To feel sad it's now getting dark early

Just another reminder that we are losing our Summer with the nights now drawing in?
Why does it have to fly by so fast?

Nights always seem longer when it's dark.

Thank fuck the hellish, endless heat in the south east is almost over🥂🍾

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/09/2022 22:10

I don't like feeling like I see less daylight than a pit pony , I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark.

And it is a stark reminder that another year of my life is gone Sad
Buuut , I like to see the seasons change

Just extortionate fuel bills to look forward to now.

ouch321 · 02/09/2022 22:11

Well better than that awful heatwave which has only recently finished

The temperatures now - 20 degrees ish - are absolutely perfect. Like the baby bear's porridge, not too hot and not too cold.

bellamountain · 02/09/2022 22:11

The walks and bike rides in the evenings with the kids will be coming to an end soon. Wish they'd leave the bloody clocks alone too.

megletthesecond · 02/09/2022 22:12

Yanbu. It's a miserable slog to February half term now.
I've never snuggled under a blanket with hot chocolate in my life and I don't intend to start now.

Anon50000 · 02/09/2022 22:12

I do wonder if the snuggly blanket lot have to leave the house in the dark to go to work.

I doubt it.

I hear you completely OP! I love the summer so much, and the spring. I can just about cope up until Bonfire night, then it spirals. I suffer from SAD so I actually turn a corner on 21st December.

Anyone who comes on here wanking on about hot chocolate and boots and blankets can fuck off.

This

mackthepony · 02/09/2022 22:15

Love the earlier nights. Kids are asleep earlier!

JumpNWave · 02/09/2022 22:16

Why can’t people just accept the seasons and embrace them? You’ve had your whole lives to get used to it. Unless you’ve got a serious case of SAD, woman up people. Moaning about the weather constantly is futile.

At least the boots and hot chocolate wankers / 40 degree heifers aren’t moaning.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/09/2022 22:17

Still get unreasonably excited by a bright blowey day to hang the washing out bur wondering how many we have left

SaltyCrisp · 02/09/2022 22:17

But expect this thread to soon full up with people wittering on about snuggling under blankies on the sofa and "hot choc"*

😆

MN has given me an aversion to the word snuggling

OP - we have the glory of autumn to enjoy before winter sets in.

Jourdain11 · 02/09/2022 22:18

I've been snuggling under my blanket with hot spiced lattes all summer just willing the dark cols nights to come sooner. For some reason I've found the heat almost unbearable 🤔

Jourdain11 · 02/09/2022 22:18

Fairylightsongs · 02/09/2022 21:50

So if you're coming here to vent your spleen about the "horrible, hot" summer, and glory in the approach of (cold, dark, damp, fucking miserable) autumn and winter, could you not? Could you, in fact, fuck the fuck off instead?

there’s a thread on going now with people literally so skint they need to time showers. Wishing in winter. Knowing the poverty people will be in. How they will be cold and can’t afford to heat their homes makes me queasy that anyone could relish it.

But some people suffered terribly in the summer this year, losing their homes to fires. The heat in the SE was horrendous and most people don’t have air conditioning. Summer was very difficult for quite a few people.
I do agree that the winter is going to be hard as well.
I like autumn as it’s not extreme either way. Hopefully we can have a long, mild autumn.

halfpasteleven · 02/09/2022 22:18

Love a day that has "good drying" esp now that my tumble dryer won't be on as much in the Winter

Nidan2Sandan · 02/09/2022 22:19

I usually love autumn, it's pretty, it's not usually freezing cold but still chilly enough to sleep under a duvet with a window open and head outdoors in a hoodie and boots and be comfortable. My kind of weather.

But this year it feels like a portent into hell, when I'll be terrified to use electric and gas for fear of the costs. Even my beautiful christmas tree lights are worrying me this year, from a financial aspect.

I like dark nights, less keen on dark mornings.

ProseccoStorm · 02/09/2022 22:19

The dark nights are what I find most challenging.

I don't mind the cold, the wet, the dark mornings but the very short days and limited daylight are hard.

I hate sitting in the office when it's dark outside, I dislike driving home in the dark, I miss the children playing out in the evening, eating outside etc.

This winter feels more daunting than most knowing that many will be cold, hungry or both.

Eeksteek · 02/09/2022 22:19

Normally I don’t mind. But we had those few cold weeks in April and May, where I was really trying to keep the bills down and it was awful. I was cold and miserable. I’m not quite as broke now, but the increases have more than kept pace with my income and I’ve had to take a second job to try to make it through. At least over the summer there have been free things to do outside and the gas bill has been practically non existent. A whole winter of extra work just to stay cold-but-not-freezing and eat-to-live not to enjoy my food seems like a pretty low bar.

Justme10 · 02/09/2022 22:21

Snuggly blanket person here and yes I have to do the nursery run and go to work in the dark.

MangosteenSoda · 02/09/2022 22:22

I love the light more than anything and usually don’t mind the initial drawing in of nights as it’s (in my terms) light dark, not dark dark. These last two nights I have noticed early onset dark dark.

Perhaps this is payback for a warm/dry August. Usually spend August under an umbrella on a sodden beach wishing it would read the dictionary definition of summer.

bunintheoven88 · 02/09/2022 22:22
