This new site sucks

Hey Mumsnet, this new version of the site sucks. I’m sick of having to log in every time I want to do anything, I’m sick of it not updating so I’m having to trawl for new threads. When I do find anything, I can’t read it properly? But I can’t find any information from you about what’s going on, or when it’ll be fixed?

On a free site that relies on Ad Revenue I can't get too het up about glitches which will no doubt get ironed out over the next few days. Given that so many people either moan about ads or use adblocker while accessing a free site, I'm not sure they understand that this isn't just some kind of existential dump and run website set up for their convenience when they want to bitch about their mother in law.

It's not a "free site" - the users are in fact the sole content-providers, so if anyone's getting something for "free", it's MN.

Sure, the revenue model is paid-for ads - but you say that as if MN are nobly selling their souls for ad revenue purely to provide a service to users.
They're not. They are selling ads like other media outlets do - to make money, which is only being spent by advertisers because the content providers (ie users) are prolific & numerous enough to tempt advertisers to allocate budget to MN.

Is there a fix yet for the We need your consent box popping up every time I change to a new thread or page? I have to Accept and close every time. Can anyone link to it if so?
Only good thing is I'm wasting less time browsing AIBU.

Been wondering what the heck has happened and not been able to ask . I’m logged in , can comment but can’t start a new thread or would have asked sooner what was going on . And the constant consenting to cookies ! What’s that all about ? But at least I now know it’s not just me . This is the first thread I’ve seen on the subject .
I thought my phone was hacked or something .

There's a fix that works for most - deleting Mumsnet cookies. It's in one of the "cookie consent" threads in site stuff.

Still hate it.
I see less ads now to be fair. They are smaller than the last site and easy to scroll past.
I never minded the ads on the home page ( the Talk one with Active and Trending). I think the fact you can’t really see the ads anymore is a bit of a mistake considering that’s where the money comes from.

makes me realise how antiquated some of the features on the old site were but was just used to them- codes for bold & italics, not to mention no proper emojis😂

@mumsnet can you sort the new site and put it back to the way it was because this is very user unfriendly and you will lose your audience.

I always just put emojis from the keyboard in and they came out fine.
Since its really annoying to read on an iPad, I won’t be using the site long enough to benefit.
Why not the old layout with the additional features people wanted? Facebook was never the same when the dumbed the page down. It’s annoying.

Still getting the miniature font for all the naviation, the threads in I'm on / I'm watching, the words, the titles in 'trending', the words like 'active' or 'last hour' etc at the top. So small!!

And then so much white space at the sides of the screen (desktop) as well as the blank spaces at the top. That takes up so much space, and yet the font on everything but the posts and main topic titles is so tiny.

And photos still unusable.

On the app, threads I'm on/watched don't remember that I've read them - it resets every couple of hours so that they're all white again, despite there not being any new posts.

Sort out the photo's/attachments. They are so teeny tiny that you need the Hubble telescope to see them.

@SoupDragon Thanks for pointing me to the fix - it seems to have worked, but I'm crossing fingers it's permanent! Will doubtless find out when I leave site and come back later.

This is bugging me as well. I like to have all the messages on one page

Wish they’d left it alone , it seems to jump about all over the place , and not easy to see if you’ve already looked at the thread

I don't mind the new layout but I really hate the fact there is no Last page button or to the page I commented on. It takes ages to find where you were and going to the last page doesn't always work with the numbers.
I've given up on a few chats I was on as I can't find my post to work forward from.

I barely come on here now as it is not relaxing as the text hurts my eyes and everything is so slow and annoying.

I can add a post to a thread but not start a new thread . Anyone worked this one out yet?

It’s so annoying.
Even the ads don’t work as well. I keep half an eye out as I’m sure I give the internet enough info to know what I like. Saw an ad promoting some interesting clothes but before I clicked on it, it changed to Cod Liver oil ! So I read the thread and waited but it never showed the clothes ad again. Just flicked between a Scottish hotel, cod liver oil and a retirement home in Kent. So about 20 years too early to be of interest .
Why can’t I get the clothes one back up?

The whole @ thing is really annoying. You can't quote from Twitter without getting "that name is not known" or some such.
