Never heard of the word which is the answer to Wordle today. Anyone else the same?

I wouldn't say it was an Americanism. I found today's quite easy compared to some of them!

popcorndiva · 16/02/2022 14:25

Yeah if you have ever done DIY you know the word.

Rosehugger · 16/02/2022 14:25

You need to clear your cache to get the proper Wordle. If you close the tab it doesn't lose your results.

I knew today's word because of going to the Isle of Wight quite often- it's part of a nick name for people who were born and brought up there.

treesandweeds · 16/02/2022 14:26

I got it in five, but I guessed it. I've never heard of wordle before yesterday when it had the glitch. Is there a way you are meant to start with a certain type of word for your first guess? I just started with a word that had no repeats of letters, is that the right kind of idea?

highlighta · 16/02/2022 14:28

I got it in 4 today and do know the word. I also think they are getting more difficult as I was getting in 2 or 3. These days its more like 4 or 5 but yesterday was 6.....

I didn't know the Lewdle word today though. Got that in 6 too. Bloody nerd I am clearly. I had a good laugh at the definition though.

Pamparam · 16/02/2022 14:28

I had heard of it before anyway, but also used the product during recent building work and the builders also pronounced it with a 'ch'!

amusedbush · 16/02/2022 14:30

@ScottChegg

I knew the word. My DH maintains that, if you have that and gaffer tape then you can fix anything.😂
Sounds like my dad. I sent him this flowchart Grin

@FunnyInjury

There has been a glitch in the wordle matrix 🤣

My word yesterday was a greek word which I only got by guessing all the possible (non word) permutations I had left with letters left until I got the answer! I had 4 correct letters and still didn’t know what the last letter was until I got to that last letter on qwerty keypad!

However I looked on twitter last night and other people had a different word (weird)

So today, with one correct letter from my starting word, I guessed at yesterdays ‘other’ word and it’s correct so I got it in 2 (personal best 🤣)

Same here!
NigellaAwesome · 16/02/2022 14:33

I use it all the time. Got it in 4

FatFilledTrottyPuss · 16/02/2022 14:33

I looked over DHs shoulder this morning as he was trying the third row and guessed it. He was not happy with for for spoilering it for him Blush
I do all the diy in our house obviously Smile

BMW6 · 16/02/2022 14:34

I got it 2 as my starter word was sauce and I am an old hand at decorating

Totally normal word that I used just yesterday... I am slightly older though, I think the other word for this may be more modern and more likely to be used by younger people?

takingmytimeonmyride · 16/02/2022 14:37

I knew it as I bought some last week. Who knew it would come in handy for Wordle as well as DIY.

impossible · 16/02/2022 14:37

I got it in three.

It looked like a word so I put it in - of course if it hadn't been a word I wouldn't have been able to submit it. (I did then have to look it up.)

DimplesToadfoot · 16/02/2022 14:38

I got it in 3, I love my DIY and decorating though, I'd have never said it was an American word either :-/

drspouse · 16/02/2022 14:39

As DH said, just look in the basement.

elfycat · 16/02/2022 14:39

Got it in 3, but I'm familiar with the word

averylongtimeago · 16/02/2022 14:42

I wouldn't have thought it was a particularly American word- in common use in DIY and in boat building...
Got it in 4.

CannibalQueen · 16/02/2022 14:42

I thought it was a british word too. It's to do with DIY ing, isn't it? Or boats.

CannibalQueen · 16/02/2022 14:44

Look, Wordle is just a test of vocabulary and memory. If you don't know the word, then hey, you've learned something!

amymel2016 · 16/02/2022 14:44

I only got it because of the amount of DIY we do and having an old house we’ve used a lot of the stuff!

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 16/02/2022 14:45

I got it in 4, but I work at a plumbing company so see it a lot!

Donson · 16/02/2022 14:49

3rd guess!

Getoff · 16/02/2022 14:50

I thought of it at second guess, but tried something else, after which it was obvious I should have gone with it.

I watched a lot of sailing videos on Youtube during lockdown, so I have heard the word used often by non-UK sailors fixing their boats.

In the UK we usually use a different word, though I think that word is printed on some products we use.
