Never heard of the word which is the answer to Wordle today. Anyone else the same?

Heard of it but only had a vague idea of what it meant (I got it though!)

Bluebubbletrouble · 16/02/2022 13:41

My DP is a tradesman, I was excited to ring him and tell him he would know today's word!
My life is so cool these days Grin

BestestBrownies · 16/02/2022 13:41

It’s certainly more widely used in the US, but I have heard of it and knew the meaning. Hence getting it in 3

Wordle is definitely using more difficult/obscure words since the NYT takeover, but I like that as it’s more of a challenge now.

pateu · 16/02/2022 13:42

how is it pronounced, any decorators i've had pronounce it like it has a ch

Akite · 16/02/2022 13:42

I know it and it didn't seem to be an unusual word to me. I've done quite a bit of diy though. I wouldn't have said it was American at all.

luckylavender · 16/02/2022 13:42

I didn't know it either. And I failed.

SpeckledlyHen · 16/02/2022 13:42

I got it in 3 but more of a sensible logic guess rather than knowing the word well and using it

ODFOx · 16/02/2022 13:42

I got it in 3, which is rare for me. My second attempt had letters 2-5 all correct, so a bit of luck there, and it was 50/50 that I could have guessed it in 2!

pollyhemlock · 16/02/2022 13:44

I am familiar with it from reading naval historical fiction by people like Patrick O’Brian and CS Forester. Always knew it would come in useful! Got it in 5.

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 16/02/2022 13:45

Just managed to get it 😳

RitaFires · 16/02/2022 13:45

I got it in 3 but I do a lot of DIY and read American DIY advice online.

Georgiesgirl · 16/02/2022 13:46

Decorator here. It's pretty commonly used in the Uk and is not the same thing as sealant

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 16/02/2022 13:46
@ILoveAllRainbowsx I think everyone else is trying to avoid saying the word in case of spoilers!
Sorry yes I just realised that.

But I would have thought that the title is quite clear and most people would read the title first.

I didn't realise that the OP hadn't said the word

watcherintherye · 16/02/2022 13:46

I did it out of curiosity after reading the thread title, but not the thread, in case of spoilers! I knew the word, as in I’ve heard it and must have seen it written down, because I knew how to spell it, but I didn’t know the meaning till I read this thread afterwards.

Lockheart · 16/02/2022 13:47

I know it and I'm not much of a DIYer, but I do read a lot. Reading is excellent for the vocabulary!

1984Winston · 16/02/2022 13:48

First time I haven't got it, have never heard of that word

Lordamighty · 16/02/2022 13:49

Every painter & decorator in the UK knows that word, plenty of DIYers too.

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 16/02/2022 13:50

Second time playing it today after seeing a thread on here about it yesterday. Got it in 4 but I also do a fair bit of decorating.

Aprilx · 16/02/2022 13:51

I didn’t get it either.

AliasGrape · 16/02/2022 13:52

I knew it because we had to use some very recently, and there's an episode of new girl that has a drawn out gag playing on the word which for some reason I remember really clearly (the reason is I really fancied Nick if I'm being honest)

Still took me 5 goes

Yesterday took me 6 and I got the 'easier' word of the two

Fleurty · 16/02/2022 13:52

@ILoveAllRainbowsx
A. Not cool to actually give the word away when everyone else is talking around it
B. The thing you say we call it in the UK is a completely different product.

I can't believe people haven't heard of this word! I thought it was an easy one compared to recent ones.

Sgtmajormummy · 16/02/2022 13:53

I always feel swindled when it’s a more American than British word. It sends me off into completely bizarre territory.
Today I tried kayak, kapok…

They may be talking about a completely different thing, then!
pateu · 16/02/2022 13:57

@watcherintherye I just googled it, weird 😭

pateu · 16/02/2022 13:57

that was meant to be a 😆
