Sick of all the war threads

dollymuchymuchness · 01/03/2022 14:31

I know I don't have to read them but even the titles are a bit much. I know what's going on, I don't want to keep reading thread titles such as:

Diane Abbot thinks Russian Tanks are r...

The Invasion continues

Would you even want to survive a nucl...

DP won't let the kids leave the house beca...

All in active right now.

Is it just me who doesn't want to be continually reminded? Perhaps I'll have to stop coming on here.

Unlike overhearing conversation about it on a bus or in a shop, you have the choice to hide or even switch your device off.

Unlike the poor buggers in Ukraine right now.

@AllTheWeetabix

I come on mumsnet to escape my anxiety and all these war threads are making it fucking worse! Just shut the fuck up!
Newsflash: world doesn’t revolve around you

How can people be so selfish?

ButtockUp · 01/03/2022 17:03

The war in Ukraine is real and happening and we should be accessing information on it.

My real concern is the high level of anxiety that , not just this war, but anything that you can think of , that is pervading so many threads of late.

I'm beginning to think that 50% of the country is taking sertraline or, if they're not, then they're getting diagnosed for ASD /ADHD... the number of people , seemingly unable to cope with any life event /problem is growing every day , if MN is anything to go by.

Really worry about how we WOULD cope if the Ukrainian situation escalates.

Thedogscollar · 01/03/2022 17:17

@dollymuchymuchness
Without sounding rude your post sounds very privileged.

*Is it just me who just doesn't want to be continually reminded?

I wonder if they thought like this in 1939?
This needs discussing this needs to be talked about by ALL of us. Not discussing won't make it go away.

Cocomarine · 01/03/2022 17:18

I’m really interested in the wash me threads - both the ones with good information, and the ones that give to a tiny insight into how others are processing it all end reacting.
So I’d say I’m pretty aware of them - but I don’t think there are that many. Especially less than a week on!

The person who needed support / input because of her husband’s fears - why should she go to a niche board that she might not be aware of or thinks is all military strategy chat and Flightradar24 pics?

A lot of discussion is already contained in one easy to avoid / hide thread.

Why anyone would come on Mumsnet to escape their anxiety is a mystery to me given how many highly anxious people post here
balalake · 01/03/2022 17:22

You have the freedom and choice not to read them. Unlike the choices people in Russia have which are restricted.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 01/03/2022 17:27

Perhaps MN needs a 'Catastrophisers' Corner?'

(Off to perform my jaunty little Happy Dance. Suppose someone has to ...)

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 01/03/2022 17:29

People running around with their fingers in their ears shouting lalala isn't going to make this potentially dangerous situation go away.

Many of the threads are informative, or are helping people process their thoughts and feelings regarding this situation.

Where exactly does the diagnosis of neuro-disabilities fit in here, Buttock?
Cocomarine · 01/03/2022 17:33

Just lost a long post - now that’s triggering!

Summary: AIBU first page excluding stickies and adds, and 5/51 threads are war related, including this one. All easily identifiable from their titles.

For every person whose anxiety is made worse, there’s probably another person who feels better for the threads to talk on, not hidden away.

To think there are enough threads to be sick of them… 5/51? Propaganda 😉

Or perhaps a 'Canute's Corner' for those wishing to avoid uncomfortable realities?
DrSbaitso · 01/03/2022 17:40

Why would anyone come on to MN to relieve anxiety? Everyone's diagnosed with anxiety and depression on here.

Fiefofum · 01/03/2022 17:41

@Libertybear80

I'm sick of people writing threads like ' what is this I've found in my bed' , 'who do you think is the best looking celebrity'

The situation in Ukraine makes these sorts of threads look vacuous.

We need a separate category now, just like it was done for “coronavirus”.

Certainly a high proportion of posters seem to be. It's not the responsibility of MNHQ or other posters to manage other people's triggers either. People have to have some degree of personal responsibility in terms of managing their own mental health.
ilovesooty · 01/03/2022 17:56

We need a separate category now, just like it was done for “coronavirus”.
Which didn't stop loads of really anxious people posting on it.
ButtockUp · 01/03/2022 17:58

It doesn't @Equalbutdifferent
The point I've made is that so very many MNetters of late are looking for reasons to quake and shudder in fear of so very many mundane things.

Agreed Yea f you don't like what's going on? No one does! But yet most of the moaners are sitting in their nice peaceful warm homes going about their nice lives

Ffs this is on our doorstep!
Get a grip and put yourself in their shoes for 5 minutes!

I’m not a violent person but some people need their hands stamping on so they can’t type. Not so much the anxious, but the ones lapping it up. They sound so excited it makes me feel ill. There were posts about petrol stations running out of fuel and tinned tomatoes and pasta gone from supermarkets that seemed gleeful. Horrible.

Tumbleweed blowing across the covid section now as a fair few people have decided that “war” is the most thrilling thing now. They don’t want to discuss, just get off on how scary it all is, like we’re in a movie.

Lovely bit of casual ableism there.
Staffy1 · 01/03/2022 18:11

You can hide threads from the active threads list, just not the trending list. The war is quite a major thing so people are going to want to discuss it now. It’s threads such as “wtf just came out of my arse” that I wish would be banished to a far and hidden corner.

EffOrfagain · 01/03/2022 18:18

There is one proper ongoing thread on the war which I believe is on thread 5, the rest of the crap needs shovelling up and stuffing in the far corner of Mumsnet

Swipe left for the next trending thread
