I think my Uber driver is following me

Please bear with me. I know this sounds ridiculous, however, I got an Uber home at around 3am in the morning last Saturday.

To be totally honest, I don't really remember too much about the journey home (I was a bit worse for wear after a friends birthday party.) I left my phone in the taxi and the driver returned it to me the next day. I hadn't contacted Uber, he just turned up at about 10am. I was super grateful as I had no idea where I'd left it.

I then saw him again outside my flat (I live in the middle of a major city so this isn't unusual in itself) and he was looking up at my window. The same thing happened the next day. I wfh and my desk is by the window hence me noticing.

I brushed both of these incidents off as a coincidence, however, he's just turned up at my flat door tonight (9pm) asking if I have booked an Uber. I haven't. He's now sitting in his car outside and I'm not sure if I'm overreacting.

This is not right at all. Good that you've reported him, hopefully there is an innocent explanation, but given what you've said it gives off a bad vibe.

Like others have said, make sure someone in real life is aware of the situation & give them the details of the number etc too.

Unfortunately in my line of work I have come across a lot of stalkers & the risk they pose should not be underestimated.

Hoping he's gone for good now OP.
I have never used Uber and rarely get Taxi's, do you sit in the back as a rule, or chat with them upfront?

Just wondering what the chances were that he spotted your phone, before you left and decided not to say?
I wonder if you were holding it and put it down/dropped it on the seat before getting out?

He seems unbalanced whatever happened.

Trust your instincts report to the police and Uber.... if he is innocent it won't be an issue, but always trust your instincts, I'd be very concerned also if I were in your shoes. Let us know you're ok x

He definitely sounds creepy, I'm speaking for your friend's and family here when I say this, they would absolutely rather you message or call them at any day or night if it mean't that you would be safe! Call 999 if he turns up again!!

This happened to me op. The Uber driver was a school dad who I walked past occasionally on the way home but never said hi etc to. Since we live very close to school, he obviously saw me entering or leaving my home so knew where I lived. He parked outside my house several times in the evening, in his taxi, just watching and knowing my dh's car wasnt there so he wasn't at home. He followed behind me at school a couple of times even though I had deliberately held back to let him go first. Shocking that someone would do that whilst they have their own kids there but there you go.

I told my dh who literally got hold of him the next morning at school time and I think it's safe to say he's never driven down our road again or been weird at school.

1 million per cent report it to the police and please stay safe. Don't ever think you're over reacting . It's better to be safe than sorry.

that is so disheartening, to think it would be safe ordering an Uber after hours and being tipsy or more. I'm from Canada and Uber hasn't been implemented in my province yet (Vancouver British Columbia). for this one I would maybe call the police and see what they say. I would make sure you're careful entering and exiting your apartment. see if anything odd happens again, and then maybe you or the police can call the driver's boss. write everything down. I think that they have to have a criminal records' check in that company. weird, but I have been hearing not so good things about women's experience with these drivers. above all: ALWAYS TRUST THAT VOICE INSIDE! and don't pay attention to people that say you're exaggerating.

He’s escalated from sitting outside staring to letting you know he is stalking you. This, in itself, is very worrying. He wants contact with you whether you like it or not. He’s misinterpreted you being friendly and grateful as something more.

In addition to reporting please try to stay around people. He can lose his licence for this and if he knocks again, remind him of this. State that you don’t want any contact and that he’s harassing you,

Please update, I had very little sleep thinking about you. This situation is serious and anyone who thinks it’s not, is not helping you at all. You either need Public Protection or a police presence outside your home. I don’t trust that Uber driver! Plus please be aware that he could have a friend watching you when he isn’t there. Not trying to freak you out, but haven’t been through hell similar to this as you know from my comment last night, I don’t want you going through the same or worse.

He is testing you, seeing what you will accept behaviour wise. We are programmed to be polite and accepting as women, but your gut is telling you something is wrong.
Please report to your council too. Are you in London? You can report to Transport for London even for Ubers. They will take it seriously as you should.
