LittleOwl153 · 19/08/2022 15:19

Just that....

I'm sitting waiting for my 1-2pm delivery which hasn't turned up so I ring the call centre.

Due to technical difficulties they have cancelled ALL ORDERS NATIONALLY after 1pm today
(I assume tomorrow is ok?)

No call, no email, nothing....

Just thought I'd share so noone is dinner less tonight!

I can’t get upset about this, it happens occasionally- and I screw up my order too, occasionally. It’s a good service most of the time, massive amounts of tech and logistics involved, amazing it works so well most of the time!

Yes I agree. We’ve never had a problem with Tesco deliveries, other than once when the driver was involved in an accident and our delivery didn’t arrive which of course we weren’t annoyed by, we just hoped they were okay. They probably couldn’t get in touch with people on this occasion because they couldn’t access the details at all. These things happen and it’s no one’s fault. It sounds like some people had their order delivered so they couldn’t post on socials that all orders were cancelled. I suppose they could have said they were having problems though. Either way, if this happened to us we wouldn’t starve, even if we had to have baked beans and digestives for breakfast (just a couple of the things in our cupboard!), and I doubt many others would.

Just ordered stuff for a self catering holiday tomorrow? why on earth do people take food on holiday? Place have shops somewhere surely

I quite like to enjoy my holiday rather than do a weekly shop for 5 people 🤣
Also, I can’t fit £130 worth of shopping in the car alongside all of our other belongings!

SpinMyWheelsAround · 20/08/2022 20:08

So many questions about why don't you..? and why do you..? and why can't you just..? and so forth.

It's none of your bloody business.

MumEeeee · 20/08/2022 20:12

Not sure if mentioned, but I can easily go to the shop and find time. It just seemed more environmentally friendly to have one van on the road instead of multiple cars? That was my logic.
The delivery saver pass probably is similar to a months petrol shopping anyway I’d have thought.

SpinMyWheelsAround · 20/08/2022 20:27

I don't think any posters need to justify why they need a home delivery.

KurtCobainsColourfulCarpet · 20/08/2022 20:31

Tesco food isn't very nice anyway so they've done you a favour.

IDreamOfTheMoors · 20/08/2022 20:51

In the U.S. we have a company called “Instacart” that has independent shoppers who go to the market of your choice & get the items you’ve chosen & then deliver them to you, as opposed to the market doing it. They send you to the online version of the market where you make your exact choices and then check out. The Instacart person then does your shopping for you, then delivers your groceries to you You pay at the time of ordering.
It’s along the same lines as takeaway deliveries.
Do you have anything like that in the U.K. that you could use just as a stopgap for this weekend?
Instacart, for me, after all the charges & sub-charges and tip is too expensive, so although I’ve used it, I don’t make a practice of it.
Just a thought — I’d hate being left high & dry. I’m really sorry this has happened.

Snaketime · 20/08/2022 21:34

I work for a subsidiary of Tesco and we haven't been getting deliveries of stock, I don't know why they cancelled deliveries today, but if they get the same deliveries as us, from the same company, so I imagine they have very little stock.

Alizzle · 20/08/2022 21:42

Companies have a specific timescale that they have to report a cyber attack otherwise they get heavily fined. Speaking from experience. More likely to be a tech issue.

dlizi4 · 20/08/2022 22:02

Belated Birthday wishes!

Rutennotou · 20/08/2022 22:06

We got a delivery from them on Tuesday afternoon, still haven't charged my partners card for it but of course I know they can charge any time later so thought no more of it. Just seen this thread so checked my Tesco account and it says last order delivered July 27th and my next order is August 16th - which is past and we've already received.

Oh no….
I’m just about to leave the house to drive to pick up my “Click & Collect” order which I have already paid for & received the receipt earlier today.🙄
Keeping my fingers 🤞that my food is ready & waiting.

No problem🙂 Picked up my click & collect order at the scheduled time slot, no substitutions for 3 week’s worth of food.🙂

Rusty16 · 20/08/2022 22:24

I've noticed lots of retailers webs are increasingly going down. Damart's for the second time in 6 weeks, has gone completely down and won't be up again until next Thursday! No orders can be taken; despatched; no Accounts checked. Who is doing this, Russia or IT Nerds?

