To ask if and when you take off your wedding/engagement rings?

This is not an exciting post. 😂

I was engaged for a year and took my engagement ring off whenever I was home. Only put it on when I was leaving the house.

I’ve been married a few weeks and have been doing the same with my wedding ring. I’ve noticed that DH never takes his off, though. I’m contemplating doing the same, but I’m wondering if it’s a ‘thing’.

What do you do? Leave them on all the time? Take them off for cooking? Showers? When you wash your hands?

I take mine off when cleaning and it might get greasy or dirty. I often leave them by the sink.

I wear them out of the house all the time along with my watch which was also a gift from DH. I take my watch of for shower but leave my rings on.

Dh wears his all the time and I'm also surprised by this - never takes it off and swims everyday.

NotMeNoNo · 07/08/2022 22:13

Only take mine off to clean them or for DIY. They are quite a close fit, it would be more hassle to keep prising them on and off, or I would lose them. Don't think there's any rule though.

NanooCov · 07/08/2022 22:13

My skin started to react to my engagement and wedding ring (white gold) so I stopped wearing them and now just wear a doppelgänger palladium wedding band and never take it off.

Husband only takes his wedding ring off if he's doing cold water swimming (triathlons).

StoneofDestiny · 07/08/2022 22:14

Always take them off if I'm at home or going to bed etc, just like any other jewellery, watches etc. Only wear them outside the home.

Change123today · 07/08/2022 22:14

I never wear them in the house - if I’m getting ready in the morning and leaving straight away I’ll put them on ..otherwise they just sit in my box! My husband doesn’t wear a wedding band now but back when he was slimmer he only wore his going to work/out etc

Thatiswild · 07/08/2022 22:14

Never take mine off, I did during pregnancy when my hands swelled a lot and wore them on a necklace but to be honest once I put them back on after the last child, I can’t get them off now due to weight gain.

Sorrynotsorry2 · 07/08/2022 22:15

My dh wears his 24/7 . I take mine off whilst I'm in work. Other than that I don't take them off .

Engagement ring off for gardening, baking, decorating, moving paving slabs or similar.

Wedding ring off once in a blue moon when moving heavy slabs or anything guaranteed to gouge. It’s a plain platinum band so scratches are polished out annually and I don’t have to worry about pave diamonds falling out.

They get a free annual service which means they’re in for at least 48 hours and I really miss them.

My engagement ring is a simple diamond solitaire so again pretty bombproof.

Rings are lost when people take them off, so I reckon the safest place in on my finger. I never remove them in public washrooms for example.

I also like the cost per wear principle and get pleasure from wearing them every day.!

Hotandbothereds · 07/08/2022 22:16

I never wear my wedding ring, I wear my engagement ring when I go out and often wear a ring if my mums, but I only put them on like I would other jewellery.

ohidoliketobe · 07/08/2022 22:17

I don't wear my Engagement and Eternity rings all the time. I don't sleep or shower in them and the solitaire setting of Engagement can catch when getting DCs dressed/ nappy change so intend to just pur them on when leaving the house. Wedding ring isn't taken off, it's a plain band so barely noticeable to wear

MrsTimRiggins · 07/08/2022 22:17

I don’t, as a general rule. I left my engagement ring at home when we went working/travelling NZ/Aus but wore my wedding ring. I don’t really know what the logic was as I did the same manual work there as here, and as I never take it off at home, why would I abroad but 🤷🏼‍♀️

MumUndone · 07/08/2022 22:17

Never, they're nestled into my flab

Auntieobem · 07/08/2022 22:17

I don’t take off my engagement ring. Used to take it off when kneading bread, bit I've put on weight and don't think I could get it off now.

jammiewhammie65 · 07/08/2022 22:18

Never ever take them off I would loose them

KyaClark · 07/08/2022 22:18

I don't wear either anymore.

godmum56 · 07/08/2022 22:21

used to work in the NHS and never wore my engagement ring to work. Stopped wearing wedding ring when MRSA precautions introduced and I found the hand gel gunked up under my ring and I used to take it off for proper hand hygiene and used to forget to pick it up. I never wore mine in the house. DH wore his to work ( management) but not when round the house, motorbiking or dIY and so on as its not safe. Never saw it as a big deal. I wasn't any more or less married because I wore a ring and DH either. I stopped wearing it at all when he died. It seemed like a private thing between him and me so i keep his rings (wedding and signet) and my wedding and engagement rings all put away safely together.

PseudonymPolly · 07/08/2022 22:21

They never come off. I wear them swimming, at the beach, doing gardening, DIY etc.

Hopeislost · 07/08/2022 22:22

I only take my rings off at the gym because rings and barbells don't mix!

disneyyensid · 07/08/2022 22:23

I never take mine on off, nor my husband. I once took them off to apply hand cream, i completely forgot and when I realised I'd lost them I had a big panic - turns out they were down the back of my bed!

I'm far too worried I'd lose them. I don't understand why you'd need to take them off to wash hands and shower?

EllieRosesMammy · 07/08/2022 22:23

I never wear my engagement ring because I'm a chef so it's not allowed at work, and I do so much cleaning and childcare at home that I constantly worry I'm going to rip the stone out or damage the ring 😭😂 plus my fat little fingers retain water a lot and swell up, and I can't stand the idea of things being tight on me

godmum56 · 07/08/2022 22:23

I could not wear tight rings...bit amazed at the people who say they can't get theirs off.

godmum56 · 07/08/2022 22:24

because my fingers stay wet under the rings and odd times it has made me quite sore.

WonderingWanda · 07/08/2022 22:26

At night because my fingers swell up and they hurt. Also when kneeding dough, painting or applying suncream if I remember.

Littleraindrop15 · 07/08/2022 22:27

I hardly wear mines as I work in healthcare setting and wouldn't want my engagement ring getting damaged and 8ve gotten to fat for my wedding band so when I loose weight I will wear it again

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/08/2022 22:27

Leave on all the time
