I LOVE my engagement ring - but worried it looks tacky?

My (for now) BF let me pick my engagement ring. Would’ve spent up to £100 on it but I knew he wasn’t having the best time financially and we have other priorities (our 1 year old, a house, car payments etc). I follow a company on Instagram and the rings she has are all cubic zirconia and sterling silver for £40-£60. Mine was in the £40 range but is BEAUTIFUL. Her rings don’t rust or turn fingers green and are really sparkly. It’s much bigger in person than the pictures made it look which is my concern … don’t want to look like a wannabe WAG (my boyfriend dies football and worried his group might say something! Or the girlfriends from the group!)

Be honest with me - if you saw this on a lady would you think it looked cheap, tacky? What would your thoughts be. And don’t say it shouldn’t matter! It doesn’t to me but want to prepare myself for what others might say to me! I love him and don’t care how much it costs.

it would never occur to me that it wasn't "real" it's very pretty, clean lines and not overly blingy.
Don't think tacky at all-a lovely ring and you can enjoy it all the better because you stayed in budget.
Congrats

honeynougat · 31/05/2022 20:55

Not tacky at all OP. Congratulations! Would you mind sharing the name of the seller please?

Readtheroom · 31/05/2022 20:55

you could have bought an old ring off of eBay or something

ExcitedRabbit · 31/05/2022 20:55

I have been looking at engagement rings a lot recently and I agree with pp that most people would assume it wasn’t real because of how expensive a diamond of that size would cost. If I were you I might have gone for something cheap and real such as sea glass rather than emulating a diamond but it doesn’t really matter what I think as long as you love it and you want to get married. You may also find it doesn’t stand the text of time (I have concerns about this and dp is spending around £700).

BMWqueen · 31/05/2022 20:56

I love them big square style ring… it’s beautiful I think I’m going to get myself one

ArtVandalay · 31/05/2022 20:56

What does it matter as long as you like it?

gianaInfertilitySucks · 31/05/2022 20:57

I like the ring, and personally I like big rings. If it's as big as you say, I'd understand that it's not a real diamond but that's it. why would it matter?

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 31/05/2022 20:58

FlissyPaps · 31/05/2022 20:51

My engagement ring is the same as that but it’s real and was 13k.

Congratulations. 😅

OP - it’s a beautiful ring. The main thing is, is that you’re happy. Who cares how much it costs, or what stone it is. You can’t put a price on love or happiness.

🤦🏻‍♀️ I don’t know why I felt the need to share that tbh but I felt like it was relevant at the time 😂

Pandapanic · 31/05/2022 20:58

It’s lovely! Echo what others say though that if you want ppl to think it a diamond then People may wonder how on earth u afforded it and ask awkward questions!!
I real a book about blood diamonds and read up about the diamond industry being so controlled so knew I definitely did not want a diamond BUT i love the look of massive diamonds!!a dilemma. So I researched like crazy ended up with a man made moissanite set from a company called mossianteco in USA, not one person has ever asked me or made comments about if was a diamond or not. I would tell someone if they asked but never comes up so I’m 100% of the opinion of get the ring u like and are happy with and don’t be worried what people think!!

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 31/05/2022 20:59

Can we see it on?

motherofcatsandbears · 31/05/2022 20:59

It’s absolutely beautiful. People don’t have to know it’s CZ.
Congratulations to you both ❤️

Does look like a dress ring rather than an engagement ring IMO. But it's a nice ring!

What do you mean your 'boyfriend for now' though @princesspollysmum ??

Because he's going to be her husband.

limitededitionbarbie · 31/05/2022 21:02

Op o have bought bits and pieces from here

Mashinga · 31/05/2022 21:02

It’s lovely. The only reason “cheap” rings sometimes look tacky is because they get dirty and tarnish easier, and people don’t bother to clean them. That doesn’t happen so much with expensive rings because the materials are more tarnish resistant. So you’ll probably need to wash it regularly in soapy water and get a silver cleaning cloth to remove any tarnish. I would also take it off for any dirty jobs.

limitededitionbarbie · 31/05/2022 21:02

Your ring is beautiful though xx

Why2why · 31/05/2022 21:03

picklemewalnuts · 31/05/2022 20:29

I think because of the size of the stone I'd know it was costume jewellery rather than diamonds- but that's all I'd think. It's a beautiful ring, and I'd admire it. If it's worn on the engagement finger, then it's an engagement ring.

Agree and diamonds sparkle - different shards of colours bounce around in the light.

It looks nice. I would not think it’s tacky. It’s your ring. Enjoy it and rock it :)😀

Luredbyapomegranate · 31/05/2022 21:03

A picture on your finger would give a better idea.

I probably wouldn’t register it at all, but if I did, then yes it does look like a dress ring rather than real, but it’s cute. The size is slightly Disney - but nowt wrong with that if you like it- If you wanted something that could pass for real, then much smaller with a plain setting would be better - but that might not do it for you.

Rosiestraws · 31/05/2022 21:05

Am I the only one who thinks this is a troll/ad of someone trying to sell the ring/advertise where it is from?! Maybe I'm just too suspicious...!!

Assuming it's a genuine post, I would echo the other posters who have said I would know that it wasn't real diamonds etc from the size etc and it's not to my taste, but the important thing is if you love it!

EggRollsForever · 31/05/2022 21:06

Being honest ( and a diamond lover) I would immediately assume it is CZ but it is hard to see in the photo. Does that matter to you ? Can MN please fix this tiny photo issue?

HardTimesHarder · 31/05/2022 21:07

I wouldn’t think anything much about it. I’d know it wasn’t diamond but it’s still an engagement ring

Fenella123 · 31/05/2022 21:08

I think it's attractive OP, and at that price you can afford to buy a backup in a year or two when your LO gets to the stage of flushing everything down the loo

CHiSOCG · 31/05/2022 21:08

It’s lovely and like PP have said if it was real (dependant on the colour, cut, clarity etc of the stone) I think looking at the photo it could range from £12k- to about £25k (possibly more!).

enjoy and congrats!!

HarrietSchulenberg · 31/05/2022 21:08

It's really lovely and, speaking as someone whose engagement ring was perfect and cost just £10 (25 years ago), the amount spent really is not important.

Howshouldibehave · 31/05/2022 21:08

It’s much bigger in person than the pictures made it look which is my concern

What does it look like on your finger? Can you post a photo?

As long as you’re not telling people it’s a real diamond, as long as you like it, it doesn’t matter.

Lesina · 31/05/2022 21:09

It’s really pretty and you love it ( and him) so wear it with pride. Let’s face it, all gemstones are just glittery stones. It’s a lovely ring. Congratulations 🎉
