I''m SW and I've gone to work, but I left the house at 5am so it was really calm. I plan on staying in the office until 3pm at the earliest to avoid the storm peak.

I think you've done the right thing if you're still at home and didn't leave the house at the crack of dawn. I think that was the only safe time to go to work. Any later and you'd risk being out when the high winds hit.

Somemoremilkplease · 18/02/2022 07:42

I’m in South Devon and it’s not that bad here, there’s a bit of wind but nothing terrible. Is it supposed to get worse as the morning goes on? My employer hasn’t contacted me yet so not sure if I’m going to work or not. DDs school is shut though

Sparklingbrook · 18/02/2022 07:43

It’s not reached Worcestershire yet.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 18/02/2022 07:43

South coast of Cornwall here and it's windy but we've definitely had worse this year.

FurryGrowler · 18/02/2022 07:43

Wind of picking up here where I am in Surrey

Bagelsandbrie · 18/02/2022 07:43

I think it’s not really due to hit until mid morning in most places.

Mommabear20 · 18/02/2022 07:44

No wind at all where I am up north! Trees aren't moving at all!

Cstring · 18/02/2022 07:46

Just thinking the same thing. I’m in the North and cancelled a day out in Manchester due to warnings not to travel and train cancellations. It’s still calm with birds tweeting and cooing outside my window.

GastroNuisance · 18/02/2022 07:46

Just walked dog in Hampshire. It's a bit blustery but all the bins are still in place. School is shut so expecting things to get going soon.

Akite · 18/02/2022 07:46

Also in Somerset and it's not due here till 10 ish. Don't let the calm start fool you, you are doing the right thing!

ohhooh · 18/02/2022 07:48

I'm in the north (rural but close to the coast) and last night was really stormy, high winds and pouring rain! Now seems a bit calmer, but we're expecting high winds from mid morning again I think.

spacehardware · 18/02/2022 07:48

I'm in Somerset too, night was calm and windier now but we've had worse weather several times this winter. Hopefully it won't be as bad as they fear?

I will be regretting typing that later this morning I expect!

Thedogshow · 18/02/2022 07:48

Also in one of the places named above. It’s windy but quite normal. Definitely not worth shutting the schools for so far.

seperatedmum · 18/02/2022 07:48

nothing in East Herts, I read 3am to 7am? I can hear a slight breeze but also cars on the road. I too have canceled going into London with children

FourChimneys · 18/02/2022 07:48

It is picking up really quickly here. Half an hour ago it was fairly calm, now there is debris blowing down the road.

CourtRand · 18/02/2022 07:49

Yeah there's nothing round me in London. Barely even windy right now. Although as someone left without power, a place to stay and a flooded car in Beast from the East I've got my beady eyes on the sky 👀👀

FilthyforFirth · 18/02/2022 07:49

I was thinking the same thing! Im Hampshire but seems pretty calm so far..

inappropriateraspberry · 18/02/2022 07:50

In Cornwall. Just starting to pick up now, but was breezy overnight. I'm expecting it to build up from now, and think it will work up to Somerset later this morning.

GirlInACountrySong · 18/02/2022 07:50

Typical media over hyping things

And a storm warning is just that, a warning. But people seem to be enjoying the drama and more reasons to stay at home

BABAHOTEL · 18/02/2022 07:50

Windy here South London/Surrey borders. Apparently the postmen aren't going out this morning. It's due to get worse as the day goes on.

WhereTheWildlingsLive · 18/02/2022 07:51

I'm in North Cornwall right on the coast and it's windy AF here 😬 just been out to check the pegs on our trampoline and put a couple more in... Bandung the letterbox now! Quite alarming. The worst forecast was for this area though.

RLOU30 · 18/02/2022 07:52

@FourChimneys
What area are you ?

Shall we wait until later in the day before we make that assumption?
imamumgetmeoutofhere · 18/02/2022 07:52

I'm SW (Jurassic coast). Both my children's schools are shut. My DH is also off on annual leave. I've got to go to work as I'm NHS. Fairly windy walking to the bus today, could easily take a frail or elderly person off their feet but where I'm more chunky and can brace myself I've been ok. Winds are set to increase another 25pmh though so won't want to go out then Confused

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 18/02/2022 07:52

West Wiltshire and it’s really picking up.

Have no choice but to walk to work but will be at work for the next 25 hours so I’m indoors.

Might say a quick goodbye to my fence before I go. He’s old. I doubt he’ll survive this.
