How often to change bra????

braminger · 19/02/2022 22:47

Ok full confession.

I change my knickers, socks,t shirts and leggings daily.

Dresses,jumpers, trousers every few days.

Cardies, jeans and pjs about once a week.

Yet
I never keep track of how long my bra is on. I'd guess between 5 and 15 days yet it's as close to my skin as socks!! AIBU??

Changed every other day

Gonnagetgoing · 20/02/2022 07:35

My underarms don’t tend to smell that much (age?) so I don’t use deodorant etc. Under boobs (30GG) they do sweat throughout depending on activity and clothes worn.

Gonnagetgoing · 20/02/2022 07:37

If the bras definitely smelled of sweat then I’d change them more but I don’t think they even got that bad in 20s. I wore deodorant antiperspirant in teens, 20s up to mid 30s I think.

Mylittlepixie · 20/02/2022 07:39

My grandma taught me to buy 2 underwears for every bra, because bras can be worn 2 days.

ElinoristhenewEnid · 20/02/2022 07:50

@TheBitterBoy me too 1 bra to 3 pairs of knickers - so 3 days wear per bra!

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 20/02/2022 07:55

Daily but I wear sports bras and work outdoors in a job where I get sweaty so it's necessary.

FangsForTheMemory · 20/02/2022 08:37

Every 2-3 days.

marykitty · 20/02/2022 08:44

While breastfeeding i change it daily and wash it.
If not breastfeeding i rotate 3 of them for a while based on which colors i am wearing and then wash all of them once a week.

StarlightLady · 20/02/2022 08:52

@Gonnagetgoing - l don’t think a delicates cycle is the same as handwashing, but it works for me with a delicates bag. Life is too short to handwash bras.

I do most of my washing on a delicates wash though. It’s kinder to the clothes. It’s only things like towels, gardening jeans or something with a nasty “food blob” that gets the more vigorous treatment.

Me too!

I read it in some chick-lit book about 15 years ago where the main character did this and have done it myself ever since!

@Gwenhwyfar

"Do the people who don't change their bra apply the same rule to other clothes?"

Yes. I do not change any clothes unless they are dirty as it would be wasteful.
Knickers, socks and tights are dirty after one wear. Tops get a sniff, but definitely don't need washing after just one wear unless in a heat wave. Clothes only washed if dirty.
The exception are my slippers. They are dirty, but I can't wash them because the machine ruined my last pairs. I'd be grateful for suggestions.

So glad someone has finally said this 😃 I wear t-shirts three or four times before I wash them, leggings at least a couple of times (unless they get dirty or weathers really hot). I always visually inspect and sniff my clothes before putting them on, and if they smell they go in the wash. Obviously in summer things get less wear before they're washed. Bras get changed every 3 or 4 days, although I've definitely gone a week of more before. I'm one of those people that constantly feels cold though, so I don't sweat much despite cycling 10 miles a day minimum. Now I understand why some mums complain that they're constantly drowning in laundry!
cushioncovers · 20/02/2022 08:58

Shower daily and have an office job so have a fresh bra on a Monday and wear it until Friday then put it in the wash. Take it off as soon as I'm home though and wear the soft bralets. Also wear bralets on a weekend.

germsandcoffee · 20/02/2022 09:01

I just throw everything in the washer daily including bras because they get covered in deodorant 🤷‍♀️

Monty27 · 20/02/2022 09:02

Clean socks and knickers every day. Jeans and tops get a couple of wears if I haven't spilled something over them or forgot myself and knelt down weeding in the garden which is often the case. Bra gets changed every few days if I haven't sweated whilst wearing it. 4 days tops round about I think. It's a natural instinct to me when I want a fresh one.

RampantIvy · 20/02/2022 09:04

Daily. It’s underwear.

It's not the same as knickers or socks though because unless you are huge there is no sweat or bodily secretions.

The people who must wear all their clothes only once before washing must either be very sweaty, do a dirty job or have an unhealthy attitude about cleanliness (OCD?)

blanketyblanked · 20/02/2022 09:05

Every time I leave the house, so multiple times daily...

ThinWomansBrain · 20/02/2022 09:06

oh at least three bras in as many days as I can use a chicken for new meals.

LuckyAmy1986 · 20/02/2022 09:09

Me too. I couldn't wear one two days running. Only ever done it in emergencies and then tried to sponge it down first!

Oh god ladies, if you are ever in an EMERGENCY situation where you have to wear your bra TWO Envy Envy days in a row, for the love of god make sure you at least try and SPONGE IT DOWN first!!!!

Another top tip is to switch your flannel for a scouring pad, to ensure you have absolutely no dead skin cells or any healthy natural bacteria on your body.
Allelbowsandtoes · 20/02/2022 09:12

Although I tend to just bathe in bleach, as its far easier on the body 😎

racquel86 · 20/02/2022 09:31

Oh what a question - I have had a few debates about this in my time 🤣
I change mine daily and I hate not to tbh, on the very odd occasion maybe more than once if it has passed the 'sniff' test.
I think it's very dependent on how you feel, how much you sweat, and what size you are. My old housemate years ago couldn't believe I changed mine everyday as she wore hers 2/3 days in a row - she also spent at least £30 on a bra as she was very lucky in the size department 🙌🏻 so didn't have many bras that were affordable and a comfy fit. I on the other hand have LOADS of bras - they cost between £3-£7 each as I am not so lucky size wise and get most my bras from primark..... Asda when I feel like being a bit fancy 🤣

1forward2back · 20/02/2022 09:32

Daily. Pre kids I was more like you. 2-4 days. Now it’s gross if not changed daily.

Musmerian · 20/02/2022 09:33

My bras cost £100 per pop and are hand washed. I tend to alternate them but wash them quite rarely. The tend to smell of my perfume.

cheekychaplin · 20/02/2022 09:34

Does choosing to wear clean every day really mean an 'unhealthy attitude (OCD)'? Maybe it's just personal preference. I wear a clean bra every day but I don't think I have an unhealthy attitude and I absolutely don't have OCD. I just choose a clean bra. It makes no odds to me what anyone else does and I don't have any strange 'omg I have to wear clean' thoughts, it's just a thing that I do. An unhealthy attitude would be someone who felt they needed to wear a clean bra or something bad might happen, or someone who felt dirty if they didn't wear clean. I just don't feel anything at all.

firstimemamma · 20/02/2022 09:37

2-3 wears for a bra. I only change it daily if it's a heatwave.
