Partner stopping bill money after DLA award

Woolyduck · 11/03/2022 19:13

We have been awarded middle rate DLA for our 3yo DC.
Partner usually sends me £270 bill money but since finding out we are getting 240 for DCs DLA he has said he is stopping the bill money as DLA gets paid to my account.
I argue we need this extra money and at the end of the month I tend to end up borrowing his card for basic groceries and it's supposed to be for extra things DC needs due to his autism.

So

YABU
you're getting the money into your account, he can stop paying that part of bill money in

YANBU
DLA should be for DCs extra needs and food shopping for family

So basically he is keeping your child’s flag money. I have never done this before but LTB

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 11/03/2022 19:16

Tight bastard

Unmumsymofo · 11/03/2022 19:17

Financial abuse and control. A second very very well deserved LTB!!

Justkeepon · 11/03/2022 19:18

Is your partner your DS's bio father and do you all live together? If I'm reading this right your partner thinks DSs DLA can cover the bills now....and so what..he gets to spend the £270 himself now instead of for paying bills? He does realise the DLA is for the child, it's not to allow him to have some extra cash for himself Angry

FirstTimeSecondTime · 11/03/2022 19:18

Wow, he is a piece of work isn’t he!

Rainbowqueeen · 11/03/2022 19:18

That is abusive. I’d seek some support from womens aid and ask him to leave

familybfive · 11/03/2022 19:18

YANBU - that’s for your Ds

Time2Sly · 11/03/2022 19:19

Put in a claim for child maintenance via csa

Crunchymum · 11/03/2022 19:19

So you are now going to be £30 a month worse off?

Is her your DC's dad?

Ragruggers · 11/03/2022 19:19

No the DLA is for your son not to pay bills. It is awarded for all the extras he will need now and in the future.Save any you have over you will need it.

Orangesox · 11/03/2022 19:20

What a sorry excuse for a man, regardless of whether he is DC’s biological father. He sounds absolutely vile, of course that money is for DC and their additional needs!

YouCantTourniquetTheTaint · 11/03/2022 19:20

You're being financially abused.

The money is not for household Bill's. It's for the extra costs on top of DS needs! I spend ds on extra clothes, extra washing, tutor and private assessments. Some of the cash offsets me giving up my carer too. But it's not to feed everyone.

LawnFever · 11/03/2022 19:23

What an absolute twat, what’s he planning on spending the extra money on while he sponges off your DCs DLA?

Travis1 · 11/03/2022 19:25

What a cunt. Yanbu

x2boys · 11/03/2022 19:26

Just to clarify DLA can be used for anything including bills ,but it is not instead of bill money .

thenewduchessoflapland · 11/03/2022 19:26

Why is he only contributing £270 a month towards the bills?;is he on benefits or works part time?

Bagelsandbrie · 11/03/2022 19:27

What the actual fuck??

Yes dla can be used for anything including household bills and expenses (it’s a common misconception that it can’t) but it doesn’t mean he can stop paying his contribution!

youwouldthink · 11/03/2022 19:28

Wow. Never used ltb before but am making an exception. What a prize dick!!

Harridan1981 · 11/03/2022 19:30

This depends. Is there a family pot of money? Is he seeing the DLA as going into that? Which if you have shared finances, it should do I guess. How are all the other bills of the household paid for?

Rewritethestars1 · 11/03/2022 19:31

No its not for your dp to have additional spending money or for household bills Including food shops. Its for ds, which may include food if he requires extra stuff or certain things to eat. It should be spent on equipment etc for ds. You need to save what you don't spend of this money in a separate account because you will need it as ds gets older for things like therapy and additional assessments.

That's not true for many people the DLA goes into the general household pot ,it can be used for anything that benefits the child including ,rent ,bills etc That doesn't however mean that in this case it is instead of the bill money .
CeleriacOfTheNight · 11/03/2022 19:41

Oh come the fuck on.
If this really is your 'partner' you need to raise your bar, sharpish.

Sockpile · 11/03/2022 19:43

Are you entitled to carers allowance too?
