How often to change bra????

braminger · 19/02/2022 22:47

Ok full confession.

I change my knickers, socks,t shirts and leggings daily.

Dresses,jumpers, trousers every few days.

Cardies, jeans and pjs about once a week.

Yet
I never keep track of how long my bra is on. I'd guess between 5 and 15 days yet it's as close to my skin as socks!! AIBU??

Daily!!!

ToMockAKillingBird · 20/02/2022 09:39

Since i turned 40 I need a clean bra daily. I'm 44K though so I get sweaty underboob even in winter. I don't use deodorant under my boobs but use the Asda baby liquid talc which is really good and cheap as chips.

Before I turned 40 I'd happily wear a bra for 2 or 3 days maximum though.

RampantIvy · 20/02/2022 09:39

When I said all clothes that includes thing like jeans, sweatshirts, jackets etc. And yes I think needing to wash a non dirty pair of jeans that have only been worn once does constitute an unhealthy OTT attitude towards cleanliness.

And unless you have sweaty noobs of course a bra can be worn more than once.

Every couple days in normal temp (cotton bras), weirdly when I wore nylon ones they did seem to last longer with out going musty. But longer than 5 days is rank OP, it must be very musty!

DietrichandDiMaggio · 20/02/2022 10:14

It's no different to wearing a pair of jeans for 3 days IMO. I'm not as fastidious as you, and I don't sweat in my bras.

Actually I do think a bra and jeans are different, unless you are wearing skinny jeans with no knickers. However, you are talking about 3 days, not the 5-15 the OP mentioned; I think 3 wears of a lightly worn/non sweaty bra is OK, but 1-2 weeks not so much.

GreyGoose1980 · 20/02/2022 10:16

I’d change sports bras after every wear. I don’t find I need to wash other bras every day (more like every 3-4) as they don’t come up into the armpit and I don’t sweat under them. I change my other clothes daily.

Why is it unhealthy? Surely it's just personal choice whether a person wears clean clothes every day or not. It would only be unhealthy if it were problematic - as before of someone 'had' to wear clean or they felt something bad would happen or if they felt dirty for not wearing clean. You can't just decide people have unhealthy attitudes (OCD even) because they have difference preferences when it comes to wearing clothes.

GreyGoose1980 · 20/02/2022 10:19

Sorry don’t mean all other clothes (more tops pants socks leggings) as wouldn’t wash jeans or a wool jumper daily!

cheekychaplin · 20/02/2022 10:19

Oh and just to add to that, I am not saying a bra can't be worn more then once, more simply I change mine daily.

Vaxhubsandwich · 20/02/2022 10:35

I have lots of different bras in different styles to go under different clothes.
I'm 32 H so they are expensive.

I wear different ones each day, but only wash them if they smell sweaty, so some probably go 5-10 wears but not consecutively.
I'm not a sweaty person tho.

It’s unhealthy in terms of unnecessarily using finite resources and detergent. Jeans absolutely do not need to be washed after one wear, very few items do.

cheekychaplin · 20/02/2022 10:45

@MrsSkylerWhite

I'm not sure you can answer for that poster who said it was unhealthy, there was no mention of environmental issues, just OCD.

Svara · 20/02/2022 10:50

About once a week or fortnight. Washing is mostly pants, socks, and t-shirts.

Purplecatshopaholic · 20/02/2022 10:51

Have barely worn a bra since lockdown so can’t really remember…

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/02/2022 10:52

I’m not. I’m answering for myself. A poster asked why it was unhealthy and I gave my opinion.

"Surely it's just personal choice whether a person wears clean clothes every day or not."

No, because you have to consider the environment. And for people who are not the ones doing the laundry, the time of the person who does.

Gwenhwyfar · 20/02/2022 10:57

"I'm one of those people that constantly feels cold though, so I don't sweat much despite cycling 10 miles a day minimum."

I feel the cold a lot, but I do sweat. However, there's a difference between smelly sweat and non-smelly sweat.

Of course.

cheekychaplin · 20/02/2022 11:00

Not!!

Of course not

PupInAPram · 20/02/2022 11:10

I don't wear a whole clean outfit though, just clean bra, pants and socks or tights daily. I do washing once a week and have 8 of each to reflect that. I walk to work although I can drive and have a car, I recycle everything and buy clothes once in a blue moon when things need replacing. I've not been on an aeroplane for years and years. Don't be telling me that changing my bra everyday makes me an environmental nightmare or OCD. Have some flipping tolerance for people of different attitudes or sweatiness (if that's a word 😂).

StarlightLady · 20/02/2022 11:10

5 or so bras in a washload make no difference to the amount of detergent used, the amount of water used or the amount of power used.

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/02/2022 11:17

Someone washing every single item after just one wear does, though.
That’s going to add up to countless complete unnecessary washes every year.

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/02/2022 11:22

@StarlightLady

No, but it knackers the bras, so you have to buy new ones unnecessarily early.
PupInAPram · 20/02/2022 11:30

@Luredbyapomegranate my bras last for years. It's not a hot wash and I don't buy for fashion, just replacement, and no, it doesn't wear them out. I don't have a go at folk who buy clothes every 5 minutes for fun, because that's their choice. It's just not mine. You can allow people to be different to you; in fact that's what makes life interesting.
