To ask if and when you take off your wedding/engagement rings?

This is not an exciting post. 😂

I was engaged for a year and took my engagement ring off whenever I was home. Only put it on when I was leaving the house.

I’ve been married a few weeks and have been doing the same with my wedding ring. I’ve noticed that DH never takes his off, though. I’m contemplating doing the same, but I’m wondering if it’s a ‘thing’.

What do you do? Leave them on all the time? Take them off for cooking? Showers? When you wash your hands?

I never used to take mine off until finger began to get sore in a job where I constantly washed hands. Had to stop wearing then for a few weeks and never put them back on except for special occasions. I don't wear any other Jewellery thought so maybe would be different if I did

For the people who take them off...(I'm going to sound really daft here!) were you not superstitious about taking them off after your DH had put them on your finger the day you got married? I always thought that your husband put the ring on your finger during the vows and then ....that was it. I think I'd feel like if I took it off then the vows were, I don't know, null? See, I said I'd sound daft!!

I often take mine off if it is very hot and my hands are swelling; makes it too uncomfortable to sleep. I did that once in front of a group of people, a couple of whom were totally shocked because they believed very strongly that this would do terrible things to my marriage. Maybe they had inside knowledge, as they were both divorced. 🤔🙄

My engagement ring is too big now so it lives in my parent safe. I'm not where I want to be weight wise yet so not point in resizing it. I wear a cheap Pandora ring there instead as I don't like how my hand feels without the ring there (same on my other hand too, it's not because it's an engagement ring and I'm all full of the feels haha, I'm just so used to wearing rings that my hands feel empty without them on particular fingers) I never take those off.

Wilburisagirl · 08/08/2022 03:41

I only ever wear mine when I go out. Sometimes I don't put them on eg for school drop off etc. I enjoy wearing jewellery for special occasions, but having grown up on a farm I never got used to wearing it all the time, then with young children i was always worried I'd scratch them.

diamondpony80 · 08/08/2022 06:31

I never wear mine as I'm not really into rings. DH doesn't either as he lifts weights nearly every day and damaged his first one after forgetting to take it off.

Treabrea · 08/08/2022 06:46

Wedding ring stays on at all times apart from when I've been pregnant and my hands ballooned. It's only a very thin plain band.

Engagement ring got taken off in first pregnancy and now lives in a drawer.

MirandaWest · 08/08/2022 06:50

I don’t take my wedding ring off. I take my engagement ring off when I make mince pie pastry so not very often.

Fairislefandango · 08/08/2022 06:51

I only take mine off if I'm doing particularly messy or hands-on cooking, or if I'm decorating.

Piglet89 · 08/08/2022 06:53

take them off for housework, showering, playing cricket…I have a little cat tree thing where you put them on its tail in the kitchen behind the sink so i
know where they are when cleaning. Put them in back zippy pouch of my leggings at cricket. On beside table when showering.

sunsetsandsandybeaches · 08/08/2022 07:09

I've been married almost four years and have never taken either ring off.

Whoopsies · 08/08/2022 07:10

I hardly wear mine. They just annoy me, I only put them on if I'm going somewhere significant. I have a different wedding ring DH bought me in a museum for 50p that I wear more! I'm not very sentimental about them at all, I am very happily married though!

Pyewhacket · 08/08/2022 07:16

Every time I go to work.

bcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyza · 08/08/2022 07:20

I take my engagement ring off but my wedding ring doesn't come off. It may come off when baking but apart from that never.

The jeweller that we got our rings from said the safest place for them is on the finger.

I understand for certain work places they need to be taken off.

ColettesEarrings · 08/08/2022 07:22

Neither of us on 20 years of marriage have ever taken our rings off. Mine is a vintage 1920s 22c plain band, his is a 1930s 22c band and despite the content neither are dented, scratched etc after all these years. I also don't remove my engagement or eternity rings either, a good scrub with a toothbrush every now and again works perfectly well.

Astitch · 08/08/2022 07:23

I'm married but I don't have a wedding ring, but I have my engagement ring on 24/7.

ColettesEarrings · 08/08/2022 07:23

I've also never taken my mum's wedding ring off in the thirty years I've had it, I wear it on my right hand. It's also 22c and still looks great.

ColettesEarrings · 08/08/2022 07:28

Actually I've just realised I did take all my rings off when pregnant with ds2 when I started putting on shocking amounts of weight really quickly. Wedding ring went on my necklace, and engagement, eternity and mums wedding ring went in a box in my night stand. Was about four months in the end.

McPie · 08/08/2022 08:17

I very rarely have mine on these days! I'm a sports therapist so I have to take mine off everytime I treat someone, when I'm do pitchside 1st aid (so every Saturday football season) and when I go for a walk or exercise as my hands get swolen. I stopped taking them to games as I've almost lost my wedding ring twice, luckily someone noticed it fall out my pocket each time. Dh doesn't take his off as he can't any more.

Thestoppedfan · 08/08/2022 08:21

I take mine off when I lift weights at the gym. I’ve bought a little leather pouch that I put them in on my key ring.

ABlindAssassin · 08/08/2022 08:22

StoneofDestiny · 07/08/2022 22:14

Always take them off if I'm at home or going to bed etc, just like any other jewellery, watches etc. Only wear them outside the home.

Same. I take them off as soon as I get in the house!

Sleepyteach · 08/08/2022 08:24

My fingers swell up in hot weather so I took mine off before I went on holiday at the start of July and I’ll probably put them back on in September! I damaged my engagement ring and lost one of the stones earlier in the year and since it’s been repaired and the claws built back up it feels huge and catches on everything which also makes me less keen to wear it!

ScampiFlies · 08/08/2022 08:28

I take mine off at night and when I'm in the shower but otherwise it's on. It was only £17 so I might have to replace it at some point. Dh wears his all the time.

Shoxfordian · 08/08/2022 08:44

I take my engagement ring off at night and usually wear it but don’t always wear it

I always wear my wedding ring

PolishingCandles · 08/08/2022 08:46

I only take mine off if I'm doing something that may damage them, or cause them to be lost.
Such as decorating and gardening.

ILikeHotWaterBottles · 08/08/2022 08:49

I'm terrible for not wearing mine, I forget! I take them off to go to the gym as my fingers swell up and it hurts, I take them off to go to the stables so I don't get them dirty or damaged, take them off if I'm cleaning, and I just never remember to put the bloody things back on. They do also sometimes cause eczema and I then get told off for putting them on. 😂 I am going to put them on the necklace I wear, least they are with me then in some way.
