This new site sucks

Hey Mumsnet, this new version of the site sucks. I’m sick of having to log in every time I want to do anything, I’m sick of it not updating so I’m having to trawl for new threads. When I do find anything, I can’t read it properly? But I can’t find any information from you about what’s going on, or when it’ll be fixed?

All change is unsettling. You’ll get used to it. And give the tech team a chance, it’s been less than 36 hours. There’s teething problems. Give them a chance. I know for a fact they’ll be working far harder than 95% of people here right now. Patience!

I'm not opposed to change, a lot of the posts are about things that don't work not change per se

Wouldn't you think that it might have occurred to IT people that if they worked a little harder on basic testing pre launch they wouldn't have to, according to you, work harder than everyone else afterwards

Musicalmaestro · 21/04/2022 08:23

Bogofballs I hadn’t thought of that!
Well it’s going to backfire, because people will spend less time here now.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 21/04/2022 08:23

Oh yawn. What sucks is the eleventy billion threads about how awful the new platform is. It really isn't. Adapt!

@GreenWheat - why should people just shut up and adapt to something that MN themselves have admitted is full of bugs?

Also, it may not have occurred if you're neuro-diverse or struggle with your sight, you can't just "adapt" - the new browser version is very difficult to read and as there's no clear breaks in the text, it can be very overwhelming to read and concentrate on.

NurseBernard · 21/04/2022 08:24

OMG the incessant whinging about this is soooooo tedious.

it’s just a chat forum that no-one’s forcing you to spend time on.

Momicrone · 21/04/2022 08:25

The biggest change for me is that my posts come up as same colour as ops posts, which is annoying

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 21/04/2022 08:25

@JustAnotherPoster00 is it "behaving like a toddler" if you have sight issues or are neuro-diverse and can't physically read the new version without getting overwhelmed (due to the huge walls of text with no breaks)?

Just curious Hmm

BogRollBOGOF · 21/04/2022 08:26

I'm missing the "go to page..." option if I read a thread to what is now halfway through and not on the stated list of numbers.

It's too gappy, like reading a book for 5-8yos. I want the text to flow more like reading a novel... as it did!

Momicrone · 21/04/2022 08:25

Change it then? Go to settings, it's in there

Teething problems that should have been caught with all the testing that went on. Some are very basic issues that should never have happened.

Well I can adapt or I can spend my time elsewhere. The old MN was pretty captivating This one is clunky.
I can’t see it being a success. How can new people know there are a multitude of forums without clicking on individual categories and then sub categories. Before you could see (most of them) on the first page. I was always amazed at the niche groups. I’ve got no interest in trawling round wasting even more time in the hope there’s a good thread in some random group.

PaddlingLikeADuck · 21/04/2022 08:32

YANBU

it’s awful and I’m definitely spending less time here.

Someone above said that it’s new lay out and presentation of the thread/responses is childlike and I agree.

I also have to keep logging back in whenever I want to do something.

And it’s soooooo slow!

why did they even change it?!

LadyOfTheCanyon · 21/04/2022 08:32

I use the app on my phone and it's the same as it was before, even after logging out and in again to see if I've missed something.

I use the desktop site from time to time so hopefully it'll be sorted out by the time I do.

mudgetastic · 21/04/2022 08:36

I can’t post from the app

i can’t see my recently watches threads anywhere

the web versions is just too full of junk to make reading any thread possible

it will be good for me to give it up

Bogofballs · 21/04/2022 08:40

@PaddlingLikeADuck to get us scrolling for longer and increase value for advertising, to generate more revenue

SickySickSick · 21/04/2022 08:40

@GreenWheat maybe I’d know there were ‘eleventy billion’ threads about this if active or trending were working properly for me, but as I’ve said, they’re not!

Good! I’m pleased there are lots of threads, hopefully mumsnet will notice and fix it! I understand the desire to update, but this isn’t fit for purpose, it’s not ready for use yet!

OP posts:
comfortablyfrumpy · 21/04/2022 08:41

I suspect I will use it much less.

Much more clumsy to use on a phone, slower, chunkier. More scrolling. Fed up having to keep logging in.

I use other forums which have changed, and I have got used to it.

I have no problem with change per se - but I see no improvement here. The opposite, in fact

tiredanddangerous · 21/04/2022 08:45

Just teething problems hopefully.

you don't have to keep logging in if you tick the box that asks if you want to stay logged in!

Swayingpalmtrees · 21/04/2022 08:45

The trending is just showing old threads, can't seem to see any new ones anywhere so either people aren't posting, which is unlikely or there is a tech issue. Logging in all of the time is okay not sure why we are doing it so often though or the point, maybe they are rebooting. I like the new emojis though and can read the posts more easily now.
Perhaps HQ can give us an update.

SleeplessInEngland · 21/04/2022 08:46

I'm neutral on it. The previous format felt ancient, like it was from the early days of the web, but this isn't much of a jump ahead.

pussycatlickinglollyices · 21/04/2022 08:49

erm, it's working pretty well on the desktop version...
better than before

BogRollBOGOF · 21/04/2022 08:52

The old colour boundary at the start of a post was far clearer than a gap then bold text.

The boundary of the OP with option to expand was better than the full OP on the top of each page. With the controls of which page you're on not being particularly clear, it takes a good deal of scrolling past the OP to work out where on the thread you landed.

The quickest way for tech problems to be identified is for users to report them. The threads detailing the issues users encounter are helpful to the tech teams, particularly if they are in site issues or tag MNHQ. Admittedly this thread does 🤷‍♀️.

Most annoying things for me are the fact notifications that there are new posts go to the first page rather than the last page and the cookie thing. Plus the fact the op and my posts are highlighted in pretty much the same colour - @MNHQ

emuloc · 21/04/2022 09:00

I can see myself spending less time on here now. This new format is not working for me.

TulipsHere · 21/04/2022 09:00

Bookmarking not working is driving me mad.

Mirrorball2022 · 21/04/2022 09:01

The adverts are bloody everywhere too. Not good.
