had a gorgeous Summer I didn't want it to end. I hate Winter. Getting up in the dark, driving home in the dark. So bloody miserable

It’s not been gorgeous! It’s been one of the longest, hottest, driest summers on record where rail tracks have bowed under the heat and grass has caught fire and buildings have caught fire too. That is not gorgeous.

The dark nights are a welcome respite from all that even though it’s still warm and clammy

Darkness22 · 02/09/2022 21:31

I hate it now. No street lighting here so feel trapped in my house after I finish work as I hate driving down the dark country lanes.

AnyFucker · 02/09/2022 21:31

You what ?

Summer has been fucking interminable this year !

JaneJeffer · 02/09/2022 21:31

It's depressing as are all the "cosy autumn" threads Sad

sheepandcaravan · 02/09/2022 21:31

Hmm, I hate spring, because I'm a tenant farmers wife. Spring signifies lambing, then summer. Very lonely. So usually I love going into winter.

I suppose this year has changed that, storm Arwen destroying the place last winter, then this beautiful weather, in Scotland, has meant we are heading into crisis. No grass, and very little silage, scary times ahead.

So for the first time I'm dreading winter, and what it may bring. Roll on spring

I'm going to have to start hiding them. There's at least 2 a day now.

chillidoritto · 02/09/2022 21:33

I can't believe the people who are whining because we had a lovely summer either!

JaneJeffer · 02/09/2022 21:34

Binary** I'll smother you with that blanket Grin

Knittynanna · 02/09/2022 21:14

I love the changing seasons and finding ways to mark them, but this year I am worried more than ever about what the cold months will bring, especially when I see how many people are on the street and how many are really struggling for money already. The dark closing in as we head into a winter of discontent is enough to put me right off my pumpkin spiced consumables and chunky knitted clothes.

This. Love the changing seasons usually but this year I’m dreading the cold.

Anon50000 · 02/09/2022 21:36

Hot chocs all round? I'll stick a brandy in it.

Partypoooooper · 02/09/2022 21:37

It's dark when I wake up now, makes it harder to get out of bed.

Hibye23289 · 02/09/2022 21:38

Yes I am dreading it, I hate grey clouds it makes me feel miserable. I also hate spiders and it's annoying people moaning about the sun in Summer and talking about Xmas and Autumn when it was August!

You and a million other mumsnetters. Your blanket is calling.

😂😂😂

user1471538283 · 02/09/2022 21:41

I'm finding the early darker nights harder this year. It's been an upsetting time but I've always loved the summer.

The past summer has been warm and it feels like we are rushing towards winter and horrific utility bills.

ManateeFair · 02/09/2022 21:43

Mumsnet, where people practically spit with rage because not everyone likes the same seasons as them. This forum is fucking insane. Why on earth would you be cross about people liking boots and jumpers, ffs?

I really like dark evenings, myself. But I’m not bothered if other people don’t like them, and I also don’t become weirdly furious when people wax lyrical about drinking Pimm’s in the sunshine and wearing floaty dresses and sandals, because it affects me in no way whatsoever and I’m not mental.

SilverWing · 02/09/2022 21:44

I do prefer summer and my mental health seems to prefer it too, but I also like being cosy.
Im worries about gas though, I’m cold blooded. Luckily it’s still rather warm at the moment, even here in Scotland which is unusual for September I think.

feellikeanalien · 02/09/2022 21:45

It's bloody miserable.

Changemaname1 · 02/09/2022 21:45

Am a bit torn because I do like autumn nights but iv really enjoyed this summer , I have a nice garden and outside seating area for the first time in years , the weather has mainly been great and iv enjoyed the long light evenings with dc on the garden or me just sat having a drink relaxing etc

soon it will be cold and dark and on work days I will barely even see daylight . Eughh 😞

Holidaydreamingagain · 02/09/2022 21:45

I can’t bear it, it depresses me, summer has been so wonderful this year. I’ve enjoyed every second

urrrgh46 · 02/09/2022 21:45

I hear you loud and clear!!! I feel exactly the same way. Combined with very severe Raynauds Autumn and Winter make me totally miserable. This year is all the worse as Summer has been wonderfully warm.

Have a hot choc, get under your blanket, light those candles and chill.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 02/09/2022 21:46

You know, every summer there are dozens and dozens of threads about how awful the heat is, and how unbearable they find it, and the sweat, and the insects, the inability to the sleep, and the heat and the sweat and the chub rub and the heat and the swe....

I don't understand, can't relate, and actually feel quite angry about all these people wishing away the few weeks/months of warm, sunny weather we actually get here. So - and I realise this is a radical notion for some of you - I don't post on them. In fact, I hide them. Because going on them to say those people are crazy/bad/wrong and shouldn't hold that opinion, and should just get outside with a cold drink and some sun cream on and try and enjoy it feels unkind and also, pointless. They're hardly going to change their minds, and run joyfully into the sunshine.

So if you're coming here to vent your spleen about the "horrible, hot" summer, and glory in the approach of (cold, dark, damp, fucking miserable) autumn and winter, could you not? Could you, in fact, fuck the fuck off instead?

For some us, the dark evenings herald the approach of months of struggle with our mental health and ability to keep fucking going, because we find them so bloody bleak and depressing. If you don't, good for you, enjoy them. But maybe stick to the many "lovely autumn cosiness!" threads, and leave those of us who do a tiny space to be fucking miserable about it in peace.

Absolutely not. It should be still light evenings and sit out level warm now. It’s only just sept. It’s like a sudden shift to dark nights and rain. Summer was wonderful. Yes we had dry hot spells, but everything has recovered fast inc the grass.

nothing beats not having to put your heating on, flowers everywhere, sunshine. Dark nights with people struggling to heat their homes is nothing to be excited about.

Hobele · 02/09/2022 21:48

Ah, it happens every year.😀

The way I cheer myself up is thinking about Christmas, things I need to do beforehand, enjoy the kids being back at school. After Christmas, the days will be getting longer again.