E17Stowmum · 20/08/2022 22:30

Hilarious. I thought Alan Bennett had stopped writing.
God, life is hard in the 21C.

pinkpantherpink · 20/08/2022 22:44

Tesco customer service for online shoppers has always been appalling, in my experience. Glad i don't rely on them.

As others have said, it sounds like a cyber attack. Tut tut

CelestiaNoctis · 20/08/2022 22:51

Asda is also having a shortage of drivers. On holiday with a young kid and a baby and waited from 7 (slot was 7-8) to half 8, decided to call and they said 10:30 now. Waited til 10:30 and they said it wasn't looking likely and recommended I reorder. I now have no food besides half a sandwich from lunch earlier and some bottled water as everything is closed! And cos its Sunday nothing opens until 10 tomorrow so I have no idea what I'm going to do! Nightmare.

BusyMama22 · 20/08/2022 22:55

I got mine 3-4pm so definitely not all

Diplidocus4 · 20/08/2022 22:59

@CelestiaNoctis
Try local FB group ? Say you are on holiday and stuck , someone may have spare bread / milk ?
Got to be worth a try ?

Wimin123 · 21/08/2022 06:54

Wait until the security cyber attacks really start in the UK then we will know what real chaos is like! We are all going to to do so well in a cashless society- too reliant on thinking that the I.T. systems will always work. We are just sleep walking into this….

SparklingPinot · 21/08/2022 07:13

I had this last Saturday with Tesco! Exact same excuse. Bt it’s technical issues it’s driver availability / drivers calling in sick etc. FWIW OP I complained to their customer service & got a £10 voucher to use off my next shop. Not much to compensate for having no food at short notice last weekend but better than nothing.

loomer · 21/08/2022 10:18

My home delivery on Friday ‘vanished’ and I didn’t hear anything from them until Saturday morning. However, I had already jumped onto social media and sussed the situation, managed to get a delivery slot for Saturday lunchtime and put the whole order through again. This arrived without any problems. I wasn’t out of pocket as the original order had not been charged for, and I had enough food in the house to tide us over, so wasn’t a huge problem.
We get a weekly Tesco delivery and have done for years - this is the first time we’ve ever had any problems beyond driver running a bit late in traffic.
Our driver yesterday mentioned that he had been told Friday’s system failure was down to a disgruntled employee, but that’s just hearsay!

@KTyoupigeon appreciated. But most people didn't starve to death before online delivery services. Everyone has just got so lazy.

I have a life-threatening condition but can still manage to get in my car and drive to the local supermarket. Woo! Go me.

Apologies if people have already responded to this, but I didn’t want to forget by the time I got to the end if they haven’t.

I am one of these “lazy” people who relies on online shopping. My husband and I work full-time. We have 3 children. I have severe back problems which means struggle to walk for any length of time and have severe pain if I’m lifting anything even slightly heavy. I struggle to find the time to get out to the supermarket with work and the kids. If I do go, I’ll end up in so much pain, I’m unable to do anything for the rest of the day. Since covid I’ve struggled with severe anxiety that has made it very difficult for me to leave the house. I’ve started to the last few weeks - but I would still struggle to deal with a busy supermarket.

there are many reasons that have nothing to do with laziness. Great that you are able to go with your “life-threatening” condition, but he honest - you do it either because you want/like going to the supermarket or because you don’t trust the internet for shopping.

Rawfoodjunkie · 21/08/2022 14:37

Asda no better. My last 3 orders were a no show. They kept saying the order was on the way and then rebooking it for the following day but still no show so eventually cancelled after 2 days. This happened over 3 consecutive weeks. They said it was something to do with their drivers. But I got no emails or messages. I had to keep calling and sending messages via twitter to get any response.

Rawfoodjunkie · 21/08/2022 14:48

By the way, I too have to have deliveries because I have blood cancer and unfortunately have not had any response to the vaccines like 500,000 others. There is a very real chance (30%) that if I caught Covid I would die so have had to self shield for the last 2 and a half years and will have to continue to do so until the government decides to purchase Evusheld which does work.

I had no idea this has happened to some people, that’s awful to hear- I’m so sorry. Going to look it up…
