To ask if and when you take off your wedding/engagement rings?

This is not an exciting post. 😂

I was engaged for a year and took my engagement ring off whenever I was home. Only put it on when I was leaving the house.

I’ve been married a few weeks and have been doing the same with my wedding ring. I’ve noticed that DH never takes his off, though. I’m contemplating doing the same, but I’m wondering if it’s a ‘thing’.

What do you do? Leave them on all the time? Take them off for cooking? Showers? When you wash your hands?

We don't wear ours at all really. I'm not a jewellery type kind of person.

Mustthinkofausername · 07/08/2022 22:52

Rarely wear mine. I hate water getting trapped in the setting which then dries the skin on my finger. I’m also not a big jewellery person. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Most of my friends always wear their rings and rarely take them off.

DH wears his most of the time.

Barbequebeans64 · 07/08/2022 22:52

I can't wear mine at all thanks to severe eczema

Hankunamatata · 07/08/2022 22:54

Took my engagement ring off when got married. Wedding band I dont take off. Dh has never worn his as too dangerous in his line of work - he saw a guys finger get ripped off when ring got caught

CurzonDax · 07/08/2022 22:55

I hardly wear mine. Don't wear them in the house (they are safe in their boxes), and only put them on if I go out (don't bother if just popping to shops etc).

DH and I both WFH, so they're hardly ever on - really no need. Just us and the pets indoors; we both know we're married to each other, and the pets don't care!

Clevs · 07/08/2022 22:56

I've taken both of mine off. I removed my engagement ring because I lost the diamond out of it, then a few years later removed my wedding ring as it was causing dermatitis on my finger.

If it hadn't have been for those problems I wouldn't have removed either.

moiraandthebebe · 07/08/2022 22:57

I never take mine off, neither does DH.

HallieHufflepuff · 07/08/2022 22:58

I only wear my rings when I leave the house or when I have people over at my house.

mamatoTails · 07/08/2022 23:01

Never wear my engagement ring, it belonged to my gran, did to start with but live abroad and fingers swell in the heat sometimes and got fed up with sun cream getting on it, taking it off to swim so just put it away. Never really liked rings! Wedding is next year and I don't think we will even get rings!

Minimalme · 07/08/2022 23:02

I wear all my jewellery all the time.

Which is:

5 x rings
Necklace
3 x silver bangles.
4 x earrings

Usually take my watch off to sleep.

As long as they are a good fit, you check regularly for any loose stones and all the stones are diamond, you should be fine.

Lovetogarden2022 · 07/08/2022 23:03

Never take mine off apart from when I'm having a fake tan 😂

elliesmummy19 · 07/08/2022 23:03

When I’m cooking, washing dishes and bed time.

TwoBlueFish · 07/08/2022 23:03

I take mine off when I shower and when I go bed. Also if I’m doing cooking where I have to get my hands mucky (making bread, etc).

easyday · 07/08/2022 23:05

Never took mine off and neither did my husband. If it's a raised stone maybe while doing the cleaning (mine is not raised).
I've never heard of anyone doing what you do - I'd be terrified of loosing them!

TwinkleToesStrikesAgain · 07/08/2022 23:05

Took mine off when we started increased hand washing in 2020 and I found I enjoy the fresher, lighter feeling of clean hands and hand cream without residual soap or cream left under the rings. Plus mine are both platinum in heavy settings so it's very liberating not wearing them....

buzz91 · 07/08/2022 23:05

I didn’t used to ever take them off but constant hand washing post baby made my eczema flared up so I started just wearing my engagement ring as it was less intricate/likely to get stuff stuck in it - then I got too fat and don’t wear either 😬

Fimilo · 07/08/2022 23:05

I take mine off when home because I am forever washing my hands after changing the babies nappy etc. I don't wear it to bed, in the shower or doing dishes. Only wear them if I am going out

TwoBlueFish · 07/08/2022 23:06

DH doesn’t do jewellery so doesn’t wear one at all.

I6344 · 07/08/2022 23:06

I never wear my engagement ring or wedding ring except if we're going out for the day. Find them too uncomfortable to wear all the time

Thewayshetalks · 07/08/2022 23:07

Don’t wear mine anymore, nor does my husband, I used to think it was a big issue but then realised it wasn’t (for us anyway)

WhatIsModeration · 07/08/2022 23:08

I took mine off when I was pregnant the first time and my hands swelled. Never been able to get them back on comfortably. DH takes his off to shower and then it's right back on again.

Glumgal · 07/08/2022 23:09

I actually lost mine about 15 years ago. Suspect I could have left them in a holiday let when I'd taken them off to do the dishes but didn't actually notice at the time. I now wear my late Grandma's ring in place of mine and rarely ever take it off.

Purplebunnie · 07/08/2022 23:10

Took wedding ring off for years as had put on weight and it was cutting into my finger. Lost some weight and wearing again. Engagement ring and other rings only go on when going out somewhere.

bubblicious3 · 07/08/2022 23:11

Been married 20 years, never taken them off. Was supposed to when pregnant with son 2 but left it too late, and they're stuck now. Ah well.

DelilahBucket · 07/08/2022 23:14

At first I used to take my engagement ring off constantly, always afraid of damaging it. Now I take them off for a shower (mostly because my engagement ring sounds round when I have wet hands and then gets caught in my hair or hurts me) and then when I'm moisturising my hands before bed. I also remove them if I'm doing messy cooking like making meatballs. Other than that they stay on. They are platinum so really hard wearing. I would probably feel differently if they were gold.
