How often to change bra????

braminger · 19/02/2022 22:47

Ok full confession.

I change my knickers, socks,t shirts and leggings daily.

Dresses,jumpers, trousers every few days.

Cardies, jeans and pjs about once a week.

Yet
I never keep track of how long my bra is on. I'd guess between 5 and 15 days yet it's as close to my skin as socks!! AIBU??

I change my bra about every 4 days. Knickers, socks, tops, pyjamas - daily. Trousers, cardigans - every 3 days or so

LuckyAmy1986 · 20/02/2022 16:12

I don’t think it’s just about standards though from the sounds of it… Some people saying they stink and have deodorant marks and flakes of skin in their bras… I mean I don’t have any of that. If I did then maybe I would be inclined to wash my bra more often!!

LowlandLucky · 20/02/2022 16:17

Why do some women own so few bras? I would never just have 3 or 4 pairs of knickers so why have only 3 or 4 bras ? I change underwear once a day and if i am going out in the evening i would change then as well.

Price?

A single bra is much more expensive than a basic 7-pack of underwear.

woodhill · 20/02/2022 16:32

@RampantIvy

Same goes for any other item of clothing. It's basic standards of cleanliness/hygiene.

To wear apoair of jeans or a jumper only once before washing? No, it isn't. It is OTT and bad for the environment.

It's no wonder some mumsnetters have their washer going several times a day every day.

The clothing is such poor quality anyway

Tops, socks and knickers washed daily but trousers, skirts, jeans can be worn again

woodhill · 20/02/2022 16:34

Plus wired bras are delicate and expensive so I want them to last

mmgirish · 20/02/2022 16:39

Only wear a bra once. 2 pairs of knickers a day at least. T-shirts or tops every day. Don't wash trousers/jeans and jumpers everyday.

PinkSyCo · 20/02/2022 16:39

I’m more surprised that you only wash your pjs. I change my bra every couple of days or so. My chest doesn’t sweat like my feet do.

OverByYer · 20/02/2022 16:43

my bras are too expensive and delicate to wear fresh every day. I won about 4 that I rotate and wash about very 4-5 wears. They never smell.
I wear clean pants and tights every day.
I do the sniff test on everything else, bad for the environment and the clothes themselves to wash if not needed.

I own one black and one white and haven't worn them for over a year.
cheekychaplin · 20/02/2022 16:51

@Svara

Washing clothing more often wears it out quicker. Making new clothing has a big environmental impact.

I rarely buy new clothes though, so can I maybe offset the bra washing against my whole wardrobe consisting of very few, very old things

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 20/02/2022 16:51

Every day when I used to wear one. I would find that it got dirty under my armpits.

LuckyAmy1986 · 20/02/2022 16:54

@mmgirish you say two pairs of knickers a day at least. So it’s sometimes more. Can I just why you have to change them so much? Or it is just wanting to feel fresh and clean?

I just love a fresh pair. I know its probably bad for the environment and I do feel a smidgen of guilt about that but I make up for it in other ways.

They cost a lot more than pants to start with, pants are £5 for pack of 5. I don't wear my bra in the same place as my pants, it isn't even in contact with my armpits like a t-shirt and I usually wear those for two days. It's more comparable to jeans which I have a few pairs of but mostly wear two.

Why wear knickers for sleeping? Creating washing Grin[/quote]
I agree. I thought we needed to breathe down there! 😂

Svara · 20/02/2022 17:22

I wear pants to sleep, they are cotton. It saves washing as I then don't need to wash pyjamas as often.

Gwenhwyfar · 20/02/2022 17:24

"Tops, socks and knickers washed daily but trousers, skirts, jeans can be worn again"

If you use a good deodorant your top can be worn again as well.

Gwenhwyfar · 20/02/2022 17:26

" cardigans - every 3 days or so"

Cardigans every 3 days? I don't find that outerwear like jumpers and cardigans ever get sweaty at all. I only wash them if I get dirt or marks on them.

whitewashing · 20/02/2022 17:26

@Trunumber

Never ask a question about cleanliness on Mumsnet. It's the cleanest place I've ever known .
I find it the quite the opposite, people sniffing their clothes to see if they need washed?! Showering once or twice a week, people boasting they can’t remember the last time they changed their sheets? Using towels for two weeks before changing them? Definitely not the cleanest place in my opinion…
Gwenhwyfar · 20/02/2022 17:29

"But how does putting your bra in with the rest of the washing you are doing anyway affect climate change?"

It's more washing overall isn't it. You'll reach a full load of washing more quickly (1 person here presumably has to put a wash on every 4 days) and then you'll wash more over the year.
It won't make a huge difference though, the problem is more those people who put ALL their clothes in the wash after one wear.

Gwenhwyfar · 20/02/2022 17:30

"I find it the quite the opposite, people sniffing their clothes to see if they need washed?!"

Yes, that's being clean :)

"Showering once or twice a week"

Those of us who don't shower every day are in a small minority here and people who have a sink wash were called vile on the recent shower thread!

sairiegamp · 20/02/2022 17:32

Couple of times a year

Not for me always sweaty

I can honestly say I don't think putting a bra in a wash load has made any difference at all to the amount of washes I would do.
