Sick of all the war threads

I know I don't have to read them but even the titles are a bit much. I know what's going on, I don't want to keep reading thread titles such as:

Diane Abbot thinks Russian Tanks are r...

The Invasion continues

Would you even want to survive a nucl...

DP won't let the kids leave the house beca...

All in active right now.

Is it just me who doesn't want to be continually reminded? Perhaps I'll have to stop coming on here.

emmathedilemma · 01/03/2022 14:34

Indeed. And then they wonder why they're all suffering with anxiety......

Libertybear80 · 01/03/2022 14:35

I'm sick of people writing threads like ' what is this I've found in my bed' , 'who do you think is the best looking celebrity'

The situation in Ukraine makes these sorts of threads look vacuous.

MedusasBadHairDay · 01/03/2022 14:35

I don't mind the factual ones about what's actually happening, but hide all the dramatic ones about impending armageddon.

It's a big deal, and people will want to talk about it. You can't stop that, but at least MN gives us the ability to hide as much of it as we need to.

JudgeRindersMinder · 01/03/2022 14:37

But sometimes people need that light relief? Or should we all be turning our lives into doom and gloom just now?
Porfre · 01/03/2022 14:38

I dont normally hide threads, but with all the scaremongering and doomsday predictions think I'm gonna have to.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 01/03/2022 14:39

MN is not compulsory, you know.

You don't like it, you don't click on it.

Yes fine we need both. The op might think the war threads are doom and gloom when she just wants to paint her nails and plan her weekend out etc but like I can't stop people posting vacuous shite she/ he can't stop people expressing their anxieties about a real threat!

KMTKaren · 01/03/2022 14:40

Agree with this, the threads should be taken elsewhere. Not good for anyones mental health!

StepAwayFromGoogling · 01/03/2022 14:40

Can't we have a separate section though?! @Libertybear80 - I appreciate you are clearly the intellectual superior of us all but 'what is this in my bed' threads are much more in the spirit of AIBU that 'WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!' It's exactly the light relief that a lot of us need at the moment.

ScreamingSauvignon · 01/03/2022 14:40

@Babadook76

I’m sick of ‘I’m sick of all the war threads’. Can we have a separate category just for these idiots please? 🙄
Agree.
daimbarsatemydogsbone · 01/03/2022 14:41

I'm sick of people posting about being sick of all the people who are sick of all the war threads.

StepAwayFromGoogling · 01/03/2022 14:41

Cross post.

Thanks for that. Do you feel better now? Hmm

I wasn’t feeling at all anxious or worried about it (from a selfish viewpoint) until reading the threads on here. I started reading them thinking people were being over the top, and now I’m finding myself thinking similarly. I wish I hadn’t read any of them.

Libertybear80 · 01/03/2022 14:42

I'm certainly not intellectually superior but not everyone gets 'light relief' from Mumsnet. Different people have different needs. If we are going to hide the threads about significant world events then we should hide the superficial, mindless and banal threads too!

Brefugee · 01/03/2022 14:44

But sometimes people need that light relief? Or should we all be turning our lives into doom and gloom just now?

well people who don't want the vacuous stuff get told to scroll on - so just scroll on by, no?

ShittyFingers · 01/03/2022 14:44

Totally agree OP!! I was actually going to post the exact same thing before I came across your post.
My anxiety is through the roof and I’m trying to help myself by keeping away from the news other than one catch up at the end of the day. I’ve felt much better since and came on mumsnet just now to see a thread entitled “would you want to survive a nucle….”

Fuck of!!! Hoping mumsnet bans this shit from AIBU and sticks it in its own topic so the doomsdayers can go and hang out over there and the rest of us can just stick with the actual facts of what’s happening.

MedusasBadHairDay · 01/03/2022 14:45

@daimbarsatemydogsbone

I'm sick of people posting about being sick of all the people who are sick of all the war threads.
And I'm sick of.. oh god I don't know, I've lost track.

Does it matter if they're vacuous? Go on BBC news app or something if you only want to read about serious topics.
XenoBitch · 01/03/2022 14:45

@Brefugee

But sometimes people need that light relief? Or should we all be turning our lives into doom and gloom just now?

The vacuous stuff is not triggering people into hysteria and then going on to make more threads that then trigger other people etc.
Libertybear80 · 01/03/2022 14:45

This thread isn't banal though. It's an interesting discussion and when I last looked we live in a free and democratic society so I am free to join in.

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/03/2022 14:45

It's an incredibly important, fast-moving, relevant situation in the world. Of course there are a lot of threads. Hide them if you don't like them.

I will admit I do raise an eyebrow at people who find thread titles 'a bit much' but can't seem to understand that actually fleeing a Russian Army might be a tad worse and the eyes of the world on it are actually helping. Does it not make you feel empathetic rather than upset?
