Should I pay?

I signed up to hellofresh free box when the codes were going about, forgot to cancel but I always keep my money in savings and transfer if needed anyways and they’ve sent me 2 boxes which I haven’t paid for and aren’t meals I’d eat and are now chasing payment for them. Has anyone else had this issue?

You need to pay and going forward always read things before you sign them which is what this is effectively.

ExPatHereForAChat · 27/08/2022 15:09

Oh dear.

Yes, they are capitalising on the fact that people forget to cancel subscriptions.
However, we're all adults who are aware of this and know how to cancel subscriptions.
You forget, you pay.

Ted27 · 27/08/2022 15:10

You will be receiving an email every week asking you to choose your meals. If you don’t respond to the emails they will send you the pre selected meals.
or you can choose to skip that week and not receive anything.

I’ve always found them to be reasonable and have had a couple of refunds when the order wasn’t right

Decidualcast · 27/08/2022 15:13

YABVVU and naive.

Next time you have a free trial, put the end date in your calendar, set an alert on it a day before and cancel.

NotYourOscarSpeech · 27/08/2022 15:13

It’s a weird business model, in the sense that companies generally don’t send goods to consumers if they haven’t been able to collect payment/then charge afterwards. It’s not like B2B with 30 day invoice terms or whatever. So I can see why you would be surprised to receive a box knowing that it hadn’t been paid for. Although after receiving one unexpected box I think I would have called them (and they might have cancelled the charge out of goodwill), two is pushing it.

Right can no one see where I’m coming from? You pay for things before you buy them. You don’t order a Tesco shop, payment doesn’t go through and you still get it anyway. It seems a bit scammy they’re doing this to people who clearly signed up to a free trial and forgot to cancel

No. You should read what you are signing up for.

Zonder · 27/08/2022 15:16

They don't know that you forgot to cancel. Generally if people don't cancel it means they want meals. You didn't cancel so they sent you meals. You have to cancel to stop the meals coming. They're not mind readers. You got the stuff and now you have to pay.

chillipenguin · 27/08/2022 15:16

How have you managed to receive two boxes before you released something was up?

Zonder · 27/08/2022 15:18

You pay for things before you buy them.

Not always. Have you ever been to a restaurant? Or used gas or electricity?

bruffin · 27/08/2022 15:18

they are really easy to talk to and contact.
I cancelled as my dietary needs changed. They only cancelled one then took the money for the next week which we didnt want

Took 5 minutes live chat to sort out

Chikapu · 27/08/2022 15:18

People can't really be this dim, can they?

She didn't like the items in the first one, so I suppose she was trying her luck hoping they second one would be more to her liking. But still saying "I didn't request this".

KatherineJaneway · 27/08/2022 15:19

Deliverooaddict · 27/08/2022 14:35

Why would they send me it though? It’s not something I ordered is it, I didn’t choose those meals

You did though. You gave them your credit card details knowing if you did not cancel within the time period, you'd continue to receive deliveries.

Not rocket science.

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/08/2022 15:21

Obvs

Cheeky!

What did you do with £100 worth of food OP?

Mindymomo · 27/08/2022 15:24

I have a magazine and dog food subscription, both were on offer for first 2 deliveries, I had to tick that I understood that after the first 2 deliveries, if I didn’t cancel I would be charged full price, but I can cancel at any time. Subscription is exactly that you subscribe to something regularly and pay for it at full price after the offer has finished.

and repeat.

OP YABU

you DIDNT CANCEL
if you don’t pick your meals they pick them for you it’s all in the FAQs not even small print

Frances658 · 27/08/2022 15:25

Haven't we all done something a bit like this with a subscription? But this is their business model, a % of people will forget they've subscribed, but they'll still have to pay, Hello Fresh completely entitled to pursue for the money. It's not like ordering something from an online shop, this is how subscriptions work. Of course you need to pay, even if it is almost £100, and don't take out any more subscriptions for the free trials! I've learned my lesson on that one too.

😂

faw2009 · 27/08/2022 15:26

Presumably your card has already been charged?

Brideandpredjudice · 27/08/2022 15:26

Did you actually read any of the terms?

Hesma · 27/08/2022 15:27

You didn’t cancel so it’s on you to pay

Miajk · 27/08/2022 15:28

First of all, why didn't you cancel after the first box? Why let them send you another one?

Second, by enrolling into the free trial you are accepting the legal agreement that after the trial you're subscribed.

There's no angle you can look at this from and think you shouldn't pay. Learn your lesson for the future.

lpaisjw · 27/08/2022 15:28

If you had received one box and forgotten to cancel I'd be slightly sympathetic, but you've happily received two boxes of food and then moaned they want you to pay 🙄
