To ask if and when you take off your wedding/engagement rings?

This is not an exciting post. 😂

I was engaged for a year and took my engagement ring off whenever I was home. Only put it on when I was leaving the house.

I’ve been married a few weeks and have been doing the same with my wedding ring. I’ve noticed that DH never takes his off, though. I’m contemplating doing the same, but I’m wondering if it’s a ‘thing’.

What do you do? Leave them on all the time? Take them off for cooking? Showers? When you wash your hands?

Took mine off when my fingers got to fat to wear them 😅

Origamiheaven · 07/08/2022 22:28

Gardening

BeeandG · 07/08/2022 22:28

Mine stay on. I took my engagement ring off for surgery recently but that's it. I like wearing them.

littlepeas · 07/08/2022 22:28

I wear mine day and night, in the house and out of it, but do take them off for hours at a time for piano practise and often when I'm cleaning as well. I would take them off for swimming, but I don't do that very often. Dh only takes his off for swimming.

LittleGreenBeetle · 07/08/2022 22:30

I never take my wedding ring off. I only take my engagement ring off if I'm doing something really messy - gardening, making crumble etc.

toomuchlaundry · 07/08/2022 22:32

Never take my wedding ring off, it is a simple gold band. I never wear my engagement ring in bed or when having a shower. Also take off when gardening, baking etc.

Thepollonator · 07/08/2022 22:32

I never ever take off my wedding/engagement rings!

soupmaker · 07/08/2022 22:32

They come off when making pizza dough. And when my fingers swell in heat.

asdfff · 07/08/2022 22:37

I never take mine off. Unless I'm drying my hair and they become hotter than the cut face of the sun.

EasterIssland · 07/08/2022 22:38

I never wear mine … think I took it off when I got pregnant cuz of swelling and never put it back

asdfff · 07/08/2022 22:38

DH wears his wedding band all the time. I am guilty of not wearing either engagement ring or wedding ring unless we go out in evening. My fingers swell so they feel tight but I do feel guilty because engagement ring was so expensive and I know DH would love me to wear both rings all the time. I have had engagement ring stretched once already.

Wavygravy1 · 07/08/2022 22:40

Never take mine off, neither does DH

uhtredbebbanburg · 07/08/2022 22:40

Only when I make meatballs!

hangrylady · 07/08/2022 22:41

I take mine off when doing messy cooking, eg rolling meatballs, painting and applying suncream but other than that they stay on or I'd end up losing them. DH takes his off to play football as he knows someone who broke his finger and it swelled around his wedding ring and it had to be cut off.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 07/08/2022 22:42

I hardly ever wear mine due to a combo of swimming, rowing and seeing degloved fingers on farm gates.
It's just for special occasions, but I'm not really a jewellery person anyway.

WitchSharkadder · 07/08/2022 22:42

I never had an engagement ring. I took my wedding ring off on my wedding night and I've never put it back on. 15 years later and still happily married but I don't need a symbol of ownership.

supperlover · 07/08/2022 22:43

I've been married for nearly 52 years (I know I'm really a gransnetter but enjoy mumsnet ) and I have never taken my wedding ring off apart from when I was first married and was an operating theatre nurse as we had to take rings off if scrubbed for an operation. I don't think any of my friends ever take them off either. Is it a generational thing? My husband has never worn a wedding ring and my married daughter and her husband don't wear them either.

Skinterior · 07/08/2022 22:44

Take them off to clean them, that's it

Calmdown14 · 07/08/2022 22:44

I'm not a jewellery person. Have always removed everything when getting in house.

I didn't bother with an engagement ring as knew it would be a waste though I do have a special ring. Haven't worn that or my wedding ring for about a decade bar going out for special occasions (and there haven't been that many of those!)

My husband wore his for the ceremony and that was it. We got him the thinnest gold as knew it was never going to be compatible with his job.

Basically do whatever you feel most comfortable with

Aria2015 · 07/08/2022 22:44

I haven't worn mine since I was last pregnant two years ago. I just got out the habit. I keep meaning to get back in the habit but I still haven't. My dh has never taken his off.

maddy68 · 07/08/2022 22:44

My wedding ring stays on. I rarely ever wear my engagement ring

redandwhite1 · 07/08/2022 22:45

I used to take them off every night but the last 3 years maybe I haven't (married 10) unsure why all of a sudden i did this

I always take them off when I wash my hair as they get caught and also when I cream myself!

HaveYouAnyDreamYoudLikeToSell · 07/08/2022 22:45

I took my engagement ring off 2 years after our wedding when I got all bloaty and pregnant, never put it back on again
The wedding ring followed a few years after......doesn't mean anything to me....it's just a piece of jewellery!

Thehop · 07/08/2022 22:46

Husband wears his all the time, I hardly ever wear mine
