This new site sucks

Hey Mumsnet, this new version of the site sucks. I’m sick of having to log in every time I want to do anything, I’m sick of it not updating so I’m having to trawl for new threads. When I do find anything, I can’t read it properly? But I can’t find any information from you about what’s going on, or when it’ll be fixed?

I'm sure if you read the multitude of threads complaining about stuff you'll find out.

I don't know whether the app changed in such a significant way as the website as I never use the app

I'm not on the new site 😳. I had problems yesterday only seeing threads from 2019 logged out and back in and I'm back to the old Mumsnet. Are you using the App ?

Does anyone have to sign in every time they reopen the page?

On one device I have to log in and on another, this one, I don't!

It’s finally the spur I needed to stop using the site after 13 years. I have logged in to post this message but can’t see myself bothering again.

The font and the white is so formal I feel like I’m reading work documents.

What's changed? I can't see anything different on the app.

I have no idea. I use the app on a 4 year old iPhone because the desktop version looks like something from 2001 and always has. I've just checked the desktop version from my phone and ( for me, obviously other people's mileage is varying wildly) it looks pretty much exactly the same as the old one. But it's obviously not working for a lot of people so hopefully MNHQ can sort it out.

On a free site that relies on Ad Revenue I can't get too het up about glitches which will no doubt get ironed out over the next few days. Given that so many people either moan about ads or use adblocker while accessing a free site, I'm not sure they understand that this isn't just some kind of existential dump and run website set up for their convenience when they want to bitch about their mother in law.

I like the font but visually it's almost painful and hard to read. Unfortunately getting vision loss as I get older

I mean colourwise, the background, the white and grey.

Hi, I work in user design, UX and building websites. The new site isn't mobile friendly.

When I am reading threads a tiny ad window pops up and when I click exit it either a) does not exit 2) allows me to click the cross but then nothing happens and the ad is still there.

Mumsnet, I'd be getting whoever built your site right on to this...

I've had to log out multiple times to try & post anything- this is on the app

On the laptop it's just a weird fragmented version of the old site and buttons don't seem to be "active" when I click on them

Whatever got done, it's very annoying!

And yesterday appeared to have lost all the I'm on & watching threads!

I hate it. Its like talking to a friend whose wearing a different face. No one sounds the same in this font.🙁Also when I try to open a post from my notifications a big black boulder appears across the screen and it won't let me in. (Sorry if that's already been mentioned in the thread, it's so hard to read now that I haven't.)

I'm afraid I don't like it either MN, in fact unless you sort it out I feel sure that you'll be losing a LOT of your audience, me included.

I've seen people mentioning a refresh button, was there one? I always just refreshed chrome on my phone.

Actually this is exactly what I needed. This is going to cure my addiction. And I need it. I need to get on with my own life and make my own decisions without seeking the collective approval!

Has the feature gone now that threads you have previously read, but new posts were in thread, it showed as bold?

Mine do until I log in again then their messages are in green and my own in purple (you can change the colours in settings) . It’s weird because it appears that you are logged in when you’re not 🤷🏼‍♀️

I really hate the fact threads are displayed according to time, rather then topics.. its doing my head in badly!

I've switched to the app -- works far better than the website

Hate it.

All the posts blend into one.

Visually there is no diference between posters, too much white space, no colour. no refresh button, multiple log ins, and generally not easy on the eye.

It's pale and insiped whereas before it had colour and life.

For users of a certain age this it almost impossible to compartmentalise the different responses by posters, it is unclear and confusing.

In otherwords I don't like it

It really is, & it's up to MN to adapt, not the users - who all have the choice to slope off elsewhere.

I'm hoping it's teething problems/getting rid of bugs & will improve.
But right now -

• ads still swallowing entire screen of thread, making it impossible to read


• notifications page randomly showing as blank


• notifications page link now takes user to first page, not back to page/post last read, as on previous platform


• posting issues - screen freezes or error message, making it impossible to complete post, or even access text to save it & repost (the issue often means the only 'user fix' it to exit site completely, then relaunch from new window)


• frequent random juddering/freezing & making site impossible to navigate

It's irritating, & if it's not going to get fixed in the short term, too irritating to perservere with. But MN have always been a bit crap with the GUI. Suspect they have enough traffic not to care. Bit shortsighted though - the next new shiny thing is always round the corner ...
