LittleOwl153 · 19/08/2022 15:19

Just that....

I'm sitting waiting for my 1-2pm delivery which hasn't turned up so I ring the call centre.

Due to technical difficulties they have cancelled ALL ORDERS NATIONALLY after 1pm today
(I assume tomorrow is ok?)

No call, no email, nothing....

Just thought I'd share so noone is dinner less tonight!

My friend wasn't contacted yesterday. I wasn't contacted when it happened to me. They may not have the details but they could put it out on social media so that customers know. If you are able to go shopping you can, or you can get another delivery booked for the following day from a different supermarket

We live in a rural area where the nearest supermarkets are 20 miles away, so a 40 mile round trip. I work full time from home sometimes 12 hour days. The last thing I want to do after work or at the weekend is drive to a supermarket. That is my choice. It doesn't mean I am lazy , it means that I organise my time and my life in a way that suits me best to maximise my time. I can do more work or housework while the shopping arrives at my door every week with minimum effort. I also get a lot of shopping for my elderly neighbour which I would not be able to do if I had to go to town as I would buy a lot more in one go as I would not go every week.

Their system really isn't fit for purpose at the moment though and by not informing customers early enough it takes away their chance to be able to do something about it on the same day.

They said they would be changing their receipts so that you could understand them, but that hasn't happened yet either. I have added them up on a spreadsheet but cannot ever get to the figures charged on the receipt.

They have made it as difficult as possible to complain to them about anything.

Like all companies at the moment. They like to take your money, but heaven forbid they should have to talk to an actual customer.

I'd vote for Liz Truss if she got a law passed to say that all companies have to have an adequately staffed customer care line (maybe say x number of staff per day based on number of customers) and also an email address that you have to a reply to within 24 hours.

As for supermarkets, they shouldn't really be charging people's cards until the delivery has been made. That way, you wouldn't end up having money taken, a delivery not made, and then you don't have any money left to buy from an alternative source.

Mamamia7962 · 20/08/2022 15:45

They were delivering in my area last night at about 9.30pm.

gatehouseoffleet · 20/08/2022 15:48

It's weird that you are judged for doing supermarket shopping online, but presumably those same judgey people wouldn't think twice about ordering from Amazon, or lookfantastic.com or Asos or whoever!

Online shopping is great for elderly people who can no longer drive, it's great for people with young kids who will play up in supermarkets, it's great for people who don't want to leave their pets at home and it's great if you just find supermarkets annoying places to be.

My DH does our main shop each week. If he didn't, I would do it online, and have done earlier this year when he had an operation and wasn't able to go for a few weeks. I don't mind doing a small shop in the week but that's enough for me.

Longleggedgiraffe · 20/08/2022 17:55

Yes, it's extremely annoying to have this happen and Tescos response isn't as good as it should be, but to generate the sort of ire I've seen on here dismays me. This is a first World problem. I'm quite sure millions of people would be happy to have this sort of food problem. Get a grip and put it in perspective. Be annoyed by all means, but why must dome of you be so rude about it?

LifesTooShortForYourNonsense · 20/08/2022 18:01

I can’t get upset about this, it happens occasionally- and I screw up my order too, occasionally. It’s a good service most of the time, massive amounts of tech and logistics involved, amazing it works so well most of the time!

Twopandemicpregnancies · 20/08/2022 18:22

Have normal delivery services resumed for those who had orders coming today (Saturday 20th Aug) or is it all still up the creek?

TempyBrennan · 20/08/2022 18:30

Be interesting about tomorrows as I placed an order 2pm ish today with no issues, have since received the standard texts and emails with no suggestion it won’t be possible!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 20/08/2022 18:34

My Tesco order was finalised last night & delivered this morning as usual, no problems at all.

Needtostaypositive · 20/08/2022 18:37

My order was cancelled yesterday. I rebooked for today and it’s just been delivered. 2 minor subs.

