To be conflicted over DH's hair

DH has always been a bit shit at getting his hair cut and will happily go 6 months between cuts. This has never bothered me but lockdown saw him go over 2 years without a cut so he ended up with shoulder-length hair tied up in a scruffy man-bun.

Finally I'd had enough of it so I made him an appointment with my hairdresser, Jo. I told her that he wanted to keep some of the length but I wanted it too short to tie in a bun. Apart from that she could use her imagination.

She gave him a Bob! A full on, stacked A-line bob with a high crown, side-swept fringe and points that curled under his chin. It would look really cute on a woman but on a man? Anyway, he likes it, Jo explained that she followed the brief (a bit of a stretch IMO) and DD styles it for him to keep it at max bouncy cuteness.

He even went back to Jo last week to get it cut again as she had told him that it needs to be cut every 6 weeks to keep its shape.

So I'm conflicted. On one hand, it's his hair, he, DD and friends who have commented seem to like it and I have to accept that it's neat and tidy and does sort of suit him. On the other hand, it's a bloody bob!

I really need to see the bob!😂

I mean it sounds ridiculous. However, if DH ever tried to tell me how to do my hair and went to the lengths of briefing my hairdresser, I would be thinking of leaving him. So you definitely ABU.

I'm picturing Lord Farquaad

To be conflicted over DH's hair

Do you also buy his clothes for him and lay them out on the bed each morning? Is he allowed to tie his own shoelaces yet?

Maybe 'Jo' ignored your instructions and asked your DH what he wanted and he now has the hairstyle of his dreams.

LTBWB .Leave The Bob Wearing Bastard.

You told your hairdresser how long he could have it - that's so controlling! I don't like long hair on men but it's their hair - to wear as they want!

Sorry I didn't express myself very well. DH wanted to get his hair cut but wanted to keep some of the length and didn't know how to describe how he wanted it done. We discussed what he did and didn't want but it was still very fuzzy. He jumped at my suggestion that he went to Jo and the brief was pretty much his words.

Controlling? I'd clipper it all off whilst he's asleep. There are limits and a man bob totally oversteps the mark 🤭

I know you’re trying to be funny but I’m pretty sure cutting someone’s hair without permission is classed as assault

breatheintheamazing · 21/05/2022 11:53

Man books hair cut for wife and instructs hairdresser how he wants it cut.......man is labelled controlling abusive and woman is advised to LTB...🤔

Beat me to it. But yeah, this.

Sure, Jan.

andtheycalledthewindmoriah · 21/05/2022 12:00

So you asked for Dudley Moore and got Demi Moore?

BusterGonad · 21/05/2022 12:00

I can't really think of any other haircut that would fit the brief.

iolaus · 21/05/2022 12:05

So you sent him to a woman's hairdresser and then are surprised that with the instructions 'long but not long enough to tie up' he ended up with a 'women's' haircut?

A lot of men even if they didn't like it - but don't really care, because you know hair grows back - would keep it knowing you didn't like it just to stop you doing the same thing in the future - it's his hair, he can have it how he wants

Bobbins36 · 21/05/2022 12:09

Can’t believe you’d tell a hairdresser how to cut someone else’s hair - WTF? Is he 5? Are you his mother or his partner? I’d be fucking livid if someone overstepped like that.

ElenaSt · 21/05/2022 12:09

Emo Philips.

It's a no from me.

Ihatethenewlook · 21/05/2022 12:10

You kind of deserved this. If this was a nam marching his wife to the hairdressers demanding she get it cut in a certain way, people would be calling him abusive

Oh ffs

ElenaSt · 21/05/2022 12:11

I reckon he, your daughter and the hair dresser are playing a joke on you and he's got a perfectly lovely manly man's haircut and the hairdresser gave him a wig that he wears only when you're around.

Why can't he make his own decisions and describe it himself?

ElenaSt · 21/05/2022 12:13

A certain haircut is called the 'Karen' so can we now call a male bob haircut the 'Darren'?
