This new site sucks

Hey Mumsnet, this new version of the site sucks. I’m sick of having to log in every time I want to do anything, I’m sick of it not updating so I’m having to trawl for new threads. When I do find anything, I can’t read it properly? But I can’t find any information from you about what’s going on, or when it’ll be fixed?

Bloody awful. I'm usually fine with app updates, they just take some getting used to. This is just awful.
Even the text font, it's so difficult to read.

When are they going to sort the trending list?
Why do i have to keep logging in?
Why does the site text area take up only a quarter of my screen?
Why didn't they just leave it alone?

Of you go into your settings, some of the issues can be resolved. Have you tried ticking the keep my logged in box?

Agree the font and the oodles of white space is hard on the eyes though.

The biggest issue for me is all the threads in active are zombie threads. I don't find anything recent like this unless I go on the actual board and look. OP if you go on the site stuff board you can find a few messages from MNHQ there. They mainly say 'oh thanks we didn't realise this was happening' and then nothing changes ...

Adapt to what? Being asked for cookie consent every time you do anything? Having everything squashed over to the left because they don't seem to have bothered with making it work in landscape mode? Adapt to trending not actually being trending? Adapt to PMs being inaccessible? Adapt to the sluggish loading of threads?

YANBU and there can't be too many threads on this imo! I'm not averse to an updated look but this isn't working. I hate having to log in every time. I would read without logging in but then it loses my bookmarks on the handful of long running threads I like checking in with.

All change is unsettling. You’ll get used to it. And give the tech team a chance, it’s been less than 36 hours. There’s teething problems. Give them a chance. I know for a fact they’ll be working far harder than 95% of people here right now. Patience!

Yes, they have increased the text size of thread titles and increased spacing so that it takes long to scroll through active texts. You can’t quickly glance at the the thread titles anymore it takes much longer.

Why have they done this? To increase the amount of time users spend scrolling, improve their user analytics and increase value for advertisers. It’s for revenue purposes, not user readability.

But it could backfire and lose them users. I mindfully use the internet with intention. I feel like it’s taking too much time and attention to browse threads now, so don’t think I’ll be bothering as much.

I'm looking on the bright side it's going to help with the mumsnet addiction. Definitely going to use it less with all this logging in.

I posted this yesterday, but this is the difference for me on my screen between pre-change and now. I had an old window still open from before the change.

So much scrolling to read anything more than one sentence now.

It's crashed twice on me this morning. Also the "I'm on" takes me to the first page, which is annoying, I want the last page like before, or wherever I last read up to if someone wants to be clever.

@Laiste yes and the reason is to increase time spent scrolling by users, because that’s how mumsnet derives its value for advertisers.

But these are BIG issues that should have been fixed before they rolled out the new site. It is very amateur to launch this when there are so many issues, e.g. notifications don't work, trending issues are stuck, threads and sections have disappeared entirely, bookmarks are lost, etc.

I'd be okay with a few teething problems, but these are major "site doesn't work properly" problems. Did MN not test the site before they launched it? It doesn't seem like they did, or they would have picked up on these major issues.

That's before you even get to the design of it, which as many people have said is not accessible for those with sight problems, disabilities, and neurodiversity.

What an odd response to a legitimate complaint. Nobody wants to adapt to something that isn't fit for purpose. MNHQ want to see feedback on how thr new site is working or not

I agree it's clunky and uncomfortable to read. Maybe nothings trending because nobody's posting. It's put me off.
