To ask if and when you take off your wedding/engagement rings?

This is not an exciting post. 😂

I was engaged for a year and took my engagement ring off whenever I was home. Only put it on when I was leaving the house.

I’ve been married a few weeks and have been doing the same with my wedding ring. I’ve noticed that DH never takes his off, though. I’m contemplating doing the same, but I’m wondering if it’s a ‘thing’.

What do you do? Leave them on all the time? Take them off for cooking? Showers? When you wash your hands?

I took my engagement ring off when I got dumped.
<misses point>

MacKenzieMcHale · 07/08/2022 22:05

I never take mine off, and DH is the same.

toffeechai · 07/08/2022 22:05

I take mine off at night to sleep, and to wash up, shower or do laundry. But not every time I wash my hands.

DH leaves his on 24/7.

Mind you, I suppose the question would work for ANY type of ring that you wear most of the time. Eg something you inherited. I don't really wear rings but I would always take them off for showering/gardening/going to the gym/housework

FluffyPJs · 07/08/2022 22:06

I never take mine off! Occasionally I slide them down my finger a bit to dry underneath them after washing my hands etc, but don't actually take them off.

bloodywhitecat · 07/08/2022 22:07

Leave them on at all times, I can't bring myself to take them off.

RosieRainbow1986 · 07/08/2022 22:07

I never wear my engagement ring to work (I'm a teacher and lots of messy play etc) so don't want it getting dirty/wrecked. But I wear my wedding ring pretty much all the time. I do take it off for a shower, doing the dishes etc and walks in the summer as hand tend to swell in the heat! Hubby wears his all the time apart from showering and dishes!

Simonjt · 07/08/2022 22:08

I only take mine off to play rugby, apart from that I wear it all the time.

Benjaminsniddlegrass · 07/08/2022 22:08

Only time I take my wedding ring off is when I got swimming as I worry it may fall off.

confusedlots · 07/08/2022 22:08

I don't particularly like wearing jewellery so I don't have mine on if I'm at home. I put them on if I'm going out somewhere (not if I was just popping to the shop). I definitely wore them more when I was first married, now I can go a few days without putting them on

Wakemeuuuup · 07/08/2022 22:08

I take mine off at night and put it on after a shower in the morning. I only wear wedding ring when swimming, I leave my engagement ring safely at home

imnotthatkindofmum · 07/08/2022 22:09

I always wore both rings (plus my trilogy and eternity rings) for about 15 years of marriage. But now I have arthritis and my fingers are too swollen so I can't. I lost my trilogy ring too 😭

DH wore his all the time except for sailing until one time he did wear it sailing in France and lost it in the sea 🙄

Outlyingtrout · 07/08/2022 22:09

Well I'm much fatter right now than I was when we got married so they would take some getting off 🙈 But even when I'm not so chubby I leave them on 24/7. I would definitely lose them/drop them down a drain if I kept messing around taking them on and off all the time.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 07/08/2022 22:09

I take all my rings (wedding, engagement and claddagh) off when I have a shower. That’s it though. I had to take mine off permanently for a while because my skin suddenly started reacting to the metal. Hated it! Had to buy new rings in a different metal.

RedCardigan · 07/08/2022 22:10

Take them off when needed for cooking etc, swimming, anything. Didn’t want it to become some weird thing about no taking them off ever until I’m old and fat and sad about it. DH takes his off for work, no biggie. We’re content in the fact we’re not going to suddenly cheat whilst not wearing them/need to socks we’re married 😂

Totally agree, but I’ve never worn rings before, so I have no personal practice/preferences around them. And there isn’t really a consensus amongst my friends.

I used to leave them on all the time but because of work I have to wash my hands a ridiculous amount and no matter how well I dry under them, my finger still gets red and sore under them so I never wear them now.

2Rebecca · 07/08/2022 22:10

I never had an engagement ring as I don't like rings. I used to remove my wedding ring when cycling but now I have hand arthritis so it won't fit despite being stretched any more so it's never worn

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 07/08/2022 22:10

I wear mine all the time and so does DH which surprises me as I never thought he'd take to wearing one.

Bearsan · 07/08/2022 22:11

I take mine off to shower, swim, bake and other messy jobs like gardening/decorating.

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 07/08/2022 22:11

I take mine off to clean them and if doing something risky like swimming.

TheFlis12345 · 07/08/2022 22:12

I take my engagement ring off for washing up, cleaning, kneading bread or anything else that might get gunked up in the diamonds setting. I have never taken my wedding ring off since the moment we got married.

I worry about this, too! Remembering where I’d put them and everything. 😂

Mine only come off if I make pastry - so hardly ever! I've just had to have a new engagement ring, as the claws had worn on mine after 30 years of permanent use. Also my wedding ring has become sharp where it has worn against my engagement ring, so taking them off at home would probably have been sensible.

Thedogscollar · 07/08/2022 22:12

Never take wedding ring off but take engagement and eternity rings off for work, as not allowed to wear.
