Never heard of the word which is the answer to Wordle today. Anyone else the same?

I'm neither a painter nor a decorator and I've not spent anything other than a fortnight or the odd weekend in the US, but I've still heard of today's word.

pateu · 16/02/2022 13:58

Apparently it's pronounced differently in the US?

GreggsDoVitalWork · 16/02/2022 14:02

I used it just last week on some skirting boards. Very common word in DIY. Still took me five lines 🤣

UnsuitableHat · 16/02/2022 14:02

I got it in 6 - never heard of it! Perhaps should do a bit more DIY.

RitaFires · 16/02/2022 14:02

@AliasGrape

I knew it because we had to use some very recently, and there's an episode of new girl that has a drawn out gag playing on the word which for some reason I remember really clearly (the reason is I really fancied Nick if I'm being honest)

Still took me 5 goes

Yesterday took me 6 and I got the 'easier' word of the two

I nearly put in a link to the New Girl scene but I didn't want to spoil anything for people who haven't done wordle yet today. It's a very memorable scene.
Flexitarian · 16/02/2022 14:04

I don’t think it’s American - it’s what decorators use. I got it in 4.

amusedbush · 16/02/2022 14:05

I got it in 3. I hate using it but make a point of saying the word a LOT when doing DIY because it sounds rude and makes me laugh Grin

Depends if you're into DIY I think!
LilacPaisley · 16/02/2022 14:06

I recognise the word as I read a fair bit. Don't think I've ever used it though. I wouldn't have said it was particularly Americans who use it. I got it in 5

FourBookPiles · 16/02/2022 14:06

I got it on the last attempt but only because it was the only thing that sounded like it might be a word that fitted the gap. I hadn’t heard of it previously.

nothingpunny · 16/02/2022 14:12

I know what it is and got it on the third guess but my 22 year old daughter had no clue what it was other than guessing it was something to do with badgers Grin

oviraptor21 · 16/02/2022 14:12

@Sgtmajormummy

I always feel swindled when it’s a more American than British word. It sends me off into completely bizarre territory. Today I tried kayak, kapok…
This makes it seem like you have a different word to the rest of us.

And another PP saying that used the "other" word from yesterday (or was it two days ago?). It wasn't that either.

Is something weird going on.

I knew the word, but not what it meant.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 16/02/2022 14:13

I hear it all the time at work but it still took me 4!

SamphiretheStickerist · 16/02/2022 14:14

I took 4 as I went more snooker than plumbing first!

Hey ho!

Darkstar4855 · 16/02/2022 14:15

@oviraptor21 there are two different words depending on whether you are still on the original website or the new NYT one.

DaveGrohl · 16/02/2022 14:16

My 9 year old got it before me as he tends to put in random combinations - he didn’t know what it meant!

MrsTerryPratchett · 16/02/2022 14:17

Can someone PM me the word? I don't play but I'm curious.

Thesearmsofmine · 16/02/2022 14:18

I got it in 4, I recognise the word but have never used it!

ButtercupOfFlorin · 16/02/2022 14:18

It’s something you fill holes in the wall in with isn’t it?

TressiliansStone · 16/02/2022 14:19

Yep, was using some last week. Grin

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 16/02/2022 14:20

I got the second one from yesterday too! Very strange.

bluechameleon · 16/02/2022 14:22

I definitely had a different word to all of you! My word was nothing to do with ships and was a totally normal word. Like a pp, I had an obscure Greek word yesterday. What's going on?!

Woeismethischristmas · 16/02/2022 14:23

It’s familiar to me from decorating. I wouldn’t of thought it was more American.

Motorcyclemptiness · 16/02/2022 14:23

me too -yesterday got in in two, today in four. have heard of today's word tho would not call it common UK usage...

ScottChegg · 16/02/2022 14:24

I knew the word. My DH maintains that, if you have that and gaffer tape then you can fix anything.😂
