To take it back, people do need the obvious pointing out to them in the heat

I’ve been thinking it’s all a bit Over the top, the heat fuss.

But no, some idiot at 3:20 pm walked their medium size dog pass my house (London, hot hot). Dog was very reluctant and she was totally confused as to why, pulling the lead.

My kids beat me too it,
12 yr old ‘it’s too hot for dogs! What are you doing!’
6 yr old ‘the pavement will burn his feet’

I mean a fucking 6 yr old, not dog owning or even having spoken about dogs and heat, and look and assess the situation.

I despair.

btw I left my dog owning scary neighbour to descend with full annoyance and resolve the stupidity.

Yup - I went to a beer garden this morning and sat in the shade with a sparkling water.

SO SO many people sat in full sun, in jeans(?!) drinking pints

BlackeyedSusan · 18/07/2022 15:53

I have one rather closer to home than I admit.

BlackeyedSusan · 18/07/2022 15:54

And it's bloody hard to keep them safe when they think they know best.

neverbeenskiing · 18/07/2022 16:03

YANBU. I have seen several prams with muslins draped over them today and pre-school age children with no hats on.

Hotenoughtoburnasausage · 18/07/2022 16:07

Just seen our usually sensible neighbour dragging her huge hairy border collie along our street...
I have put a huge parasol out for my ddogs to lie under! And they have cool towels and cool mats. Currently rotating who's turn it is very patiently!

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 18/07/2022 16:07

What did the person say after being scolded by 2 children?

RainCoffeeBook · 18/07/2022 16:08

People don't care. They want to get sunburned. They still think sun is 'nice for kids' and suntans are 'healthy'. My mum sneers at my kids for 'looking like they never go outside' and pointing out that if you don't have a deep tan 'then no one will know you've been on holiday, so what's the point in going?"

LauraChant · 18/07/2022 16:09

I just saw someone out jogging...at least I assume that is what they were doing, running along in sports gear with a bottle of water, I suppose they could have just been running to get somewhere quickly and happened to be wearing sports shorts and top. Still pretty hot to run whatever the reason!

RagzRebooted · 18/07/2022 16:10

I've had to explain to half the staff here that opening windows when it's hotter outside just let's the hot in. I keep closing them, people keep opening them...
Basic, but apparently not obvious.

Nothing as scary neighbour flung her door open and stormed out. Actually picked up the dog.
Hustled the kids away and left her to it

I'm surprised you've only encountered one stupid person today.

I had 18 kids in my class today age 5 and 6 so still very small but 10 of them had parents who didn't think it necessary to send them to school with a water bottle. A situation replicated in many other classrooms in the same school and up and down the country I suspect.

Soubriquet · 18/07/2022 16:19

Some people are idiots. There was an article yesterday about the police breaking into a cat to get a dog out.

This is still happening!!!

ZooMount · 18/07/2022 16:20

I agree with the dog walking on pavements as that will damage their paws, but if people want to go running or sitting out in the sun in this heat that's their business surely? Each to their own!

Exactly. Those of us who are blessed with more than two brain cells assume everyone else is the same. Alas, they are not.

I was amazed to see someone running up the hill this morning as I can't do that in normal temperatures, although it's possible they were running for a train as the station is at the top of the hill.

How did the cat feel about it!😹

Seriously though, it's unbelievable. Surely even in normal times most people know not to leave dogs in cars?

Wingedharpy · 18/07/2022 16:27

That's one brave pussy @Soubriquet !

Common sense is so rare it should be considered a superpower.

hennybeans · 18/07/2022 16:28

Dd has gone on a school trip to London today. School just posted a photo of them all and more than half are wearing jeans. I know... teens, what can you do, but seriously.

I went out to collect ds from school activity at 2pm today, 36 degrees outside, and nearly every house had at least some windows open. Lots of houses had all the upstairs windows open. It's going to be a hot night for a lot of people around here.

riesenrad · 18/07/2022 16:29

Well I am being hypocritical because I went out myself (had to walk into town to post a birthday card as the boxes nearest to me won't get collected until tomorrow) but I was amazed at how many people were out at lunchtime, and some were obviously just out for a walk. No dog walking though, thank goodness.

And there was an obligatory person arriving for the school pick up 45 mins early and leaving their engine running for the aircon Angry

Well done to your kids OP - they said it like it is!

it will be even hotter with the windows closed. You still need air in. I have got the upstairs curtains closed though.

emmetgirl · 18/07/2022 16:30

I've always said that most people are stupid and pretty much every day I'm proved right. Today is clearly no exception.
