How often to change bra????

braminger · 19/02/2022 22:47

Ok full confession.

I change my knickers, socks,t shirts and leggings daily.

Dresses,jumpers, trousers every few days.

Cardies, jeans and pjs about once a week.

Yet
I never keep track of how long my bra is on. I'd guess between 5 and 15 days yet it's as close to my skin as socks!! AIBU??

Personally I have a clean bra on each day. I have 8 bras. I wash them once a week in a wash bag on a delicates wash with other delicates. I have 32g so big boobs and I'm sure they get a bit sweaty underneath. Wouldn't wear a t shirt or cotton shirt for more than one day. I obviously wear clean pants/socks daily. Jeans get worn for about a week and jumpers/cardigans quite a few times before being washed.

I shower daily too.

That's how I like it and I'd feel uncomfortable washing changing less.

Stickytreacle · 20/02/2022 11:38

I can remember my ancient girl guide handbook telling us to wash bras and all underwear daily, as there was nothing worse than the sight of a grubby bra strap Confused. I tend to wash bras every other day in reality though.

@cheekychaplin think of the environmental impact of all that extra laundry though! So there is a cost - to our planet and future.

No need to wash jeans after one wear - and the eco cost of producing jeans in the first place means we should make them last as long as possible too, not wash them to death and replace quickly.

I don't need to consider the environmental impact of putting my bra in the wash load or not, I can't see it makes any difference at all.

The clothes thing I don't disagree with. My comments were purely because someone said people must have an unhealthy attitude (OCD?) to wear clean clothes every day. Maybe they just choose that.

Glovez · 20/02/2022 12:18

I change them daily, I own 4 but wash in a laundry bag in the washing machine.

womaninatightspot · 20/02/2022 12:26

I have one bra! I work four days so wear mon/tue wash wed wear thur/ fri wear a bralette or sports top on days off. I'm on a weight loss thing so want to wait to my goal weight before I invest in more. Not sure I could go more than a week in the same bra as it'd feel grimy somehow.

zingally · 20/02/2022 12:41

Errr... When I remember!

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/02/2022 13:47
@Luredbyapomegranate my bras last for years. It's not a hot wash and I don't buy for fashion, just replacement, and no, it doesn't wear them out. I don't have a go at folk who buy clothes every 5 minutes for fun, because that's their choice. It's just not mine. You can allow people to be different to you; in fact that's what makes life interesting.
I’m not having a go at you, or anyone. I’m expressing the point that if you wash any thing very frequently, it needs replacing more often. This is simply a fact. This is forum where people express opinions and debate, if you can’t take that, don’t post.

peboh · 20/02/2022 13:56

Once a week ... however I go to the gym 5 times week, so I'm only wearing my normal bras 2 days. My sports bra gets washed after every use though.

SamMil · 20/02/2022 14:17

I change mine every 3-4 days, but sometimes I'll rotate a couple over the week & then wash them together.

Sports bras get washed after every use.

woodhill · 20/02/2022 14:19

Handwash wire ones and change them every 2 days but usually put non wire or sports bra on in evening that go in WM

Stillgoings · 20/02/2022 14:22

Clean pants and tights every day. Clean bra when I think on. I'm quite flat chested and don't get sweaty there.

BelleNoir · 20/02/2022 15:09

@LuckyAmy1986

Me too. I couldn't wear one two days running. Only ever done it in emergencies and then tried to sponge it down first!

Oh god ladies, if you are ever in an EMERGENCY situation where you have to wear your bra TWO Envy Envy days in a row, for the love of god make sure you at least try and SPONGE IT DOWN first!!!!

I thought you meant how often should you buy a new one - ie how quickly do they stop providing the support you want.

I wear mine for a few days or rotate like a pp. I often wear a sports bra a second time too.

They all go in the washing machine, whether underwired or not.

Pootle40 · 20/02/2022 15:31

Climate change alive and strong on this thread! Wearing a clean bra every day 🙄

ouch321 · 20/02/2022 15:35

Clean one every day of course.

Why would you shower to get clean and then put a dirty bra on?

Same goes for any other item of clothing. It's basic standards of cleanliness/hygiene.

Well not everyone showers every day. And you really don't need every single item clean every day.
WutheringHeights66 · 20/02/2022 15:44

Everyday but I’m Middle Aged and get sweaty boobs, when I was younger and slimmer I might have done four days.

Ejk1990 · 20/02/2022 15:46

Probably weekly for 2 bras. But I rarely wear my bras unless out. I'm not a sweaty person even though I have a large bust!

Never had a frugal information in my life.

You change every item of clothing that touches your skin after showering? Even jeans!?
Howshouldibehave · 20/02/2022 15:51

Daily, along with knickers, socks and tops.

RampantIvy · 20/02/2022 15:57

To wear apoair of jeans or a jumper only once before washing? No, it isn't. It is OTT and bad for the environment.

It's no wonder some mumsnetters have their washer going several times a day every day.

FlasherMcGruff · 20/02/2022 16:00

Wear twice then wash. I mainly wear black bras and I can see flakes of skin on the fabric despite showering daily so I think it’s a bit unclean to not change them more often than that. My clothes don’t need to smell for me to wash them!

But how does putting your bra in with the rest of the washing you are doing anyway affect climate change?
Svara · 20/02/2022 16:07

Washing clothing more often wears it out quicker. Making new clothing has a big environmental impact.
