It isn't meant to hit us fully in Dorset until 9am

daisypond · 18/02/2022 07:54

I’m in a red zone. Everyone going to work as normal. It’s not very windy - yet.

Thank god I'll be in work by then. Already very breezy down here on Jurassic coast Confused
Mollysocks · 18/02/2022 07:54

Dorset - nothing here either, really calm Confused

alltheseasons · 18/02/2022 07:54

@Sparklingbrook

It’s not reached Worcestershire yet.
We are in Worcs, My DH has been up since 5 staring out the window worrying unnecessarily about the bins flying away 😂 barely a breeze!
Theeyeballsinthesky · 18/02/2022 07:54

North Somerset and a bit windy but definitely had worse

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/02/2022 07:55

Our binmen are a hardy lot and have been round as normal. Quite breezy here in London at the moment. Wind is stronger than it was when we woke up a couple of hours ago.

@BABAHOTEL

No. We are talking about the here and now

Mollysocks · 18/02/2022 07:56

@TheLightSideOfTheMoon

West Wiltshire and it’s really picking up.

Have no choice but to walk to work but will be at work for the next 25 hours so I’m indoors.

Might say a quick goodbye to my fence before I go. He’s old. I doubt he’ll survive this.

😂 I’ve brought two of my more fragile potted plants inside just in case ☺️

emmathedilemma · 18/02/2022 07:57

Heavy rain and a bit of sleet in Edinburgh but the wind is calmer than it's been for most of the week! Think we're missing the worst of this one.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/02/2022 07:58

As we haven't yet learned to teleport, the Met Office (not the media) has no choice but to put out storm warnings and point out that if you set off in the morning when it's still fairly normal weather you might find yourself in difficulties later when it looks as it won't be.

They can't win, of course. If the storm they forecast doesn't materialise they will be accused of scaremongering. If there is a storm and they hadn't issued warnings. they'd be blamed for that too. I still remember the great storm of 1987 and Michael Fish on the BBC a few hours before it hit saying nothing to worry about. He never lived it down.

Youronlylimitisyourmind · 18/02/2022 07:59

Swansea here, windy but nothing crazy 🧐 anyone know what time it is due to hit South Wales?

CJay81 · 18/02/2022 07:59

Mid Wales(10 miles from coast) rather windy but expected worse, although Worst is supposed to be 11-2.

But surely when it was predicted for mid morning (here at least) we should wait to se if that's right? Maybe they've misjudged by a few hours?

londonrach · 18/02/2022 08:00

Midlands nothing here ..I'm doing home visits at the peak so not looking forward to it

TooWeirdToLiveTooRareToDie · 18/02/2022 08:00

It’s supposed to be the peak for us right now and for the next two hours. BBC weather says it’s blowing 70mph winds and whilst I can hear it’s windy outside, I’d describe it as a tad blustery at the moment. The hedges are barely stirring.

The cats were mightily pissed off that I’d battened down the cat flap for this and had pulled off the knob and broke free by the time I got up this morning!

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 18/02/2022 08:01

This reminds me of when I woke on my due date telling my DP, still no baby!

drpet49 · 18/02/2022 08:02

I’m currently staying in Wiltshire- nothing here just a bit windy.

SilverHairedCat · 18/02/2022 08:02

I'm in Cornwall, local reading is currently 80mph and rising fast. It's on the way!

Where is this storm then?
HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 18/02/2022 08:03

Tbf I saw a poster say it's quiet where they are (same area as me) but I've lost fence panels already and my bins have fucked off half way down the road.

Summerofcontent · 18/02/2022 08:04

@GirlInACountrySong

Typical media over hyping things

And a storm warning is just that, a warning. But people seem to be enjoying the drama and more reasons to stay at home

The media don't issue weather warnings, the met office do
HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 18/02/2022 08:04

It's due to pick up later according to the reports, I don't think we can write this off at 8am

Where is this storm then?
Goawayangryman · 18/02/2022 08:05

Coastal Hampshire here. I can't hear much wind but the dog is unusually watchful!

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 18/02/2022 08:05

@SilverHairedCat where did you get that?

Apparently the wind direction is going to swing round later and batter the areas that are more sheltered right now.

Feels like it's picked up just since I posted earlier.

SilverHairedCat · 18/02/2022 08:06
