Sick of all the war threads

dollymuchymuchness · 01/03/2022 14:31

I know I don't have to read them but even the titles are a bit much. I know what's going on, I don't want to keep reading thread titles such as:

Diane Abbot thinks Russian Tanks are r...

The Invasion continues

Would you even want to survive a nucl...

DP won't let the kids leave the house beca...

All in active right now.

Is it just me who doesn't want to be continually reminded? Perhaps I'll have to stop coming on here.

@Libertybear80

I'm certainly not intellectually superior but not everyone gets 'light relief' from Mumsnet. Different people have different needs. If we are going to hide the threads about significant world events then we should hide the superficial, mindless and banal threads too!
Yes world events are important but it's the superficial, mindless and banal threads that keep us amused and stop us from feeling too low. We all know what's going on.

YABU. It’s a very serious situation

And for some their MH is affected because of the situation

You can tell from the title so don’t read them

I often get sick of the moaning posts on here, I look at the titles and if I don’t like the look scroll on by

malificent7 · 01/03/2022 14:47

Aibu is not the place to be if u suffer from anxiety. We are all being unreasonable on here. And shit parents/ people in general.

Banning all threads from mumsnet would certainly solve something
GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 01/03/2022 14:47

Different people have different needs.

Which is exactly why we have different section available. The war threads are everywhere and that's not fair to those who would rather not read them to protect their mental health.

DillDanding · 01/03/2022 14:47

In the early days of coronavirus, I used to hide the threads. But then it became a thing that needed its own section.

This conflict needs its own topic now too.

Porfre · 01/03/2022 14:47

@Fl0w3ry

I wasn’t feeling at all anxious or worried about it (from a selfish viewpoint) until reading the threads on here. I started reading them thinking people were being over the top, and now I’m finding myself thinking similarly. I wish I hadn’t read any of them.
Same.

I'm going about my day.
Go to work. Come home. Do housework etc. Feel ok.

Have a 10 minute MN catchup and feel like the world is about to end.

Libertybear80 · 01/03/2022 14:48

@dollymuchymuchness they keep you amused you mean. Unless you've suddenly been elected to speak on behalf of all the participants of Mumsnet!

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/03/2022 14:48

Public opinion is currently helping the people of Ukraine. Leaders and businesses wouldn't be trying to cripple the Russian economy without feeling that their votes and PR depended on it.

OutsideVoice · 01/03/2022 14:48

This is the biggest news right now.
If someone is so mentally ill that they need to hide away from such news they should avoid the internet altogether.

Some topics are more active than others, MNers must be allowed to discuss this wherever they want on MN - we’re all adults.

DrSbaitso · 01/03/2022 14:49

A separate board specifically for them would be a good idea.

dollymuchymuchness · 01/03/2022 14:49

@MrsTerryPratchett

It's an incredibly important, fast-moving, relevant situation in the world. Of course there are a lot of threads. Hide them if you don't like them.

I will admit I do raise an eyebrow at people who find thread titles 'a bit much' but can't seem to understand that actually fleeing a Russian Army might be a tad worse and the eyes of the world on it are actually helping. Does it not make you feel empathetic rather than upset?

Feeling upset about what's happening to others is in fact feeling empathy. Most of us do feel empathy about what's happening but we still have to function. Watching and reading about the dreadful situation endlessly, will upset most people.

A. Don't read them.
B. Hide them.

Worldgonecrazy · 01/03/2022 14:50

Mumsnet is important enough to be targeted by shills. We saw it during covid ( waves at the Nudge Unit) and no doubt we are seeing some now by Russian shills seeking to demoralise and create fear. I am betting that the originating IP addresses of some posters would be quite interesting.

Then you see a title about not sending kids into school, so you wonder if things have escalated, so you end up reading the thread.

It is not that easy to scroll on by.

hesbeen2021 · 01/03/2022 14:51

AIBU to be thrilled that my new word of the day is vacuous

Reading them isn't compulsory.

How do you get to people being mentally ill from someone not wanting to see all the threads? What an extreme assumption!

I expect you'd still get people moaning that they appear in Active.
Ramalamadingdongs · 01/03/2022 14:54

You're responsible for your own mental health. Go and read a book, or paint a picture, or do some knitting. The whole internet is awash with the news. A forum used by millions of people shouldn't have to avoid talking about the war because YOU can't handle it. Take responsibility for yourself.

Brefugee · 01/03/2022 14:54

agree. And at the risk of sounding unsympathetic (I'm not) if you think you might be triggered by current events, maybe you don't want to hang around the internet and maybe work on your anxiety?

Having said that i have long thought that MN should be working harder to put thnks in the correct categories, and that would clear AIBU out in one fell swoop and get some of the other talk topics more lively.

ExConstance · 01/03/2022 14:55

I'll be sticking to style and Beauty for the time being, and look to the BBC for sensible grown up stuff about Ukraine etc.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 01/03/2022 14:56

@ilovesooty Sometimes the context isn't clear or the other extreme, it's very graphic and unnecessary. What exactly is the problem in just posting them in the news topic? Since they are in fact news! Why AIBU when the posted isn't asking a AIBU question?

ABitBesotted · 01/03/2022 14:57

All the "I live in the Cotswolds but I'm so anxious the RuSs1anZ are going to nuke me" stuff is ridiculous, attention-seeking and wearing paper-thin.
