To be conflicted over DH's hair

DH has always been a bit shit at getting his hair cut and will happily go 6 months between cuts. This has never bothered me but lockdown saw him go over 2 years without a cut so he ended up with shoulder-length hair tied up in a scruffy man-bun.

Finally I'd had enough of it so I made him an appointment with my hairdresser, Jo. I told her that he wanted to keep some of the length but I wanted it too short to tie in a bun. Apart from that she could use her imagination.

She gave him a Bob! A full on, stacked A-line bob with a high crown, side-swept fringe and points that curled under his chin. It would look really cute on a woman but on a man? Anyway, he likes it, Jo explained that she followed the brief (a bit of a stretch IMO) and DD styles it for him to keep it at max bouncy cuteness.

He even went back to Jo last week to get it cut again as she had told him that it needs to be cut every 6 weeks to keep its shape.

So I'm conflicted. On one hand, it's his hair, he, DD and friends who have commented seem to like it and I have to accept that it's neat and tidy and does sort of suit him. On the other hand, it's a bloody bob!

What with his bun & your bob I don’t think there’s much hope for either of you. As for Jo wanting to see him every 6 weeks, well, that’s another story.

No, he had the bun and now has a bob.
I agree that he's boffing Jo, though.

The only reason instruction that needs to be given to anyone cutting a man’s hair is this:

number two back and sides and trim on top.

sorted.

Erm.. no

Leaving your weirdly controlling behaviour aside for the moment, what did you expect the result of ‘A bit of length, but not long enough to tie up - use your imagination’ to be? Surely if you’re so clear on what you didn’t want, you must have had some idea of what you did want? Why would you say ‘Use your imagination’?

I want to know why you feel its appropriate to tell a hairdresser how to cut a grown man's hair "I want it too short to put in a bun" gtfo here with that controlling bullshit

If this was the other way round, and your husband was telling your hairdresser how to cut your hair, half the posters here would be telling you to leave him,,as it was overly controlling behaviour, creepy, and unacceptable.

It seems people aren’t as concerned when it’s this way, but I’ll be consistent and say that he needs to leave you, now.

You booked the appointment. You gave the guidance to the stylist. You can hardly complain now!

…I think you need to leave a little wiggle room for those men who don’t wish to look like a fifties teenager called up to do National Service having just got out of Borstal.

Unless, of course, you also feel that a spell in the bloody army would put these long-haired layabouts right.

I can’t get over you making an appointment and telling your hairdresser how your husband should have his hair! Bloody hell! That’s just insane, how old is he Five? I could just see that going down with my husband, incidentally my husband has his hair the way he likes it! Imagine your husband going to the hairdresser and telling her he doesn’t like your hair and telling her to do such and such! A Bob well I think someone’s having a laugh 🤣🤣🤣

Weird that you're doing the work for him to have it cut, why?? Just leave it alone, se what happens when you interfere? You get a bob 😂

Beautifully owned OP @JanesLittleGirl !! I think you’ve handled the hilarious bashing with dignity and grace - a rare thing! I am hopeful that you will get a matching “do” and how lovely that your DH and DD have bonded over it! 😍

These kind of vibes?

Yes, I imagine a male sporting a bob to look like the Knight on a trad set of playing cards.

I’m with OP. A lot of people seem to think it’s controlling but if my boyfriend really really hated something I would change it. If they were trying to tell me how to dress/wear hair/makeup all the time then that’s a different thing and is controlling. It’s the OP that has to look at it every day.

I would love to see a photo! I can't picture it - is it a swingy shiny French bob (gorgeous on a handsome young man with a good jaw) or is it one of those horrible pob bobs where the hair doesn't move - but too short at the back and sitting like a Russian hat? I hope it's the former and he looks lovely!

Reminds me of the time years ago I cut my then boyfriend's long hair- at his request! - to get rid of the scraggly ends. I had the Kurt Cobain look in my head but by the time I was finished he looked more like Alice in wonderland...
