How often to change bra????

braminger · 19/02/2022 22:47

Ok full confession.

I change my knickers, socks,t shirts and leggings daily.

Dresses,jumpers, trousers every few days.

Cardies, jeans and pjs about once a week.

Yet
I never keep track of how long my bra is on. I'd guess between 5 and 15 days yet it's as close to my skin as socks!! AIBU??

Every second day. I hand wash my bras so try to extend the wear I get out of them. Sports bras are after every wear

fussychica · 19/02/2022 23:09

Mainly wear matching sets. I have 3 or 4 pairs of knickers for every bra. I have at least half a dozen sets. Underwired and washed on 30 degree quick wash, never hand washed, totally fine in my machine.

Ozanj · 19/02/2022 23:09

Depends on the bra - sports bras get washed after every use because I sweat in them. Normal bras might get washed once every 3-4 weeks because I don’t sweat in them and will air them out after every use.

I was told by the lovely fitter at Rigby & Peller to air out bras made from natural materials more often than you wash them, as it helps them last longer and it certainly works for me. I have gorgeous, expensive 5-10 year old bras that still look brand new. daily

HippeePrincess · 19/02/2022 23:10

Every other day in winter, daily in the summer. It comes off as soon as I get home too.
5 days is pretty rank but 15 is another level of gross in my opinion. Then again so is pyjamas for a week.

Catnipdelight · 19/02/2022 23:11

I'd wash a sports bra after one wear but if I'm just wfh or not being active there's no need in washing an everyday bra until maybe the fourth or fifth wear? I mean I've probably (definitely) gone longer but I don't tend to wear the same one consecutively - mainly because I'm messy so there's always one in a random place for me to put on 😅

cheekychaplin · 19/02/2022 23:11

I always thought it was bad to wash bras often as it will damage them and they won't last long.

People say this, but in 30+ years of bra wearing and washing daily I have yet to experience it.

480Widdio · 19/02/2022 23:12

Every other day.If it is hot, everyday.

CharacterForming · 19/02/2022 23:13

Every other day unless I reckon I've sweated into it, in which case daily.

RampantIvy · 19/02/2022 23:14

They were recommending onthe radio it gets done daily as you sweat under your boobs almost as much as under your arms apparently.

I don't sweat there. I'm not well endowed enough to have underboob sweat. When I bought my bras from an independent bra shop I asked how often a bra should be changed. I was told every 2 to 3 days. I guess if you get really sweaty there you might need to change more often, but I don't sweat there because there is no skin to skin contact.

It would depend how pert they are too. Mine are large but still stand up by themselves. So I don’t sweat there unless I’m wearing a tight sports bra that forces them down.
ThoseFestiveLights · 19/02/2022 23:17

Maybe once every two or three weeks. I am really sweaty but I never sweat in that area.

They never last with washing. I’ve got a gorgeous M&S bra that I’ve washed maybe four times and it’s awfully faded and out of shape.

@Trunumber

Never ask a question about cleanliness on Mumsnet. It's the cleanest place I've ever known .

@WingingItSince1973

Change bras every other day. I wear 2 pairs of knickers a day. Always put a clean pair on for sleeping.
Ahh I sleep naked. Pjs are about 30min in morning hence the once a week change

Small and pert @Ozanj Grin
I seem to be rarity on MN though.

I don't sleep in them. About 20/30 min in a morning

@Susu49

Twice a day. Obviously.
You skank. I take mine off and burn them as soon as I’ve put them on. Anything else would be beyond disgusting.
CocoHeart · 19/02/2022 23:28

Okay...every time I cook with onions or garlic because I can proper smell it on my bra! ( Quite often to be fair so every 2 - 3 days)...food smells seem to CLING to me 😬

I always consider what I’m wearing before cooking, don’t want to get fresh bra or nice top/dress smelling of frying onions!
MonkeyPuddle · 19/02/2022 23:32

About 4-7 days usually. But I’m still wearing breastfeeding bras and I’ve not breastfed in aaagggess. So, that shows how lazy I am.

Susu49 · 19/02/2022 23:34

@BrightYellowDaffodil you must be quite sweaty. Have you considered deodorant?

gingercat02 · 19/02/2022 23:37

I have 2 work bras so 2 or 3 days each. They are plain black t shirt ones. I have nice ones for non work days. One wear and wash with the matching knickers

CocoHeart · 19/02/2022 23:37

@Arabella ...me too, I even plan meal plans around what shifts I'm working 🤣 (so I'm fresh at work 😁)

WaterBottle123 · 19/02/2022 23:38

Hourly.

Unless my bra touches a towel I've used to dry my clean body. In which case I generally burn it,

Thewindwhispers · 19/02/2022 23:39

OP we simply can’t tell you how much you sweat.

I don’t wear one but when I did I changed it every couple of days.

Yabu to wear the same thing for 15 days without washing, it probably does smell and the question is whether those around you can smell it or if the smell is trapped by other clothes.

Silversprinkles · 19/02/2022 23:41

Oh the MN Klaxon will have gone off and all the Clean Freaks will be jumping on to give you a right telling off OP Grin you really should have mentioned you don't sleep in your PJs in your Op, they will be competing for who can post the most Envy faces soon! Wink

I change my bra about every 3-4 days. Large bust, need expensive bras, wash on delicate 30c wash, don't want to wash them every day. They last ok and aren't smelly. Probably because I loathe exercise.

I don't get under boob sweat or rashes though. I would change more often if I did.

15 days must be pushing it though - surely they must be a bit whiffy by then?
