I think my Uber driver is following me

Please bear with me. I know this sounds ridiculous, however, I got an Uber home at around 3am in the morning last Saturday.

To be totally honest, I don't really remember too much about the journey home (I was a bit worse for wear after a friends birthday party.) I left my phone in the taxi and the driver returned it to me the next day. I hadn't contacted Uber, he just turned up at about 10am. I was super grateful as I had no idea where I'd left it.

I then saw him again outside my flat (I live in the middle of a major city so this isn't unusual in itself) and he was looking up at my window. The same thing happened the next day. I wfh and my desk is by the window hence me noticing.

I brushed both of these incidents off as a coincidence, however, he's just turned up at my flat door tonight (9pm) asking if I have booked an Uber. I haven't. He's now sitting in his car outside and I'm not sure if I'm overreacting.

I've just read this
I hope your okay
I was followed by a man on a bike on Wednesday night -he watched me get in the house and then stayed outside for about 15 mins ...creeped me out
Hope your okay

BlueReindeer · 12/08/2022 22:58

@Mackes if he comes back again and you haven’t had your 101 call answered yet, then it is absolutely a 999 call. It’s only 11pm. You can phone or text friends or family any time. Text them you are scared and you are waiting the police. I would drive to pick you up at 4am or send someone to get you, I would be horrified if you felt you couldn’t ask me and something happened. Even if you were just a school mum friend who I said hi to at the gate. If you called or messaged saying you were unsafe and could you come round, I would welcome you. Let someone know in real life.

RhubarbFairy · 12/08/2022 22:58

Have also reported both of those awful messages.

OP, have you got someone with you now?

Chocolate2cake · 12/08/2022 22:59

Hope you’re ok OP.

MatronicO6 · 12/08/2022 23:00

Agree with everyone here this is inappropriate and creepy behavior. As if an Uber actually calls at your door or waits around for a customer for as long as he was outside your door.

Also how did he know which door to knock on to give your phone back if you live in apartment building? He must of waited an watched the lights go on. Report everything, Uber can sometimes be a bit slow/crap at dealing with complaints, I would keep following up with what action was taken/outcome was.

Definitely report it to police. Take a note of all sightings so far, times, observations etc. Also sadly agree that may need a male friend or relative to step in and address him. Something very similar happened to a friend of mine and in the end was chased off by our friend approaching him that scared him off.

Whatever you do OP do not worry about consideration for him or his position. He clearly has not a single worry about making you uncomfortable.

Justgorgeous · 12/08/2022 23:01

There are many reported sexual assaults by Uber drivers. Report immediately to police

Trixiefirecracker · 12/08/2022 23:01

Also reported. Shockingly awful comments from @rodeobob

sarahc336 · 12/08/2022 23:06

Yes fffs to this comment too...:

GG1986 · 12/08/2022 23:08

Report him, this is really creepy. Do not answer the door to him.

CuriousMama · 12/08/2022 23:15

Please don't keep quoting the racism. Once the racist comments are deleted yours are there.

wheresthetimegone4 · 12/08/2022 23:19

Jesús. Report this. That's really inappropriate and weird. Report it definitely.

Gensola · 12/08/2022 23:24

Really hope you’re ok OP.

Jadebanditchillipepper · 12/08/2022 23:30

Good luck op, I hope you're ok. One appearance after he had returned your phone? Maybe it's legit, but this really doesn't sound right to me.

Really hope you're ok

PetalLeaves · 12/08/2022 23:32

OP you are not crazy. If you can, get a male friend/family member to come and stay with you and be visible or go stay elsewhere. Like others have said, take pictures and notes of dates and times. Please please report. I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

alotoftutus · 12/08/2022 23:33

@rodeobob what like Sarah Everards psychopath killer you mean - oh no wait 🤬

Stop with your nonsense! Someone's ethnicity has no bearing on this what so ever! Go and take your racism somewhere it's wanted - like up your arse hole!

Tangelablue · 12/08/2022 23:37

Report to uber, they will take it seriously. My friend works for uber and was suspended for using a public toilet after dropping a customer off. They looked into it and realised he was not following the customer and he still works for uber. It was a pain for him but gave me a lot of faith in uber and would rather use them than local taxis

NoWayRose · 12/08/2022 23:40

Hope you’re okay - can you get someone over?

Don’t feel bad. It sounds like he could have even dipped into your bag to get your mobile, so he’d have an excuse to talk to you.

Lampan · 12/08/2022 23:44

Anyone suggesting there might be an innocent explanation needs to listen to The Followers podcast. It definitely sounds like stalking and seems to be escalating quite quickly. You have done the right thing by reporting it OP.

Twilightimmortal · 12/08/2022 23:44

I bet the racist has forgotten about the white black cab driver who raped hundreds of women.

Lifeomars · 12/08/2022 23:49

I'm not going to go into details about the two awful things that happened to me at the hands of white males, but they acted as they did due to being male, not due to their ethnicity and I don't go around saying all white males are predators just because of what I have been through.

Decidualcast · 12/08/2022 23:49

It’s good that you posted here. I always find MN to be a great source of support. I hope this gets reported to both the police and Uber.
