To be conflicted over DH's hair

DH has always been a bit shit at getting his hair cut and will happily go 6 months between cuts. This has never bothered me but lockdown saw him go over 2 years without a cut so he ended up with shoulder-length hair tied up in a scruffy man-bun.

Finally I'd had enough of it so I made him an appointment with my hairdresser, Jo. I told her that he wanted to keep some of the length but I wanted it too short to tie in a bun. Apart from that she could use her imagination.

She gave him a Bob! A full on, stacked A-line bob with a high crown, side-swept fringe and points that curled under his chin. It would look really cute on a woman but on a man? Anyway, he likes it, Jo explained that she followed the brief (a bit of a stretch IMO) and DD styles it for him to keep it at max bouncy cuteness.

He even went back to Jo last week to get it cut again as she had told him that it needs to be cut every 6 weeks to keep its shape.

So I'm conflicted. On one hand, it's his hair, he, DD and friends who have commented seem to like it and I have to accept that it's neat and tidy and does sort of suit him. On the other hand, it's a bloody bob!

There is only 'on one hand it's his hair' though. Because it is his hair!

Everybody else likes it so you are doomed.

melissasummerfield · 21/05/2022 11:32

Is your DH six? This is when i stopped giving third party instructions to hairdressers for my dc, so why do you think you need to do it for a grown man is beyond me.

JaninaDuszejko · 21/05/2022 11:33

As long as it is clean and he gets it cut regularly it's really up to him.

Hunderland · 21/05/2022 11:33

Do you have a photo? Trying to imagine this...

Blossomtoes · 21/05/2022 11:34

What do you think you’re doing giving instructions on how his hair’s cut? Just mind your own business, it’s nothing to do with you. Hopefully you’ve now learnt your lesson. I bet he and Jo cooked this up between them to do just that.

Holidayroundthecorner · 21/05/2022 11:34

Would have preferred the mun....

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 21/05/2022 11:35

A bob? Seriously?

🤦‍♀️

Eeiliethya · 21/05/2022 11:35

Yeah can we have a photo? Maybe blue/colour his face out?

I really need to see this bouncy man Bob to make a judgement. If it's what I'm imagining in my head then YANBU but it might not be that bad 😂.

Please show us, we'll be nice Halo

Eeiliethya · 21/05/2022 11:37

This is the closest image to what I'm seeing in my brain, how far off is it?

Is it a bob like Vector from Despicable Me?

Definitelymabel · 21/05/2022 11:39

I'm not sure by what right you feel it's OK to demand your partner alter his appearance to your preference.

Extremely controlling behaviour. Massive red flag right there.

I hope the hairdresser and your husband did cook it up together to teach you a lesson!

KalaniM · 21/05/2022 11:40

Sounds unattractive to me.. but there’s nothing you can do about it. I do feel sorry for you though.

SanFranBear · 21/05/2022 11:40

You told your hairdresser how long he could have it - that's so controlling! I don't like long hair on men but it's their hair - to wear as they want!

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 21/05/2022 11:41

Is it like this?

This has more of the side swept fringe look, like this?

plaidpajamas · 21/05/2022 11:43

I can't believe you gave the hairdresser instructions!

Theworldisquiethere · 21/05/2022 11:44

You made him an appointment and told the hairdresser how you wanted his hair cut? Do you not see how controlling that is? It’s his hair, if he was happy with a scruffy man bun then that’s his choice! If he’s happy with this hair then that’s also his choice

Earlydancing · 21/05/2022 11:45

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 21/05/2022 11:45

Eeiliethya · 21/05/2022 11:43

This has more of the side swept fringe look, like this?

😆😆😆

That's hilarious

Iamnotamermaid · 21/05/2022 11:46

So all that needs to happen now is for DH to instruct Jo on how he thinks your hair should look.

Sorry your plan had backfired OP but learn from it...Wink

Midlifemusings · 21/05/2022 11:46

Controlling much? This is emotional abuse. You don't own his head or his hair.

I don't like my wife's hair - so I called a hairdresser and told her how I wanted them to cut her hair, she had it cut but not exactly the way I had told them to cut it....how do I force her to wear her hair exactly as I want it?

JanesLittleGirl · 21/05/2022 11:46

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 21/05/2022 11:41

Is it like this?

Yeah but with light brown hair.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 21/05/2022 11:46

Controlling? I'd clipper it all off whilst he's asleep. There are limits and a man bob totally oversteps the mark 🤭

Hugasauras · 21/05/2022 11:47

These kind of vibes?

Can't get over you literally making his appointment and telling the hairdresser how YOU want HIS hair. Crazy.
