To ask if and when you take off your wedding/engagement rings?

This is not an exciting post. 😂

I was engaged for a year and took my engagement ring off whenever I was home. Only put it on when I was leaving the house.

I’ve been married a few weeks and have been doing the same with my wedding ring. I’ve noticed that DH never takes his off, though. I’m contemplating doing the same, but I’m wondering if it’s a ‘thing’.

What do you do? Leave them on all the time? Take them off for cooking? Showers? When you wash your hands?

When we first were engaged I never took my ring off. Then I managed to scratch my face with my engagement ring during the night so took it off for sleeping and left it off for morning shower too and now do the same with both wedding and engagement ring.

I only ever wear my rings when I'm going out of the house.
The first thing I do when I come in is take off my 3 rings & put then in the same place every time.
The last thing I do before I go out thr door is put on my rings

It's a simple system that works for me.
My rings are expensive & there's no way I would want to cook / garden / do housework wearing them.

Dh never ever takes his wedding ring off. Its the only piece of jewellery I've ever seen him wear in 23 years

Anonmousse · 08/08/2022 09:04

I take my engagement ring off for work (I'm a jeweller and I don't want it to get scratched or knocked) but I always keep my wedding band on.

Ejk1990 · 08/08/2022 09:06

Both of us stopped wearing our rings years ago. My husbands doesn't fit anymore, as we were young when we married. And I'm allergic to gold.

I'm not that fussed to be honest. We both know we are married 🤣

Aprilx · 08/08/2022 09:07

I only wear mine when I go out, they are never on at home.

DH wears his ring most of the time. He takes it off if he is baking or cooking something that involves hand mixing. I think he also takes it off before he showers, but he always puts is straight back on.

FrankLampardsBrokenHand · 08/08/2022 09:08

Used to take both rings off for work. Now neither of us really ever wear them.

Pinkbananas01 · 08/08/2022 09:16

I take engagement ring off at night & sometimes when cooking e.g mak8ng meatballs as very messy! Had a couple of years where I couldn't wear either due to swollen hands for long periods, eventually got rings resized & now wearing both again

bellabasset · 08/08/2022 09:19

I have an allergy to metal so have always taken my rings off and my watch, in hot weather especially. I think, especially now people often have diamonds in their wedding bands that they are removed more frequently.

drawacircleroundit · 08/08/2022 09:22

I lost mine 🤣
The laughing emoji is to hide the embarrassment. I still can’t believe I lost them. But it happened because I never wanted them to get dirty with lotions etc so would always take them off.
anyway, I am (rightly) now not allowed expensive ones. I have an £80 ring from Covent Garden market. Which, as I type this, I’m not wearing.

aletterfromseneca · 08/08/2022 09:23

I only take mine off for rock climbing. Wear it for any other sports

ImBoilingJackie · 08/08/2022 09:26

I took my engagement ring off when I was pregnant, as my hands swelled a bit. I left it off when DC was a baby in case scratched them with it. After that I discovered my hands were slimmer than when the ring was fitted and I haven't got round to getting it fixed. DC is now 11.
Have only taken my wedding ring off once, and that was when it got caught up with another ring.

I'm considering getting both plated with white gold, so may have to be bare-handed for a while.

Lulu1919 · 08/08/2022 09:31

Mine are on 24/7 and have been for over 30 years

MaryShelley1818 · 08/08/2022 09:32

Never take mine off but DH only wears his to go out.

CatherinedeBourgh · 08/08/2022 09:35

Never took them off for the first 15 years, then we saw what they were doing to our fingers and took them off for good.

Wouldn't be organised enough to put them on and take them off regularly, I'd lose them all the time, but having them on permanently is not brilliant.

2pinkginsplease · 08/08/2022 09:35

I rarely take mine off, dh takes his off Monday to Friday as he has a manual job and it would be dangerous to wear a ring with what he does. He wears it at the weekend.

Caulidop · 08/08/2022 09:36

I take mine off at night, when I'm doing something messy, or if I'm playing sports. I don't wear my engagement ring all the time as I dont think that it's practical (catches/scratches on things). I'd never worry about taking them off as some have said. I have a place that they live when not on my finger.

blobby10 · 08/08/2022 09:37

Wore both rings daily but took engagement ring off at night until I had children then the engagement ring went into its box and stayed there unless I was dressing up to go out. The prospect of catching a babies face with the side of a ring setting was too awful! Never really put it back on during the day after that although wedding ring tended to stay on 24/7 until I started going to the gym and noticed it was getting pushed out of shape by the weights I was using. When the marriage started going downhill and found exH ring in the drawer, I stopped wearing mine. Two years later we split up and its now in the depths of my wardrobe whilst I decide whether to sell it! The engagement ring is pretty so I don't want to get rid of that especially as kids helped to design an eternity ring around it for my 40th - ironically two years before marriage went downhill!

110APiccadilly · 08/08/2022 09:39

I leave mine on all the time. I used to take them off for swimming in case they got lost, but they're now fairly hard to get over my knuckle so I don't bother any more!

DH wears his all the time except for occasional power tool use when he takes it off for safety reasons.

seven201 · 08/08/2022 09:39

I only take mine off when I'm dying my hair or have to for an operation etc. If I took them off more often I'd definitely lose them! I wore them on a necklace when I was swollen when heavily pregnant.

BeeDavis · 08/08/2022 09:43

I really only wear my engagement/wedding ring when I leave the house and even then I forget sometimes! My husband constantly has his on even for work. I won’t even sleep with mine on!

Phos · 08/08/2022 09:44

I take them off sometimes when doing certain housework, gardening or cooking (like baking where I'm getting my hands dirty) and to clean them if I've put hand cream or something on.

I also take them off at the gym because sometimes find them uncomfortable when lifting weights.

Proudboomer · 08/08/2022 09:45

I never take mine off. I was widowed just over 5 years ago and still wear my rings. My late husband wore his ring everyday never taking it off as well. It came off the day before he died and went on to a chain around my neck where it remains and isn’t taken off either.

TheBikiniExpert · 08/08/2022 09:48

I take my rings off

  • when I'm doing something messy
  • when swimming in the sea
  • when my hands are swollen if it's hot
  • when dh annoys me

He never takes it off.

I lost my engagement ring for 6 months. I can take it off without even realising I'm taking it off!

Minecraftatemychild · 08/08/2022 09:51

I haven’t worn mine for weeks, sinve I out a bit of weight on it feels a bit tight. Anyway.

Don’t wear it when you sleep is my advice to you as one day you’ll get a swollen finger and the darn thing won’t come off.
