I think my Uber driver is following me

Please bear with me. I know this sounds ridiculous, however, I got an Uber home at around 3am in the morning last Saturday.

To be totally honest, I don't really remember too much about the journey home (I was a bit worse for wear after a friends birthday party.) I left my phone in the taxi and the driver returned it to me the next day. I hadn't contacted Uber, he just turned up at about 10am. I was super grateful as I had no idea where I'd left it.

I then saw him again outside my flat (I live in the middle of a major city so this isn't unusual in itself) and he was looking up at my window. The same thing happened the next day. I wfh and my desk is by the window hence me noticing.

I brushed both of these incidents off as a coincidence, however, he's just turned up at my flat door tonight (9pm) asking if I have booked an Uber. I haven't. He's now sitting in his car outside and I'm not sure if I'm overreacting.

You wouldn't be the first one this has happened to. Report report report

Thatiswild · 12/08/2022 21:25

I’d feel weird about that too, yanbu.

keeprunningupthathill · 12/08/2022 21:25

It really doesn't sound as if you're overreacting at all.

MaggieFS · 12/08/2022 21:25

Hi Op, that doesn't sound at all right. I am not really sure what to advise but didn't want to read and run so giving you a handhold until someone comes with good advice. Is anyone else in your house with you?

35965a · 12/08/2022 21:25

Call the police and also report to Uber

Offredismysister · 12/08/2022 21:26

No, not coincidence, creepy & stalker like behaviour. Report to the police.

Jojobees · 12/08/2022 21:26

Call 101, have you got his registration plate?

AlmostAJillSandwich · 12/08/2022 21:26

Call 101 and report, this is stalking and he could get dangerous. Is your phone locked? Could he have gotten in to it and copied anything, installed any kind of tracking app etc?

NeverHadANickname · 12/08/2022 21:26

Definitely report it to Uber at least, surely they'll be able to see if he is supposed to be near you for other jobs even if they can't tell you.

I have a password on my phone, but I didn't even think of this to be honest.

Please report 😰 can never be too careful! I’d be so freaked out xx

Yes I've got the reg.

I don't want to get him into trouble if he's genuinely just waiting on another customer. But, it just doesn't feel right.

Offredismysister · 12/08/2022 21:31

Uber drivers don’t usually knock on your door do they? They just treat it as a no show, drive off & debit your account.

Cheeseballer · 12/08/2022 21:34

This would freak me out too. Sorry OP that this is happening to you. Has he left? Is there anyone you can call to come and be with you?

Mackes · 12/08/2022 21:35

Thank you, I appreciate it. Unfortunately I'm on my own this week as my flatmate is working away.

Please report to uber and police. Uber will really easily be able to track if he has rides in that area at that time, so he won't be penalised if he is just local and getting local rides, but they will definitely investigate and make sure you are safe.

35965a · 12/08/2022 21:37

You know he isn’t genuinely waiting on another customer, come on. Please don’t let the fact we are conditioned to ‘be kind’ to people risk your safety. Report this. If he is genuine (he is not) then no harm done to anyone. But if you don’t report and he isn’t genuine…too risky.

You don’t need to have thought of this. It’s highly unlikely!!

he knows where you live already, he’s doing enough to be a problem. No need to worry about tracking apps or stuff like that. Just report

this forum loves hyping things up unnecessarily

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/08/2022 21:38

Jesus OP - how are you over-reacting?? Call the police, report it, and then report to Uber with a crime number. I am sorry to be harsh but you cannot be this passive in life. Get on and call.

FrazzleDazz · 12/08/2022 21:39

If your gut says something is up, it usually is. I'd ring and report to Uber & 101. Is he still outside?

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/08/2022 21:39

And take an assertiveness course. It's not your job to be lovely to everyone!

liveforsummer · 12/08/2022 21:41

There are thousands of Uber drivers. Even if one was waiting for a neighbour then it would be highly unlikely to be him. No coincidences here.

TwoMonthsOff · 12/08/2022 21:42

Predator OP nip it in the bud now, hope you feel safe tonight

Mackes · 12/08/2022 21:42

This is what comes up when I try to report to Uber. I don't think any of these are appropriate?

My general rule is never grass about anything unless someones safety is likely in danger and I'm saying report it.
