I LOVE my engagement ring - but worried it looks tacky?

My (for now) BF let me pick my engagement ring. Would’ve spent up to £100 on it but I knew he wasn’t having the best time financially and we have other priorities (our 1 year old, a house, car payments etc). I follow a company on Instagram and the rings she has are all cubic zirconia and sterling silver for £40-£60. Mine was in the £40 range but is BEAUTIFUL. Her rings don’t rust or turn fingers green and are really sparkly. It’s much bigger in person than the pictures made it look which is my concern … don’t want to look like a wannabe WAG (my boyfriend dies football and worried his group might say something! Or the girlfriends from the group!)

Be honest with me - if you saw this on a lady would you think it looked cheap, tacky? What would your thoughts be. And don’t say it shouldn’t matter! It doesn’t to me but want to prepare myself for what others might say to me! I love him and don’t care how much it costs.

My engagement ring is the same as that but it’s real and was 13k.

so no I don’t think it’s tacky looking at all! It also doesn’t look fake (in the pic).

...erm... ok?

quietnightmare · 31/05/2022 21:32

Stunning 🤩

I love it. Can you pm me the company please? I want one

Me too.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 31/05/2022 21:33

I like it!!

Trafficjamlog · 31/05/2022 21:33

I think it’s stunning. I wouldn’t assume it was fake. Most people I know have rings like that, in my opinion a diamond can never be too big. Mine was 1.5ct and had the halo like rhat. All I knew was I didn’t want something small and delicate

SundayTeatime · 31/05/2022 21:34

It’s fine. It is obviously not diamond, but I see that as a good thing. Diamonds are terrible things, in the main. I don’t know how people wear them with a clear conscience. Costume jewellery can be nice. Personally, I think it would be better if it didn’t look like a diamond, but that’s just me. It’s a bit like fur and fake fur. The fake is much more socially acceptable.

It’s lovely and I think it’s lovely and sweet you went for something that isn’t stupidly expensive. My DH and I did the same. My only comment would be would you worry about it getting caught on something - I say that as someone who can’t wear bigger rings as they hurt my knuckles 😂🙈

Same! I have to wear very low profile rings these days, as they hurt if caught on stuff.

PrivateHall · 31/05/2022 21:36

I absolutely love it op! Congratulations.

Arnaquer · 31/05/2022 21:38

Its a very pretty ring and not tacky at all. I wouldn't know if it was a real diamond or not.
I think it current times you are being sensible to buy a ring at that price if you can't afford more. Maybe in years to come you will get to upgrade to the real deal! Congratulations to you.

DisforDarkChocolate · 31/05/2022 21:40

It's very pretty. Congratulations.

ErickBroch · 31/05/2022 21:41

I would assume CZ but that doesn't matter and I wouldn't think any different of anyone if it was! I don't think many people would care at all even to think about it. As long as you love it Flowers all that matters. It's what it means.

RunningFromInsanity · 31/05/2022 21:46

I don’t think I’ve ever really cared about someone else’s engagement ring. I just glance and say it’s beautiful.

newusername2009 · 31/05/2022 21:46

If you like it that’s all that matters. I had a few comments on my ring because it is so small but really don’t care because I like it

Workquestion12 · 31/05/2022 21:46

What’s the name of the company? I’d like to buy one!

me4real · 31/05/2022 21:48

I have a 'daimonique' ring from QVC somewhere which is really lovely. If someone works in jewelery they might be able to tell, but otherwise probably not.

I don't like the shape of your one, but that's personal preference.

If someone slags off your ring to your face they're just a rude person really.

SarahSissions · 31/05/2022 21:53

Congratulations! It looks pretty

honeyfox · 31/05/2022 21:55

I think it's gorgeous, the main thing is that you love it!

Binksnpinkies · 31/05/2022 22:08

Retail jeweller here. You can buy similar from a company called Cavendish French, easily found on Google, really lovely quality cz silver dress rings (for those who were asking).
OP, you’ll need to take care of it to keep it looking nice. Silver is a soft metal, so claws holding stones can easily bend, break or wear away. Take it off at night, don’t bathe in it or do anything “manual” (housework, gardening, exercise etc). Try not to wear it every day. I’m sure I will get the “jewellery is meant to be worn!” Brigade shouting at me but I can only advise you from nearly 20 years experience in the trade how best to look after your ring. Every so often, give it a soak in warm soapy water and a brush with an old soft toothbrush. Rinse, dry then buff with a silver cloth x

Sceptre86 · 31/05/2022 22:10

It's totally my style, I love it. My engagement ring is based off a costume ring I had when I was younger ( diamond isn't as big as the cubic zirconia but same style). I can tell its not real though, it very much looks like costume jewellery. I don't see that as an issue though, it's gorgeous regardless.

AlopeciaStrong · 31/05/2022 22:11

@princesspollysmum I think it’s beautiful. A friend has one just like it, I’ve always thought it is lovely and have no idea if it’s expensive or not.

Manekinek0 · 31/05/2022 22:12

I love it! Congratulations.

I have a secondhand artdeco style ring that cost about £150. It is quite a marmite style but I love it.

My brother bought his wife an expensive diamond ring and the stone fell out whilst they were on holiday. She now wears a CZ ring because she can't bare the thought of it happening again.

LondonQueen · 31/05/2022 22:12

I looked at the photo before the price and thought it was a lot more expensive. Don't get me wrong it doesn't look mega expensive but it's a respectable look. I'm sure you will look beautiful with it.

Good for you getting that humble brag in 🙄 Mine was also 'real', I'm assuming you mean real
diamonds as opposed to a real ring as the OPs ring is clearly 'real' too?! Mine was a similar price to yours, but a much smaller stone so I must presumably have a better 'real' diamond- does that make you feel better? No? You can just say its a lovely ring and looks like the real deal without mentioning the astronomical price of yours, knowing it cost so much more than the OPs or most other peoples. It's vulgar. Why not say mine is diamond and looks the same so fantastic choice, without adding your price tag

BritInUS1 · 31/05/2022 22:19

If you like to that's all that matters

Who cares what everyone else thinks x

Mrsmch123 · 31/05/2022 22:20

Honestly no one cares😂they will look and say awww that's lovely. Then move on to some other chat. I have no clue how much my friends spent on their engagement rings. They all look the same...I'm sure some were wayyyyy more expensive than others but as long as you love it then it doesn't matter.