RedSnail · 20/08/2022 18:37

They called me yesterday about half an hour before my click and collect slot to let me know. Reordered it to collect today instead.

rozzyraspberry · 20/08/2022 18:40

Convenience is not the only reason for ordering online. With finances a bit tight for people ordering online means you can see how much you’re spending as you go.

I pay £6.99 per month for delivery to me and my elderly payments, which is less than I’d pay on fuel going to the shops.

Tomasinabombadil · 20/08/2022 18:41

Glittertwins · 19/08/2022 15:52

This is not the first time this has happened recently as it happened to us. No notification whatsoever and I only found out when I called to ask what was going on since I'd had my receipt emailed and payment taken.

Oh no….
I’m just about to leave the house to drive to pick up my “Click & Collect” order which I have already paid for & received the receipt earlier today.🙄
Keeping my fingers 🤞that my food is ready & waiting.

goldfinchfan · 20/08/2022 18:43

I am disabled and use a wheelchair.
I don't drive nor have a car.
The online delivery service is a lifeline for me

Otherwise not much in the of provisions, food and non foods.

Queenbee77 · 20/08/2022 18:51

Happened to be during 1st lockdown towards end...Asda cancelled my order at 9pm and I had nothing in for breakfast for 3 little ones....reason...they didn't have more than 20%of my shopping? They said they would compensate me £10.......😜....I have heard Waitrose are good. But I cant afford it.......

Needtostaypositive · 20/08/2022 18:51

Was your delivery cancelled yesterday? Did you try to rebook for today? If you were that stuck, a Call to your local store will have helped. They go out of their way to help deliver essentials. I have had this before when I ordered baby milk for a late night delivery with my husband away and a toddler asleep. Tesco excelled themselves that night. Otherwise a neighbour/relative? Hope you have managed to get What you needed today.

CactusBlossom · 20/08/2022 18:53

I had Amazon Prime Groceries once not turn up. At midnight, they said "wait a couple of hours". Still nothing. They did arrange the next day though... We take this service so much for granted these days! Once Tesco couldn't deliver rubber gloves, so they sent me Brillo pads as an alternative!?! 🙄🤷🏼‍♀️

mogsrus · 20/08/2022 18:58

Just ordered stuff for a self catering holiday tomorrow? why on earth do people take food on holiday? Place have shops somewhere surely

CosmicCabbage · 20/08/2022 18:58

Maybe Tesco have (outsourced their IT to get) IT done on the cheap, with no backup systems for hot failover.

Cissy1962 · 20/08/2022 19:07

My delivery isn't cancelled, my app says driver's on the way. Strange...

nexus63 · 20/08/2022 19:22

this happened to me about a month ago, my order was 9 - 10 so by the time i found out i could not get to the shop, two weeks ago i put in a £45 order, it arrived but was only £20 worth of shopping, i did not order anything that would not be in any supermarket, bread, milk, cheese and lurpak, what supermarket runs out of lurpak.....lol, i went online about an hour after delivery and all these items it said were in stock, i have been trying to find a diet drink that i can use and not upset my stomach and tesco's own is the only one i like, so i am stuck with tesco, i was going to try asda as everbody is raving about how good the new essentials range is.

Weareallvirgins · 20/08/2022 19:32

Sure theres something in your house to feed family

AnnieSnap · 20/08/2022 19:39

Sounds like really poor service. I order from Sainsbury’s and have never experienced this 🤞

Chuzzle · 20/08/2022 19:45

Tesco are terrible for this. Bet they've taken your payment, too, and they will refund it to your payment method "in 3-5 working days". It may be that this time they've not notified because the email system is down, but on other occasions the email is very much up and running and they claim it is impossible to send a message to all customers saying "apologies but due to XYZ if you have a delivery scheduled for DDMMYY at HHMM it will have been cancelled". They can send blanket emails when they want you to spend your money but otherwise it's a bit old NOPE.

Bathbomb99 · 20/08/2022 19:46

Tesco were brilliant during covid/lockdown but have been pretty shitty since. Constantly having issues unfortunately.
