Never heard of the word which is the answer to Wordle today. Anyone else the same?

Got it in second guess

Peridot1 · 16/02/2022 13:32

I’d heard of it but I can’t say it’s a word I’ve ever used. I know what it is.

CraftyGin · 16/02/2022 13:33

It's more common in America, and if you are into DIY.

AchillesPoirot · 16/02/2022 13:33

Got it 3rd guess.

fairlygoodmother · 16/02/2022 13:33

It’s very American. I know it because I live in the US but I don’t think it’s a well known word in the UK.

dun1urkin · 16/02/2022 13:34

I got it in 3
At least it wasn’t one where knowledge American spellings were required Grin

I hadn't heard of it either.

catgirl1976 · 16/02/2022 13:35

I only just got it today

It's harder since the NYT took over I think

Sexnotgender · 16/02/2022 13:35

Got it in 4. It’s a word I recognise.

dun1urkin · 16/02/2022 13:35

Just read previous comments, I had no idea it was more common in America than the UK

CorrBlimeyGG · 16/02/2022 13:36

You need to do more DIY? Nothing more satisfying than a good ***ing.

randomsabreuse · 16/02/2022 13:37

It was the bane of my life decorating, but I first learned it in a historical naval fiction context...

fruitpastille · 16/02/2022 13:37

I put it in feeling a bit unsure what it was but thinking I'd vaguely heard the term. Also I knew the first and last letter for definite and 2 of the middle letters so there wasn't anything else it could be! I did google it afterwards to be sure about the meaning.

harriethoyle · 16/02/2022 13:38

Yes I had to guess it OP having got the first four letters quite quickly! Maybe it's another US thing like spelling of humor...

pateu · 16/02/2022 13:38

I got it by fluke but i've seen it at homebase etc

FunnyInjury · 16/02/2022 13:38

There has been a glitch in the wordle matrix 🤣

My word yesterday was a greek word which I only got by guessing all the possible (non word) permutations I had left with letters left until I got the answer! I had 4 correct letters and still didn’t know what the last letter was until I got to that last letter on qwerty keypad!

However I looked on twitter last night and other people had a different word (weird)

So today, with one correct letter from my starting word, I guessed at yesterdays ‘other’ word and it’s correct so I got it in 2 (personal best 🤣)

Cap89 · 16/02/2022 13:39

@ILoveAllRainbowsx I think everyone else is trying to avoid saying the word in case of spoilers!

Pottedpalm · 16/02/2022 13:39

I’m familiar with the word. I do think it has got harder lately though; double letters, repeated letters, American spellings…

AlDanvers · 16/02/2022 13:39

I have heard of it and knew its used in DIY. I wouldn't have been able to tell you what, exactly, it was.

I got it in 3 today

pateu · 16/02/2022 13:40

there was an american spelling not that long ago. annoying

rifling · 16/02/2022 13:40

I knew it from ships rather than DIY.

Angrymum22 · 16/02/2022 13:40

My family were shipbuilders so familiar word.

EsmeSusanOgg · 16/02/2022 13:40

It's used in boats :)

fizzyfood · 16/02/2022 13:40

Had to look up its meaning after getting it on my last guess!
