To feel sad it's now getting dark early

Just another reminder that we are losing our Summer with the nights now drawing in?
Why does it have to fly by so fast?

Nights always seem longer when it's dark.

Just don't mention that poem about autumn

I'll get banned from MN

The winter bots HAVE ARRIVED

Hot choc shnuggly blankets fairy lights pumpkin spice latte autumn boots COSY COSY SHNUGGLES!

Can't wait for it to be chilly enough to snuggle up under a nice cosy blankie with the kiddies, with some yummy hot choccy and our lovely chunky winter jumpers. Get some candles and a log fire going - glorious hygge in one.

Fairylightsongs · 02/09/2022 22:26

This winter feels more daunting than most knowing that many will be cold, hungry or both

this. I am fortunate that I can afford to eat and heat my home. But I recognise many can’t. I cannot perceive being so selfish, utterly, utterly selfish you’d be shouting with joy about hot chocolate knowing it. But we all knew these people walked amongst us

Fuckitydoodah · 02/09/2022 22:28

I feel the same. I'm feeling it more than ever this year. I detest waking up in the dark and leaving work in the dark. I love being out with the kids in the garden on a light evening or walking the dog. I think like a lot of people, I'm dreading what lies ahead this winter. There doesn't feel like there's much to look forward to.

YABU dark night means autumn- cosy nights in and Christmas 🎄

ChicagoBears · 02/09/2022 22:29

Adore autumn and winter so I love to see the nights drawing in

YANBU. But expect this thread to soon full up with people wittering on about snuggling under blankies on the sofa and "hot choc".

Beat me to it.

chillidoritto · 02/09/2022 22:29

I hope they choke on their shitty hot "choccy". I also hope they love getting the flu etc and enjoy feeling ill for weeks with all the germs that are flying round in the winter.

Honestly, some people need their bumps feeling!

Anon50000 · 02/09/2022 22:30

I can't wait to sit under my lakeland heated throw with my boots on.

But on the other hand, many people were selfishly shouting with joy about the heatwaves and lack of rain, which are awful for many, which have devastated our farms and therefore part of our food supplies, and which have devastated the environment and natural world.

I don't care for winter or autumn any more than spring or summer, but you can't make out like the summer lovers are lovely unselfish people and the winter lovers are uncaring bastards.

I get that. As said. I recognise my privilege that I can eat and heat my home. These people who don’t care. gloating , knowing so many will struggle is really nauseating. How can you scream hot chocolate and hygyee knowing. Knowing what it means to so many families.

Anon50000 · 02/09/2022 22:32

Except for the ones banging on about their warm cosy winter houses...

i didn’t. I expect empathy both sides. But the bottom line is more people will struggle So much more now. So gloating about hygee and hot chocolate ajd your warm home and “shnuggles’ is no better than going on a thread about hungry people and rejoicing about your feasts.

its sick and utterly selfish. Because they know.

Anon50000 · 02/09/2022 22:38

I'll sit beside the aga and eat cake.

UrsulaPandress · 02/09/2022 22:39

Any adult who knowingly types shnuggles needs to have a long hard word with themselves.

And I realise I’ve just typed it.

alotoftutus · 02/09/2022 22:41

I'm in the middle! I love spring and autumn. Summer is a headache for my family. A few of us have severe seasonal allergies so we spend months not breathing, feeling dozzy on medication, eyes exploding etc etc I also hate sleeping when it hot!

However I frigging hate rain, and don't drive so feel more trapped in winter when it's dark.

Autumn and spring are just perfect 🤩

TheLostNights · 02/09/2022 22:43

Summer lasted forever this year and was so uncomfortable and sweaty for far too long, especially in London.
I'm an Autumn and Winter person so I like the nights drawing in. Don't care if people want to throw abuse my way because of that. I'm just happy to not be dripping with sweat and to not feel ill because of the extreme heat we have had for so long. It's still warm tonight though, 19C still but more bearable than the hell of the previous scorching hot weather,

How is it "utterly, utterly selfish", exactly? Does me liking the colder months push up fuel prices somehow? This kind of hyperbole is really weird.

As is the idea that the weather is controlled by people "wishing it away".

I voted YABU because I don’t think 8pm is early! We are still pre-equinox. Come back and post this in November.

We don't all live in London. I know some find that hard to grasp.

DustinsHat · 02/09/2022 22:49

I love all of our seasons, and there are benefits to it getting colder and darker. Kids often sleep better and longer and the wasps might bugger off at last. Autumn is a beautiful season and winter is a time for rest, and people need rest just as the plants, trees and wildlife do. But there's definitely a feeling of regret here that the summer, with its gorgeous foliage everywhere and lack of heating bills, is almost finished.
