I LOVE my engagement ring - but worried it looks tacky?

My (for now) BF let me pick my engagement ring. Would’ve spent up to £100 on it but I knew he wasn’t having the best time financially and we have other priorities (our 1 year old, a house, car payments etc). I follow a company on Instagram and the rings she has are all cubic zirconia and sterling silver for £40-£60. Mine was in the £40 range but is BEAUTIFUL. Her rings don’t rust or turn fingers green and are really sparkly. It’s much bigger in person than the pictures made it look which is my concern … don’t want to look like a wannabe WAG (my boyfriend dies football and worried his group might say something! Or the girlfriends from the group!)

Be honest with me - if you saw this on a lady would you think it looked cheap, tacky? What would your thoughts be. And don’t say it shouldn’t matter! It doesn’t to me but want to prepare myself for what others might say to me! I love him and don’t care how much it costs.

It’s a lovely ring and unless you really knew about diamonds/stones, I don’t think the average person would have a clue if it were real or not.

Animallover87 · 31/05/2022 20:27

It's beautiful, congratulations!

Octomore · 31/05/2022 20:28

It's never occurred to me to comment on anyone's engagement ring, for good or bad. I certainly wouldn't accuse someone of being a WAG on the basis of their ring!

Yes, it's big-ish, but it's perfectly fine and you like it. What does it look like on your finger?

Rattysparklebum · 31/05/2022 20:28

It looks fine to me, everyone has such personal taste in jewellery I don’t think it matters if it’s not the same as other people might choose, you both sound really sensible about getting your priorities right and I think it shows a strong relationship that you don’t need to equate love with money.

ScarlettDarling · 31/05/2022 20:28

It’s lovely. Let us see a pic of it on your finger to get a proper idea of how it looks on you.

picklemewalnuts · 31/05/2022 20:29

I think because of the size of the stone I'd know it was costume jewellery rather than diamonds- but that's all I'd think. It's a beautiful ring, and I'd admire it. If it's worn on the engagement finger, then it's an engagement ring.

Zippidy123 · 31/05/2022 20:29

It's beautiful but I think the size of the stone gives away the fact that it's not a diamond which absolutely doesn't matter but if you want people to think it is then I'd go for something smaller.

Missgemini · 31/05/2022 20:29

Such a lovely ring! I would never have guessed the price. I have friends that have similar rings and I think it’s gorgeous :)

Tinkletoetots · 31/05/2022 20:30

Beautiful!

SabrePrattler · 31/05/2022 20:30

Obv if you love it that's the main thing. I wouldn't think it looked cheap and tacky, but I would probably assume it was cubic zirconia as I'd guess a real diamond that size would cost mega wonga. Does it feel solid? I'd wonder how durable a £40 'big fake diamond' ring would be.

Purplecatshopaholic · 31/05/2022 20:30

It’s lovely! Let’s see a pic of it on you, op

SlashBeef · 31/05/2022 20:30

It's pretty but I would probably assume it was CZ. The stone is so big that if it were real you'd be a Kardashian or something.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 31/05/2022 20:31

It's lovely! Don't think it's tacky at all.

Antarcticant · 31/05/2022 20:31

I really like it.

abblie · 31/05/2022 20:31

Doesn't matter what the price is as long as your happy and love it its all that matters

Mally100 · 31/05/2022 20:31

If it's too big then I would think it isn't real.

LampLighter414 · 31/05/2022 20:31

It’s not for me

Thedogscollar · 31/05/2022 20:32

@princesspollysmum
It's a beautiful ring not tacky at all. Get it on your finger lovely. Show it off and be proud.

AngelinaFangelina · 31/05/2022 20:32

You love it and that's all that matters. Congratulations! It's not the price, it's the feeling. My engagement and wedding rings were cheap, we were young and broke. We could have replaced them with something more pricey but I would never want to. They mean so much to me and when I look at them I remember so many good times. Thousands of pounds of diamonds can never replace that feeling.

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 31/05/2022 20:33

My engagement ring is the same as that but it’s real and was 13k.

so no I don’t think it’s tacky looking at all! It also doesn’t look fake (in the pic).

justasking111 · 31/05/2022 20:34

An engagement ring is a promise whether a gem or a piece of glass. It's beautiful. Congratulations

LadyLothbrook · 31/05/2022 20:34

Its lovely and I'd be proud to wear it. There's nothing wrong with being safe with money. My engagement ring was around £100 and I adored it.

LucyLeaseExtension · 31/05/2022 20:35

We need to see it on,

It doesn't look bling. I'm pretty clueless about diamonds/settings etc, but I'd be pretty sure it was 'costume' jewellery', but I wouldn't think anything of that other than 'sensible choice' (with a baby & being young)

it certainly doesn't look bling enough to get jibes from the 'footballers wives club'

just be happy & stop worrying x

DonnaRhea · 31/05/2022 20:35

Very pretty! I really like it

PurpleButterflyWings · 31/05/2022 20:35

Does look like a dress ring rather than an engagement ring IMO. But it's a nice ring!

What do you mean your 'boyfriend for now' though @princesspollysmum ??
